Audulus seems to be the biggest draw to seats on the fence.
I'll just say that although not for everyone, what you get for the sale price is pretty damn crazy (including all the free modules and user patches from the forum)

  • Audulus patches from the forum: https://objects.dreamhost.com/audulus/Audulus 3 Forum Patch Collection - 3-21-16.zip

A zip of everything from 2016, all kids of stuff. Unzip in AudioShare, longpress each patch from that folder and it will "open in" audulus

It's true the inapp tutorial pages are in written form (I don't mind but some do)
    Here's disccords "Let's play" http://forum.audulus.com/discussion/916/discchord039s-30-minute-let039s-play-breakdown-of-audulus

That link is from the Audulus forum "tutorials" page, where you will find several video links, including biminiroads "2 minute" video series.

Hmmm. Here's a question. If you've noodled with Audulus 2 a little but been a bit brain-frozen is it a better bet (at this price :)) to go ahead and get three and thus make some big leap forward OR is it more likely that if you can't manage 2 you should forget about 3? At least for now.....

I've taken the bullet for the merry band of fence-sitters, and bought Audulus 3. No nasty surprises so far, and I was able to open a preset and smash it into something horrible sounding, which was my intention after all.

CPU looked a bit high on my SE, but fast and smooth.

Now off to see if I can get some more presets/projects, as you don't get many with the thing

I didn't find the "well thought out built in tutorial" to be very good at all. Unless I'm missing something. All there is are 3 screens you can scroll around that sort of define some things, but use terms that assume you know more. The devs claim that even if you know nothing about sound synthesis at all, you'll be building your own after the tutorial.. is complete BS. What little is offered in the way of tutorial within the app seems very thin and slightly cryptic.

Getting a little better results from the videos on the Audulus site, but I like the ones where he doesn't talk at all. He only jitters around the screen throwing out terms to show off how smart he is. Not very useful for a beginner.

With the videos I can kind of stumble my way some, but have kind of hit a brick wall.

I'm just going to twiddle with a few presets to start with.

yeah you need to visit the forum where there are quite a few patches. It's a bit of a long winded way of getting new patches though. I hope they add a repository to the forum where you can connect to it in the app eventually.

Ah, I was hoping it would be fairly straightforward to grab some examples.

Bit disappointed with the small number of demos provided.

Getting patches off the forum is pretty easy... just click and "open in/copy to" Audulus 3. I've found some that I like and fairly straight forward.

Haven't decided if I'll get my $15 worth or not. Some of the patches are cool enough and completely tweakable, that even if I don't get the hang of building something complex myself, I figure there are enough ready-made ones to make it nearly worth while.

It's like Lemur for me. I bought it on-sale too. I haven't spent enough time to build anything complex, but there were enough ready-made controller projects that made it worth the expense. I also learned enough to quickly build my own basic controllers when I have a new app and just want to control a few things.

So far, feeling kinda the same about Audulus 3, but I'd like to not have to solely rely on other's work and be able to build my own.

Yeah me too - but I'm impatient to get stuck in! Good to hear it's easy to grab the forum patches.

granted i literally have spent 15 minutes with it, but the phasemaker sounds "out of the box" seem pretty thin and dinky to me.

i like to be slightly scared or a little bit jarred by a synth when i am initially exploring a synth's presets (shoom, sunrizer, cyclops, animoog, mitosynth, etc) and i was a bit letdown by all the ravings about phasemaker. i haven't taken the time to delve yet, though. and i 10000 percent trust the opinions of this incredible forum.

i will never forget getting my mind absolutely blown the first time i hooked up animoog to my loudspeakers. i felt like alladin (sane) letting the genie out of the bottle.

Your issue is not with Phasemaker, but the FM synthesis method of making digital sound. Try Wikipedia for more info. I don't care for the sounds either, but I appreciate the theories behind it and Phasemaker's great for learning. Run it through some effects (FM is good for this, as it doesn't get as muddy) and you might get to a good place.

    Thanks for the tip!

The 2 minute videos are good. Tim's is good too.. but it feels like he's not all that comfy in the app either. I've only watched about half if his though.

I'm not giving up... just getting started. And, I've gone from knowing nothing to building something basic that works. And, I've used the pre-built stuff with my own sound pumping through via AUM with more external FX added... so I'm definitely down with it... just getting a little frustrated to have gone far enough to get my feet wet... then slamming into a brick wall of personal ignorance.

My original hope what that it would be a fun sonic erector set that I might learn something from. The design is elegant for sure, as well as universal. And there are enough built patches that are completely useful with your own stuff I think.

Just bought a boxed card game gift about exploding cats that was $20. So, for $15 this sonic erector set game that might even yield useful, custom patches, and a bit more knowledge without any cats being harmed... seems like a bargain. ;)

I'm only on the fence about 3 last sale items.

Still interested in ARP Odyssei, but it's sale has been extended until Jan. 5th so no rush on that one.

Geoshred looks fun, but as I'm not really a "player"... I'm thinking it would be a waste on me. And I find Thumbjam mostly suffices plenty, and now with TC-Data, I can't imagine Geoshred getting me any further down the road. Hell, if lil' ol' Bebot had midi control, it'd pretty much be all I needed. :)

Thinking about the RF-1 and RP-1 apps too while on sale.. but it seems redundant with apedelay, dedalus, all the AUFX delays and reverbs, etc. Plus, for the straight forward stuff it seems like the Convolution Reverb and PSP Stereo delay plugins in Auria Pro have the straight forward stuff covered as well. Then there's the excellent subtle delays I've got in my AudioMastering app, and the dynamics in Finaltouch are nice too. Throw in DFX and Echo Pad, and it's hard to see how RF-1 and RP-1 wouldn't be complete overkill. Yet, when I listen to those sample demo recordings on the RF-1/RP-1 web site... they do sound awfully sweet.

A couple quick basic tips to start (though you likely already know this from having a previous version):

    1. When you open up a patch or module to check out and tinker with, there's a little lock at the bottom that's default is unlocked. If you're just poking around to see what does what, etc. just lock that because there's not a reset button if you accidentally start deleting things.

    2. There's a double arrow icon by the lock icon at bottom left I think. That opens a builtin keyboard. That comes in handy when you load up an alien patch and aren't sure what it does exactly, sometimes if you open that keyboard and press some keys, you'll quickly find the alien patch is really a nice little instrument patch. Takes a little quess work out. :)

Alright, snagged both RF-1 and RP-1... haven't played with them yet. Used the rational/excuse that many of the delay/reverb fx I listed as already having installed, were iPad only. Now I think I'm officially done with this madness... unless another Launchpad pack or 2 tickles my fancy before the sale is over. ;)

sorry to bug you with this but for the good of the community, can you give some brief comments on the strengths of the new fx apps and the main sonic differences if any, between them and your others? I think I have enough delays and reverbs but am always curious and tempted by new ones.

@Redo1 I'm off waking/exercise and then off with the wife to run errands... so, I don't think I'll be able to compare & contrast before the sale is over.

However, I did load up a couple channels in AUM with launchpad running on one and blocs wave on the other (just to get something with drums and such going quickly for a test)

First impression was that I was very pleasantly surprised. The sound is very good. I tried some of the presets and several get way out there. That's the surprising part. I was expecting a bit boring utility, but there's plenty of trippy in these too.

Could I have got to the same place with what I already have? That I'm not certain of. What I can say from the very quick test I did, is that I was able to make it very interesting quickly and the sound was clean without a bunch of muddy stuff. The controls worked well and very responsive.

My final thought from this brief first impression, is that as AUs these are gonna be insanely fun to stack up on stuff.

Thumbs up for both from me. :)

  • Happily jumped on Vocalive and Amplitube Acoustic today. In my quest to replace a TC Helicon Voicelive pedal with my iPad, I've needed loopers and fx galore, but tomorrow is our first band practice completely battery powered, so we will see how it all stacks up.

Like you I'm in no rush on the KORG stuff (they have plenty of my money already), yet Odyssei does look good :) Also tempted by the new Gadgets. In the short term I'm thinking about midiSequencer, Aftertouch, and TC-11. I wonder if TC-Data will follow in the footsteps of TC-11 and get the universal treatment? Being able to control all these synths with it from an iPhone would be awesome!

I got confirmation from the dev via twitter that TC-Data was going universal very soon and would also have multi-panes and split screen like TC-11 (which I have and love). :)

Thought about midisequencer mostly for iPhone5. Just the lite version, but the controls are so very tiny that it was barely useable for me. For iPad sequencing I have Genome and like it.

thanks. hmm, I want, but......my ipad is so cluttered. hmm

I'm back home now. If you're still trying to decide, I'll have another play with these and see if I can offer any better feedback.

I just bought rf-1. Will give it a go now. Thanks.

What else have you got recently that impressed you? Seems we have similar interests.

Honestly I haven't had much time to spend with a particular app, but so far the synth in Moebius Lab surprised me. That app is a bit of a monster. I think I'm now at the point where I have everything I need and most of what I want, so I'm going to rest my purchase finger.

It took me a long time to discover just how good that synth sounds. From the day of its release, I always used Moebius to process other apps. It was only a couple of weeks ago that I loaded one of its synth presets. You're right; it is a bit of a monster. I'm planning on soon building a piece that uses Moebius for all of the tracks.
