Still Apple's decision to remove downloads for existing purchasers though.

This is an important point here. Are you sure the apps should stay in the purchased list even after the dev cancelled his developer subscription?

Why shouldn't they? Apple are under no obligation to update them, but as they've created a culture and business model that makes money from someone else's product by merely hosting it on a server and processing payments, surely the least they can do is to keep it online so previous purchasers can access a copy if they need to.

If there's no security or other issues with the file, why not?

  • It is my assumption that all of the apps I've ever spent money on will atrophy in this uncontrollable way, and therefore I can not rely on them even being there next time I might want to use them.

Every penny I've ever spent on iOS apps is wasted. I won't make that mistake ever again.

I've still got it on my iPad, but it's not in my purchased list. Works without a warning, so I guess the developer stopped paying his Apple subs.

Is that an actual thing? Letting your annual dev cert or whatever it is lapse == pulled from sale? I really hope not. That would be complete horseshit.

    Yeah, $99 per year: https://developer.apple.com/support/purchase-activation/

unless the app is free (but with IAP's)

Still Apple's decision to remove downloads for existing purchasers though.

$99 per year membership is required for anyone wanting to distribute apps in the iOS app store, including those only developing free apps. The "free" apple ID access to development tools is for someone who wants to test developing something and trying it on a test device only.

    So,the answer is:you don't know it
    Apple has often done weird things that"normal"thinking people/consumer don't understand.So i don't ask questions like"why shouldn't they" anymore
To my understanding at least, you have to pay a little for their serverspace as well, even if it's just a few MB.To counter your question:why should they keep those files/apps if no one pays for the webspace anymore?

  • The same is likely to apply to online music purchased through the iTunes Store - it'll randomly disappear. Should've bought vinyl.

Must be a 'temporary' glitch as Diode-108 is still in my purchased list?!

I treat cheaper apps as a bag of chips and not as an investments with life-time support...

Dm1 , DM2 ,diode, vatanor, funkybeat,( all cool drums caused they emule have vintage sampled machine ) drumjam ,drumsession ,patterning and cheap synth like DRC or thumbjam are more benefit and durable than a bag of chips .We can't compare music hobby with gastronomy ( except the price) .we don't consume them the same way. I would be happy if I could keep them for composing at less Five years until a better one comes.

I think I can see the future of the AppStore like this : old apps are gradually deleted and the old big company apps are freely updated ( or getting a new paid iap ). And last but not least the new trend is app with monthly ,annually subscriptions (like Wotja pro 2017 , yousician n-Track studio etc...).
The AppStore wasn't like this in 2016 when I began so I invest a lot and that is Why I would hope to play few years with my diode and old apps before this berezina and change of policy.

  • What I've done was to 'dig out' all the sounds from all the drum/music apps I've bought over the years so I can easily use them in my favourite drum/sampler apps when needed.
(Current favourite and still available drum-apps are Patterning and Elastic Drums).

So even if the 'host apps' are no longer available(some dropped support when iOS7 was released) I still have access to the sounds if needed...

I will be doing some 'serious' spring-cleaning in my app flora, it's already too many making it hard to keep focus.

  • Already lost so much in a short period of time in this digital media age. Getting fed up with it to be honest.

I very much doubt I will be spending much more in iOS music apps or films or music. Infact I don't think software is really for me anymore. I just don't have the money to waste anymore on this throw away way of doing things.

The advantages seemed great to start with. Lots of cheap small purchases, spreading the cost. Problem is it ends up a false economy.

I could almost forgive its problems if it really was easy to back up everything to stand alone hard drives, but even that is made as difficult as possible.

I don't see me being an Apple customer for much longer. I will make music with what I have until it stops working and then move on.

  • I lost a lot of old VSTs and music applications when I had to move from OS9 to OSX. Silver-lining it here, but I'd like to think that this culling is a sign of iOS maturing as it goes from 32 to 64bit.

Due to the nature of cloud storage and the fact they don't want to commit to saving everyone's old stuff forever, they're going to get a lot of complaints and possibly a class action suite out of this, but it probably had to happen sometime.

That said, manufacturers are supposed to be able to provide parts for their products for something like four years after discontinuing (or allow an OEM to do so). I hope that people do make a lot of noise about this and that some kind of agreement can be found for those who don't want to buy an additional computer just so they can back up their old apps.

Fuck Apple, Fuck app store! Fool me once (hundreds of) shame on you ( Badtard!!!) fool me twice (hundred grrff) shame on me. Good bye mother F.....er!!!!! Arghhhh I hate this shit!!!!

From now on, I'll keep my money for hardware.

  • But say your iPad works perfectly with the installed apps, if you have it where it really is working great just don't buy anymore and treat your iPad like a hardware item, sealed up. I might do just that too. Gonna install everything while I still can on my iPhone which has more space and on my iPad the most important apps like DAWS etc.

That's what i'm trying to do.I'm about to freeze my Air 2 to ios 9.3.5 as it works like a charm. But i noticed just today that the ios 10 update currently loads almost DAILY on my devices again. And reminds me more than once a day to f_ckin update it.Before it was at least possible to delete the update and it will give me freedom for about a week.I seriously start to hate this company.Seriously..What.The.F_ck?

  • This is disappointing. If, the Diode 108 people don't make at least $100.00 a year from the app, I guess I can see why they wouldn't pay the developer few, I guess.

I know that I have had pretty good luck when downloading an app for my older devices, it will usually say "an older version of this app is available for download"? Not sure if that is an apple thing or developer thing. It's worked on most except for an older version of gadget.........

  • If that is what it is Apple should have a 'rez the dev' button where you can donate towards the $100. I would toss in a few bucks.

    Bloody good idea that.

Which means it will never happen ...

A beer at 4.49 would be in a urinal 30 minutes later

And will have changed materially very little if the quality of the booze around here is anything to go by.

  • Diode is installed on my iPad but has been deleted from my purchase history. Starting to get a bad taste in my mouth. Unfortunately we all make the agreement with Apple with each update without really reading it . We're at their mercy which is unfortunate. They keep assuring us it's not about the money but they've taken alot of mine ( I willingly handed it over ) but it stinks.......sort of losing my enthusiasm for acquiring anything else. Maybe saving the money for a rainy day is the wiser path

  • And still most of us will buy new apps and idevices :)
There are 2 ways. Ask for a refund or at least message support (maybe a direct chat).
If you are unsure, ask a lawyer if they can do this.
But i also must say that i don't buy much apps these days because the app store is giant garbage and i feel more save to buy from developers and i can store copies on external SSD's.
The customers still decide how far a company can go.

  • Happy my iPad Air 1 is on iOS 7.1.2. No OS update nag screens, super stable and efficient. I suspect iOS JB may become a more sought after solutions for some though I'm currently pricing out modular hardware.

  • Has anyone contacted the app store support team about this?

    Man, grow up.

  • Removing no longer supported apps from sale makes sense. Removing apps I paid for from my purchase history is absolutely unjustifiable.

The argument that they may no longer work on new devices and iOS versions is hogwash. Many of us have kept older devices around with older versions of iOS, and are happy to use them as closed devices that can run older apps perfectly well.

    Not cool.

  • So...

    Yeah...

Are you all sure it disappeared from your purchase history?

It's definitely gone from the store.

  • Looked again in my purchase history..it's gone. Was looking at other purchases and then the application crashed....spooky :#

It's in my purchased list, but when trying to re download it says this item is no longer available.
    That is a bit naughty.

And a LOT of goodies missing. For my taste way too many to justify to stay on ios 7.Even with update nag screens...

  • Just remember Apple can do whatever they want to us. Remember when they put that U2 album on everyone's device without permission. They watch every move we make, every click, search, purchase. We are being monitored. They probably have everyones retinal scans by now and they want our faces too.
I've been making an effort lately to trim down my music making apps to what I really need and the more I weed out the more clear focussed I become but I don't need Apple doing this for me without permission.......they can do anything to us because we have clicked countless times the agreement
Maybe there's a resolution coming soon so hold on
    A glimmer of hope

If Apple still allowed backing up of apps on shitty iTunes then it wouldn't bother me if they removed apps on the App Store because I would have a backup on my computer in case I wanted to use again. Unfortunately they have stopped the ability of customers backing up apps which is really shitty of Apple.

Apple are becoming slimy fucking Hitlers. It is just a shame that latency is a problem for the Android platform because if those app developers created those fantastic iOS apps for Android too then a I would tell Apple to fuck off and buy an Android device instead.
