  • Sooo much goodness from just one app. What a weekend it's become. Thanks again Mr. Developer for this one. Tutorials please?

look at that, it's only been 10 minutes and you beat me to it! ...

Please don't forget to delete v.1.0.1 before installing this version.

It's now on the UK store also.

FYI: I don't know if you have any control or influence over this, but your app never comes up in iTunes store searches for me as layr, or LayR, etc. The ONLY way I can find it is by searching for Living Memory. If there are some search tags in your account to edit so that it gets indexed in the app store's search engine as LayR, it might make it easier for new buyers to find it.

    He's right.

Maybe it's a US thing, same reason you can't get a decent Melton Mowbray.

Off Topic: Stangely enough I just bought a load of very decent Pork Pies from a place in Buffalo.
On Topic: Layr is pretty incredible, still getting to grips with possibilities, going to be a sound design time hole for me for sure.

  • Pork pies and great music sounds incredible to me. Probably tastes just as good no doubt.

Who knows this could be that app that finally goes main stream for production not just us here on the forum. It could be that app that a budding Lennon writes his first big hit on . Now that would be cool to hear. The question is would we even recognize it as such or perhaps just some of even?

  • @skiphunt

Learning curve 15 mins including a few preset explorations, if you've programmed a subtractive synth before. Straightforward. Does not include arpeggiator-wrangling, I haven't touched that yet.

This isn't a holy grail app; I don't think it's essential by any means, especially not if you're a heavy user of Twin 2. But if you like synths and have a little pocket money, it's very likeable and sounds good enough that it's worth finding out if it vibes with you. The developers have done a really good job with it. That's my final verdict.

  • Well today is the big day. First wedding I have DJ'd in awhile and looking forward to being done with it before I am started. :/ My O2 levels are still not quite up to par so I am going to be extremely tired by tonight. Looking forward to getting more time with LayR after tomorrow's birthday party hopefully. Perhaps then I can get some time to actually explore and record with it. Not usually into programming however this sounds better than many of the other iOS synths and will be worth some extra effort. Need to delve into the arp functions a bit deeper, particularly that grid portion as I am not quite sure how that plays in yet for example. So far I have been blindly flummoxing around with nice results for the most part which is yet another testament as to just how easy it is to get something new and rich sounding from this beast of a synth. I do believe this will be one of those go to synths for those of us looking for deep evolving sounds no doubt about that. For now, too much to do on this busy day.

Its really well laid out so learning curve not that steep, plus you can tap the help button and you get an instant overlay reminding you what each control is if you forget.

That is what I'm looking for and about what I suspected.

I don't think this is an essential app for me at the moment. It does look like fun but there are some other apps dropping soon that may be more my cup of tea. Igor of FieldScaper and SoundScaper fame has a new app dropping soonish too that may be more in line with my taste.

I've got some credit though, so if I get an itch and get bored with what I already have, I might go for it.

I was excited by the SLOO thread, a $39 plugin, but it needs Kontakt or whatever it's called to run. Then I saw for a bit more you can get Komplete, which also has Absynth. Komplete would give me more noises and tools to do my strange soundcapes, so I got excited by that for a while until I remembered I can't afford it.

Honestly, I'm still not bowled over by the sound of this one. It's ok, but kinda thin and sterile. The multi-out of different layers is actually the one and only feature that's preventing me from easily forgetting about this app for now. :)

Is Twin 2 available as a purchase for Auria Pro users? If so, I may finally upgrade from Auria.

Twin 2 and also cute (and competent) little One are both included in Auria Pro. You can purchase more presets for both within Auria Store but that is optional.

Funny, at the risk of driving this thread too far off topic, I happen to have just enough credit to buy the Auria Pro upgrade from Auria. My fear is that some of my larger Auria projects for an upcoming album release may not open/work properly because of a perceived performance hit on my iPad Air 1 ... can anyone say whether my fears are unfounded, because I have a new song that has tempo changes and sure could use the tempo track in AP ... ?

Back to LayR - the separate audio outs for different layers is a huge plus and will keep this app on my radar

Yes trying to hold off the temptation as I've got enough synths but the multi out timbrality would be very useful even though I can't see it matching Twin 2 for example. also I'm waiting for Quantum and perhaps Seaquencer, which comes out on Tuesday I think....

Yes lots of Pads and stuff in there to have fun layering with but depends what you're after not many lead sounds. Although it is taxing on the cpu, definitely looking to get an ipad pro 2 when it comes out, think I'm pushing my Air 2 a bit too much these days.

How many instances of Twin are you able to run on your Air 2?

So if anyone else has problems with crackling, turning down the number of voices works.

Strangely, not many here either & waiting for the next Pro after they're announced as well.

@Littlewoodg how is LayR on the CPU? Very, very efficient? Or, real hungry?

  • @skiphunt it typically runs 40-60% with the presets on an iPhone 5s

Yikes! That seems excessive. I almost bought it last night, but I was on my iPhone 5 and it wouldn't let me since it's not supported. Decided to sleep on it again.

depends on the patches used and if you're playing chords or single notes plus added Fabfilter fx etc but yes 3 or 4
