Dont get me wrong, this is my favorite creation app on iOS so far. Its so easy and fun that im taking back up producing beats for my friends to rap over, which i had previously given up entirely to focus on my band and my beatboxing. Its so simple!
Did you tried BlocsWave?
Have it , dont like it. Im gonna get around to using it for beatbox looping in tandem with launchpad open in,someday when i can figure out the mysterious count in for loop recording. Beathawk is way better as a beat machin, for me.
Thanks a lot, @JRSIV !
I cannot get the Demo to play for the Electric Organs expansion pack. Is this the same for other users?
P.S. Would me nice if UVI were to offer a sale on the expansions too during this v.2 rollout period (hint, hint... :-) They've had both the app and expansions on sale at the same time in the past.
I would also really appreciate an IAP sale.
Perhaps this is a misunderstanding, as I took "good things" as a reference to future BeatHawk updates.
You're both good blokes in my book.
Glissando playing nice and easy with Aum's built-in keyboard
Works well with the Cubasis keyboard too when BH2 is loaded as an AUv3.
It's good to know the developers are here checking out the discussion and gathering user-input for future updates
hahaha nooo Johnny is correct, and you're right about both of them.... this is where I come in and inject the prowess of the impc pro, followed by the same for nano studio via Syrupcore

Well, at least trimming & chopping can be done in iMPC Pro and it's not all that bad if one can live without input-monitoring and using AudioCopy for Import & Export
Yes, it's kind of not totally clear on all the expansions. Under the Specs they list PRESETS, SAMPLES, LOOPS, SIZE, etc. In general, I think "PRESETS" means Instruments. Once you purchase a pack, that SPECS information is no longer available. And then when you are browsing to load sounds, terminology is different. You see terms like "Instrument," "Instrument Loops," "Construction Kits," "Drum Elements," "Drum Loops," "Instrument Loops," etc.
Glancing at the expansions that I have, here is a quick rundown on what I'm seeing.
Brass Riffs:
Loops, Instruments (the instruments are classified as "Hit" There are a lot of them -- like maybe 80? They can be played with the keyboard, but they are short stabs, falls, chords, etc. Note range is limited before it starts to sound munchinized. But definitely a lot of useable material).
Electric Piano:
All Instruments, no loops. All Rhodes. No Wurly. About 10 presets. Full and "Lite" versions, Pan, Tremolo, Phaser, Dirt, variations.
Electro Pop:
No Instruments. 4 folders: Construction Kits, Drum Elements, Drum Loops, Instrument Loops.
Funk:
The only Instrument is Bass (acoustic and electric versions). Then it's Construction Kits, Drum Loops, Instrument Loops, Percussion Loops, Vocals.
Latin Percussion:
All individual hits; no loops. Large variety.
Talk Vox:
This is kind of a speciality pack. There are a lot of different types of vocal sounds, and they can be played with the keyboard. There also phrases and beatbox loops… I used some of these vocal sounds to create a kind of Organ instrument on my track "Synth Book."
Trip Hop:
Drum Elements, Drum Loops, Sound Effects. No instruments per se, but again, the samples can be played from the keyboard to created "instruments" of a kind, with varying degrees of success.
Hope this helps. Remember that even though some packs may not have Instruments as such, you can use the samples as instruments and play them from the keyboard for unusual kinds of "instruments," as it were.
Update: I was able to hear the Electric Organs demo by going to UVI's site in a web browser, but still cannot get it to play from within Beathawk.
iSpark controversy (sometimes).
Horses for courses, and all that...
Alright. So this is irritating. I'm exporting things and they show up in the User Library, which is fine, but how do I then move them out to Dropbox or anything else? When I choose iCloud - Import File, as per instructions, it only wants me to import things (no Save button anywhere). Not only that— nothing's showing up in iTunes File Sharing. What am I missing here?
Electric Organs demo not working in app for me either. You can listen to it on their website though.
A sale on the expansions would be fabulous, @BastienCo As a new user I would love that and would probably pick up many if not all.
Shamelessly taken from the manual:
"A number of options are available within BeatHawk to help you organize your sounds and exports. These options include sub-folder management, file management, AudioCopy and iCloud import and export.
Options are available in context menus, accessible by two-finger touching directories or sound files."
For live looping I prefer GTL/LoopyHD but for fast producing with loops and slicing Blocs is straightforward. Now with Launchpad export (and novation hardware support) it's easy to compose and gig in no time. Beathawk2/ReSlice as AU in AUM bus them into Blocs (and used with midi pad) then Launchpad... seems the fastest loop based workflow. If you prefer midi then BM3 or BH2 (and iMpc pro) are the usual suspects
I always used iFunbox (iTunes substitute) to transfer to my computer. As far as I know Dropbox is not supported. Never tried iCloud.
I'm too lazy to cut, paste, and format, so here is a screenshot explainer on using cloud services.
The two finger gesture.. place two fingers on the file and options will appear.
.export seems to be broken.
UPDATE: it is working again for me. Before the Exports subfolders were empty after export.
UPDATE 2: The files are in the subfolders but exporting them to Dropbox does not work. I can select dropbox and destination and click save but nothing happens.
@telecharge @RajahP Ah, yes. Thanks. Silly me, looking in the "Exporting a Song" section.
OK, I just did some testing and it seems something is definitely wrong. I tried both iFunbox and iMazing and under Beathawk you can see a folder called "Projects," but it is empty! And I see no folder called "Exports".
I also tried in iTunes. (It's been so long since I used iTunes to transfer files I had to read a tutorial on Apple's site, but I believe I am doing things correctly.) Again, NO EXPORTS FOLDER, and I can see the BeatHawk Projects folder and I can copy it to my Mac, but it is empty!
What gives, @BastienCo ?
Anyone know how long the sale will go on? Or to put it another way – will this app be still on sale when these hiccups are solved?
I tried the "two-finger gesture" trick and was able to send a project exported as Ableton Live format to iCloud and then transfer from iCloud to my Mac. But I can't get it to work with a regular Beathawk export. Unlike the Ableton Live exports (the "ABLive" folder) where a zip file resides, the Projects I export using the regular "Export" or "Export Multi" option, are EMPTY! And tapping with two fingers only gives an Import and New/Rename/Delete Directory options. No iCloud export option. Huh? Wot?
My exports subfolders were empty after exporting. Now they are populated after trying again. My "projects" folder in app is empty when opened in the user library. (projects do show up in app when accessing folder through load project menu).
I feel ya. Remember when it had that fresh, new iPad smell? Now it's bottom tier, too low for Alchemy in Garageband, bare minimum for lots of newer apps ...
This is very strange. I tried both iFunbox and ITunes and I don't see any folders under Beathawk. There are only two files: Beathawk_Output.log.txt and beathawk.db
You can leave your groove playing, record on the fly to a pad, edit the sample and play along. It's very cool
