I always used iFunbox (iTunes substitute) to transfer to my computer. As far as I know Dropbox is not supported. Never tried iCloud.

I'm too lazy to cut, paste, and format, so here is a screenshot explainer on using cloud services.

I have Dropbox Installed and enabled on my iPad. I enabled it as a Location in Beathawk, but I still can't seem to transfer files from Beathawk to Dropbox. I can send them to iCloud, but not Dropbox.

This is what I'm doing: I do two fingers, I choose iCloud - Export File, then Locations -> Dropbox, I choose the "Apps" folder, then "Save to Apps," but nothing gets sent to Dropbox.

Alright. So this is irritating. I'm exporting things and they show up in the User Library, which is fine, but how do I then move them out to Dropbox or anything else? When I choose iCloud - Import File, as per instructions, it only wants me to import things (no Save button anywhere). Not only that— nothing's showing up in iTunes File Sharing. What am I missing here?

I always used iFunbox (iTunes substitute) to transfer to my computer. As far as I know Dropbox is not supported. Never tried iCloud.

OK, I just did some testing and it seems something is definitely wrong. I tried both iFunbox and iMazing and under Beathawk you can see a folder called "Projects," but it is empty! And I see no folder called "Exports".

I also tried in iTunes. (It's been so long since I used iTunes to transfer files I had to read a tutorial on Apple's site, but I believe I am doing things correctly.) Again, I can see the BeatHawk Projects folder and I can copy it to my Mac, but it is empty!

    What gives, @BastienCo ?

This is very strange. I tried both iFunbox and ITunes and I don't see any folders under Beathawk. There are only two files: Beathawk_Output.log.txt and beathawk.db

I see those two files, and also a Projects and Autosaves folder (but they are empty) and NO Exports folder.

    Definitely screwed up big time.

As it stands, the only thing I can export is Ableton zip file via iCloud. Nice to have that new option, but not at the expense of breaking erstwhile functionality!

I tried the "two-finger gesture" trick and was able to send a project exported as Ableton Live format to iCloud and then transfer from iCloud to my Mac. But I can't get it to work with a regular Beathawk export. Unlike the Ableton Live exports (the "ABLive" folder) where a zip file resides, the Projects I export using the regular "Export" or "Export Multi" option, are EMPTY! And tapping with two fingers only gives an Import and New/Rename/Delete Directory options. No iCloud export option. Huh? Wot?

Export out of the app is still broken for me but I did find that if I access the user library through the browser I see the exports files and get the export option when pressed with two fingers but the projects folder is empty. If I access it through the menu next to the beathawk logo by selecting "load project" the exports folder is empty but the projects folder is populated and provides export option with the two finger press for projects. In both cases clicking exporting fails though.

Dunno, I don't use Dropbox. Maybe a possible workaround is to AudioCopy/Paste into AudioShare?

  • All exporting is working for me. Not sure what's going on for everyone else. I would double-check what you're doing against the manual. I'm on an Air 1 and 10.2.1

Thanks @studioAB, that helped! Yes, the trick, it seems, is that you have to access it from the Browser area. What screws you up is that that you have to do the EXPORT function from the Song area. Then when you look at the folder you just exported in that area, it's empty! And you can't export it to iCloud, etc from there.

BUT.... If you switch from Song mode back to Pattern mode and then select the Browser, THEN you can see your file you just exported. And doing that, I was able to send it to my computer through iCloud.

So, export is really a two step process.

    1. Export from BeatHawk to disk (essentially a mixdown, or bounce to disk of a song). This is done in the Song area.
    2. Export from disk to the Cloud. This is done in the Pattern area using the Browser menu.

I believe it has always been like this in Beathawk. It's just been a while .... :p

Now, what definitely IS broken w/ this update is that the Export and Projects folders are missing or empty in iTunes and iFunbox, etc. That's a huge bummer. It used to be so easy to transfer files. Just Export from Song mode and then plug into the computer, launch iFunbox, and drag what I need to the computer. Now, it's this whole iCloud procedure... More steps, more time consuming... Hopefully, they can get the iTunes sharing option working again.

    I'll keep testing....

Nice, the strings are particularly well done.

I was able to export a mix down of a song into AudioShare and Google Drive but when I tried Dropbox the file never appears. They appear in the export folder under a folder for your project in the Beathawk browser.

I had the song title in asterisk quotes in the red project name area of Beathawk and when I exported the song, it created a folder for the project but it created no wav file inside and when you try to export the project folder using the two finger touch it only gives you import options. I was able to replicate this at will by closing out Beathawk and opening Beathawk up again. Loading up a project from the browser gets rid of the asterisk quotes and export works as expected.

On iFunbox, in the App File Sharing Documents folder for Beathawk, there is no export folder and all of the folders are empty and there's a txt log file and a Beathawk.db file.

Beathawk seems to be having some serious issues after the update.

So there may still be a way that UVI could still use AppGroup, but restore iTunes file sharing support, then? By doing what AudioShare does? (I have never tried AudioShare with iTunes file transfer. I just tried and I could not access AudioShare files w/ iMazing or iFunbox.)

However, I just tested and found that Gadget and iMaschine projects ARE accessible via iMazing. Do Gadget and iMaschine support AU?

  • So here's the export rundown on my end.

    iPad Air 1
    Export: Creates an empty folder
Export Multi: Creates an empty folder
Export Midi: Creates an empty folder
    Ableton Live Export: Works!

    iPhone5
    Export: Creates an empty folder
    Export Multi: Crash
Export Midi: Creates an empty folder
    Ableton Live Export: Crash

    ugh

I don't know, AudioShare and AUM aren't AU apps although AUM is an AU host. It's worth asking Beathawk if they could do an AudioShare iTunes only export style folder though. It does seem like they have gone through a lot of effort to replicate our individual user library folder structures to facilitate importing via iTunes so perhaps it'd be feasible to do export to iTunes?

Alternatively using iCloud, Dropbox or Google Drive on a PC could be an alternative to having to use iTunes/iFunbox for exporting files from Beathawk.

I am also on an iPad Air 1. Yes, it does appear the folders are empty in Song mode, BUT if you switch to Pattern mode and then click on the Browser (then User Library -> Exports folder), you will see the same folders and they are NOT empty, and you CAN export via iCloud (by tapping with two fingers).

Works for me, at least. See what I wrote above on this. It's FAR from intuitive, and easy to get confused, but, if you follow these exact steps, it should work.

Not a fan of the iCloud method, but it seems to work. Dropbox does nit work. REALLY wish they would restore iTunes file sharing support somehow.

Unfortunately, still empty folders for me. Following the steps is what allowed me to successfully export that Live Set, so I'm at a loss at this point. I expect we'll hear from @BastienCo soon.

  • I have been getting empty folders sometimes and normal exports other time. Definitely not working properly.

  • I get the same Beathawk behavior on my iPad Mini 2 as I did on my iPad Air 2 including Dropbox not exporting the file via iCloud Drive. The export of mix, MIDI, and multi files each create their own seperate project folder with date in the export folder. Ableton export creates an ABLive folder with a zip file. If you save or load your project first before exporting after opening up Beathawk, export will work as expected.

When transferring songs between devices you will also have to import any custom samples too. If your sample names and file structure is the same as for the kit used in the song, you'll be fine.

Does anyone know which IAPs have a decent number of playable instruments in them. I know mello does (and the piano packs, of course). Any others?

Yes, it's kind of not totally clear on all the expansions. Under the Specs they list PRESETS, SAMPLES, LOOPS, SIZE, etc. In general, I think "PRESETS" means Instruments. Once you purchase a pack, that SPECS information is no longer available. And then when you are browsing to load sounds, terminology is different. You see terms like "Instrument," "Instrument Loops," "Construction Kits," "Drum Elements," "Drum Loops," "Instrument Loops," etc.

Glancing at the expansions that I have, here is a quick rundown on what I'm seeing.

    Brass Riffs:
Loops, Instruments (the instruments are classified as "Hit" There are a lot of them -- like maybe 80? They can be played with the keyboard, but they are short stabs, falls, chords, etc. Note range is limited before it starts to sound munchinized. But definitely a lot of useable material).

    Electric Piano:
All Instruments, no loops. All Rhodes. No Wurly. About 10 presets. Full and "Lite" versions, Pan, Tremolo, Phaser, Dirt, variations.

    Electro Pop:
No Instruments. 4 folders: Construction Kits, Drum Elements, Drum Loops, Instrument Loops.

    Funk:
The only Instrument is Bass (acoustic and electric versions). Then it's Construction Kits, Drum Loops, Instrument Loops, Percussion Loops, Vocals.

    Latin Percussion:
All individual hits; no loops. Large variety.

    Talk Vox:
This is kind of a speciality pack. There are a lot of different types of vocal sounds, and they can be played with the keyboard. There also phrases and beatbox loops… I used some of these vocal sounds to create a kind of Organ instrument on my track "Synth Book."

    Trip Hop:
Drum Elements, Drum Loops, Sound Effects. No instruments per se, but again, the samples can be played from the keyboard to created "instruments" of a kind, with varying degrees of success.

Hope this helps. Remember that even though some packs may not have Instruments as such, you can use the samples as instruments and play them from the keyboard for unusual kinds of "instruments," as it were.

    Thanks, @Lady_App_titude , that's very useful.

And by pointing an outside source (daw, sequencer) at those midi-learnt parameters ...

Took a chance on the 'Greece/Turkey' Set, four or five fine string instruments (also with tremolo), good enough percussion/drum phrases and patterns that can be tempo-linked.
Personally, I'm liking the Oud and tambourines. Tremolo is varying slightly depending on octave/pitch, and if slowing down the speed below 60 or so the patterns are becoming less usable, but surely a nice mediterranean playground (:

  • @BastienCo Do any of the downloadable libraries have Caribbean steel drums? If not consider it a request!
