I've only started using Garageband recently (Noise), but with almost every session I get the cascading latency within 5-10 minutes.
I believe GB is hard-wired to 44100?
Well, i just bought the 10.5” pro and updated it to iOS 11.02. I have won the digital noise issue (IPolysix..but i guess all my audioapps will do it) when i plug the usb connection on my macpro, the digital noise is only coming from the headphone output, the digital inputs are ok, i use cubase 9pro. Apple should fix it if isnt an hardware project issue, anyway seems that im stucked at 44.1 kHz, once recorded and used the ipad as audio interface my rme fireface802 stops to working well! Crazyness...
On AUM one can change from 44.1 to 48 kHz in settings not sure if this fixes things, anyone test?
Ran 10 min test in GB with AUs iSymphonic and IAA no issues on speakers. 12.9 2017 on 10.3.3 I will test on headphones next.
Where does one see latency in AUM or GB?
Here is the Korg bug report form:
https://support.korguser.net/hc/en-us/requests/new
Please report the crackling. Korg might have clout with the apple audio engineers. In fact, I encourage everyone to file these bug reports.
Yes, technically, we have identified this as an Apple issue. But, our apps are breaking. This should make app developers concerned, because we won't buy their apps if they crackle. The goal is to empower developers with data on their own apps so that they can also report the bug to Apple.
Korg is a high-profile developer.
What other developers would have the most influence with Apple?
(Here is what I sent Korg):
Hi, I cannot use Gadget on my new ipad Pro (system 11, current).
After a few minutes, I get crackling noise. It seems to be related to the headphone jack.
More info in this thread:
https://forum.audiob.us/discussion/20114/new-ipad-pro-12-9-2017-problem-with-latency-and-digital-noise/p1
Also, there are reports that it does not happen at 48khz sample rate. Can you add an option for 48kz sample rate?
[snip]
Thanks.
Just tried headphones on AUM with 44.1 and 48 kHz no crackling...
Then again it's AUM
yes, now we are getting somewhere on this issue, was immediately getting horrible noise issue etc in Audioshare just with one file looping and one au or iaa plugin. after reading the latest on this thread I went into audioshare settings and then to hardware settings, setting it to 48khz there solved the issues as far as i can hear over maybe 15 mins playing,
went to cubasis and started a new project at 48khz and could use au instruments iaa and au fx etc , non of the previous problems/noise/latency occured. you can use 44khz wavs in a 48khz project without conversion, have to try switching an older 44khz project to 48 to see how that goes.
I had been using my guitarjack2 interface with lightning adapter for headphones without problems as a workaround previously and that was all aok too.
anyway, ipad pro10.5 512 gb is now (sort of) reinstated as useable on headphones I think.
I emailed Jonatan Liljedal to ask if this gave him any clues on this issue,, wonder what he will make of it.
meantime, perhaps korg is a good place to bug report ( especially if Gadget doesn't have a 48khz workaround, though I wasn't having much problem in gadget to be fair ) but I still think the Apple bug report is the place to hammer.. and now we can give them a clue at least..
onwards!
Nice to hear that a reasonable fix may be possible, I'm going to be giving it a good trial as well over the next few days, so fingers crossed.
I've created a post in the Korg community forums here:
https://support.korguser.net/hc/en-us/community/posts/115019074683-Crackling-audio-noise-on-iPad-Pro-10-5-and-12-9-
Please post. We need to make as much noise as we can so Apple solves the problem.
I'm very impressed with the knowledge of this forum. Apple should thank the members. I'm waiting for the problem to get fixed before upgrading to pro.
This is interesting. I had reported how I have way more problems now in BM3 but I'm realizing I had switched from 48kHz to 44kHz in order to get around a different issue. I didn't really experience issues before on my 10.5" running @48kHz. I will switch back and see if my problems disappear. Thank you!
I'm happy my previous brain fart may knock down bugs in iOS and help some people.
For some reason I don't have crackling on headphones post a restart. I read previously that restarting fixed issue, likely was due to program with discordant audio sampling eg 44.1 kHz open that is closed post restart that removes the resampling
Maybe if this is isolated to audio sampling we can list programs with 48.0 kHz settings so far I have
Auria Pro (start new project select 48.0 kHz)
AUM (settings 48)
AudioShare (click i > settings > 48.0 )
Beatmaker 3 (setting gear > audio> 48000
hats off to Gustos's brain trumps!
i wish my farts were as productive.
!!!!!!From the ios 11.1 beta 2 release notes!!!!!!
“Fixed an occasionally occurring issue with audio latency or distortion on iPad Pro (12.9- inch) (2nd generation) and iPad Pro (10.5-inch). (33844393)”
Great news
So pleased to read this! Fingers crossed...
yes!! just need the public beta to drop
!! YAY !!
Posted over at the apple forum.
Thanks willhindson
Yes! Finally Apple are listening.
Well if they have solved it, looks like they might get a sales bump from all those holding back till this got fixed, so hopefully it will get a general release soon, but if anyone tries the beta please report back.
I'm crying. I don't now what I'll do if it doesn't work.
I so want to believe. But other than this Audio Glitch we are experiencing, these Pros are AWESOME. iOS 11 is fantastic from a general user perspective. Every one I see with a new Pro loves it.
I live in the SF Bay Area. When we have a "mobile music meetup" we can get up to about 30 people to a gathering tops. A similar Ableton meetup has over 100.
I don't doubt that Apple ~will~ see a nice little bump. But I think it will mostly be an equalization of "good business", and not a meaningful cash windfall for Apple.
But damn what are we fighting for?
Let's keep our fingers crossed for this possible fix!
The step to a solution is first admitting you have a problem, that at last Apple has done, so the solution one way or another is just a matter of time.
was about to post that.. kinda good news, but annoying it isn't firmware solvable, It involves a mandatory step up to the ios 11 plate.. I'm not imagining the bonus features of 11 outweigh the heartbreak and anguish of sailing out from the calm harbour of ios 10.3.2
adobe PS Touch being a favourite wench in taverns there.
I did a GarageBand jam yesterday, connected the audio out with the lightning adapter and no issues
Might have been lucky, but longer than 10.00 and no issues.
I got the following response back from Korg support today. Amusingly, I emailed the release notes to my contact in the background, so I'm not sure if I'm getting my own feedback!

Latency problem resolved for me in latest 11beta on iPad 10.5"
In AUM input ipad mic, output cans using jack, no plugins
At 44.1/16 also 48/24.
Previously, latency appeared clearly even before a minute
Now no latency after 5+ minutes
Went away and came back an hour later, still no latency.
Just the usual ipad mic hiss, but that is totally eradicated by Brusfri noise reduction app (available in the next couple of days)
Yoohoo :-)
What about those using other hosts and on latest beta?
I know we’re not supposed to divulge findings before public release, but I don’t think Apple minds us reporting good news.
^ Great to hear that it's tested OK !
So what's the verdict guys? Has anyone else jumped on the new Beta and had success?
good so far
In the meantime, I have had great results with Amazons lightning to 3.5 mm dongle.
