This sounds promising thanks for sharing information.

Nice one, thanks for the report. :)

In the meantime, I have had great results with Amazons lightning to 3.5 mm dongle.

this is an excellent idea, at £9 even the official apple one is cheap enough and could save me from ios11 blues for the near future. tanks for the tip.

everyones talkin' bout the latency fix,, but what about the horrible noise issue? did that get sorted?
    pro 10.5 here.

I heard the crackle once or twice when on ios 10+, but haven’t heard it since. Latency was immediate, but when the horrible noise monster would attack couldn’t be predicted. Maybe it’s dead, maybe hibernating, maybe just in dragon sleep with one eye just a hair’s breadth open, waiting for my most vulnerable moment to fry me along with a rival dragon’s egg ;-)

Just to make it clear; the official lightning/3.5mm adapter from Apple doesn’t remove the problem with increasing latency and digital noise on my big iPad Pro 2017...
Although, my Apogee One v2 soundinterface connected to lightning is solving the problem...

I’m on iOS 11.1 beta 2 (just installed) AND, all the problems that this thread is about seems to be FIXED!

    I’m a happy man again!

Although my former statement about the lightning adapter not working is regarding 11.0 and down...

Do you know if they problem is fixed with loading more than 4 Of the same AU’s in a host (other than AUM because they built in a work around)?

    @Drez
Any AUv3 plugin is limited by AU rules to a certain maximum. If you use many instances of the same plugin, you can go over this maximum. It’s not a bug. It’s by design but I don’t know why.

  • @drez
Jonatan Liljedahl explained this somewhere in the iPad Musician group. The limit is by design of Apple. Not a bug.

this doesn't explain why you can have more instances of a plug in on older iPads and fewer on the newest Pros.

  • @nick
Is that still the case with the latest ios in the pro2? I’m rather minimalist, and use AUM anyway, so I don’t know.

As I understand it is a resource (memory) limit and the graphics demands of the the new Pros use up those resources quicker.

You could be correct, but the 10.5 and the 9.7 resolutions aren't too different, so if twice the memory was needed for the faster refresh rate, this was doubled from 2 to 4Gb. So the performance for the 10.5 should match the 9.7 at least.

  • I don't think it is about the system memory.

I can't remember where I read it or if it is correct but I recall somebody saying that the Apple imposed limit is 340Mb per AU. This is what get used up quicker with the new Pros.

  • So does the Air2 have some phantom extra memory ?
It is reported everywhere that it runs more instances of AU plugins than the pros.

  • edited October 2017

Maybe you have to adjust ios settings to tell the ipad pro2 not to use all the extra graphics possibilities. That way the graphics chip doesn’t have to work more than on the Air2.

  • Mh ... but if the AUM dev was able to implement a workaround so that new iPad Pros can load many instances of an audio unit, doesn't that indicate that it is simply a bug?

  • I just had it with 11.03.....unplugged headphone and used lightning out and was fine.

Although GarageBand won’t open my AU tracks now, must say I’m going back to my hardware untouched ok this mess is sorted out...

Now I’ve tested what mr @drez was questioning about...

I could easily drive eight (8) instances of Ruismaker FM into the sequencer in Beatmaker 3... OK?

    iOS 11.1 beta 2 and iPad Pro 12.9” 2017...

Thanks for testing that @ErrkaPetti !

Can you do one last thing? Save that session with all 8 instances and then try to reopen the session. The issue is (at least mine is) that it doesn’t reopen them properly when it has to reload the session.

11.0.3 still has the bug. The fix will be in 11.1 as I understand it which hasn't been released yet. Still in beta.

Apple seems to have made us happy again!

Piece of cake to just install it now...
Download the beta profile, restart the iPad and then, the update will come OTA...
