I really wish I knew last week that this was going to be released, when macOS gadget was on sale (assuming it'll appear on macOS gadget sooner or later).

Hi Ian, do you recall what the UK sale price was?

I would have jumped on that too if I had known.

Been going through your Mono/Poly walkthrough again. Good stuff.

I can't remember exactly but I think it worked out as about £169ish

Thanks, I enjoyed doing it. It had sat in the attic since 1999 and I was surprised how much of it I remembered, and actually, how much of my knowledge of it had improved since I was actually using it (eg, in the cross modulation and fm areas - which modulation generators work with which things under which circumstances). When I used to actually use it for real, I'd have the fm input hooked to one track of my Korg SQ-10, so my typical Mono/Poly sound involved a sequenced subtle cross-mod+fm+filter cutoff independent of the melody. It is important to note (if you have a real one) that the CV input on the back is one volt per octave, which by then was a dominant standard, used on all the Roland gear. However, the fm input is volts per Hz, which is what all previous Korg synths used for the VCO tracking from the keyboard, so if you mix Korgs and Roland's, you can still get the tune from other Korg gear by going into the VCO from the fm jack instead of the cv jack. Also, the gate input has a switch from active high (roland) or active low (korg and moog), so they really thought of everything with this synth.

In so many ways, I see the same kind of thinking in the Minilogue, and I say so at the end of the video series. But, I didn't know about the Monologue back then (obviously). I wonder which is more of the inheritor?

Seems like iMono/Poly and the Montpellier Gadget were 'rushed out' as parts of the UI have not yet been translated. This was also the case with Odyssei so it's most likely we'll be seeing updates pretty soon :)

    Fixed in 3.3.2 out now

Cool let's hope they update the Mono/Poly app as well :)

  • Just asking again: Has anyone found any other small improvements than the ones in the release notes?

  • This new gizmo reminded me that I needed to delete Gadget. So far, not missing it.

Seems like they fixed this glitch were you could access Factory bank B without the iap.
Those who want to check these presets out, and save their favorites to the user bank, might wanna do this before they update B)

I was humming and ahhing about getting Gadget for mac, and finally pulled the trigger on 20th right before the sale ended. Worked out at £160.28 when paypal converted it from dollars.

I am really enjoying having the mac version - it's so good to be able to work on the iPad, or the mac, or even my iPhone (whatever is in front of me at the time) and just add an idea to a project that I'm working on.

  • Just installed the Gadget 3.3.2 update and some menus in Montpellier are still not translated :(

Good tip for those who have not bought the IAP ;)

I was thinking more in the line of the general update - we know that metronome always on during count-in has been added, and a fix for notes played before beat 1 - I was wondering what other improvements (not mentioned in the release notes) that may have been made.

Apart from the ones you mentioned (and the new gadgets select screen with the logo-fonts) I haven't discovered any.

Was really hoping to see a fix for the CPU/battery drain. Korg recently replied they have not experienced abnormal battery consumption but are still investigating.

  • Never did find a way to modulate the metronome in Gadget (too bloody loud!)...

  • I can't possibly buy this. The panels and buttons etc are all covered in skeuomorphic dirt, dust and filth. The buttons even have a ridiculous amount of dirt belying an untouched abandoned piece of equipment that nobody wants to go near. All the yellow buttons have identical filth.

My Mono/Poly when I let it go last summer was nowhere near as dirty or maltreated as this. Mine was in very good condition indeed, and well looked after, especially the final few cleanings before handover. I don't think there can be many Mono/Polys in such a bad state as the iMono/Poly represents – of all synths, this is one that will attract both frequent usage and good care. It also has no internal battery (unlike the contemporaneous Polysix, most of which are leaking acid now if they haven't been caught doing so in the past few years and had their backup cells replaced).

I'm usually not a fan of skeuomorphism unless it's based on a vintage synth where I think it's at least justified and might have similar dirt as one today. Having said that I wouldn't have minded one bit if they cleaned it up a bit. :)

Maybe there should be a "wipe panels" feature?
Actually I think it might be a nice touch if an app like this got dirtier the more you used it as long as you could clean it too :)

  • Someone left a critical review on the store, something about it looking 'like an old printed sheet', which made me chuckle

  • Still looks better than Madrid.

  • @u0421793

I guess I overlooked the GUI at first. Now I can't unsee the fact it looks like somebody j-zzed all over the iMono/Poly interface (and all over its Gadget counterpart Montpellier). :D FML.

  • In standalone mode / IAA I can't play another synth with midi keyboard (or steppolyarp or...) at the same time - that shit iMonoPoly listens all channels. Any workaround?

Settings Cog in the upper left, and set Global MIDI Channel to a number rather than Omni. Should be the proper fix.

  • Maybe @jakoB_haQ can give it a few extra wipes with his famous cloth if he reviews it?

YES! 100% yes to this, lol.

Lol, I didn't even notice the 'dirt graphics' as my screen is already filled with fingerprints and my eye-sight is not super sharp also I'm not OCD when it comes to wiping the screen...

The only 'dirt' I thought was real was top left of the portamento knob, tried to scrub it a few times :D
(And strangely enough I seem to really be enjoying the Aeolian scale in the key of F).

  • The user and all related content has been deleted.

Yeah I didn't notice it when I looked at the store screens, but now my eyes are automatically drawn to the scuffs.

I think that's taking the emulation thing just a little too far. What next - crackly pots?

Nah, I was thinking soda/beer stains, breadcrumbs, and maybe a cobweb or two.

  • Agree with Mr. Monza here. The grunginess aspect of the emulation is a bit much. I prefer my toys to be shiny and nice and brightly sparkling new. I was the kid and I still am today the one that always polished and took great care of my vinyl and gear. I hate the addition of dirt and dings. YUCK!!! I love me my Jakob Haq polishing his cloth on the iPad screen it always brings a big smile to my face. If that makes me OCD so be it.

  • Sorry Mr. Monzo, my bad!!!

When I buy an app I don't want it to look like it's been in someone's damp shed for 20 years - especially when it's costing £30(full price). My (nearly 40 year) old MS20's a bit dusty, but with a polish it'd look as good as the iMS20 version.

Don't get it Korg, or other apps that add dirt or (lol) fake screen glare.
