Lisbon is a good one. Lots of sonic madness to be had. No puzzles involved in working it out- it's basically intuitively fiddle about and something decent will come. Great fun to be had drawing in the plentiful automation options. You can move the notes in the grid and change the preset as the arpeggios plays. It goes well with Effects in Audiobus/AUM. If you are in to EDM or experimental type music- it's a must have Gadget.

I’m prolly being a daftee but how do you hold a note in Lisbon?

I don't think the arpeggiator has a hold function- you need to draw your notes in- on the grid. Or of course record a live looping version. Then you can do all your arpeggio things on it.

@Tim did you try to export an old project to Dropbox first, that’s how .i got it too work

    Thanks Doug,
I tried that but ... then I read the next comments:

Just in case anyone is confused like I was. In Vancouver If you tap the name at the bottom you only have the option of importing from iTunes or Dropbox- if you tap the name at the top- there is good old Audioshare.

    Because:

    Top: changing samples
    Bottom: changing presets

and after working out what it meant, finally got it working. Thanks to all!

  • All of a sudden Gadget wants to open 'Pulse' from 'Pulse Code Inc.' when I try to import samples from AudioShare.

I wish ALL apps would resort to using standard iOS ways of handling files instead of relying on custom SDKs...

Nice, I'm a single-cycle junkie especially when it comes to mixing hem together :)

Only problem for now is that Gadget wants to open 'Pulse' from Pulsecode Inc. when I choose to import from AudioShare. I so wish apps would start to use Files.app/DocumentPicker for all Import & Export operations.
(Imagine digging directly into BM3's folder structure when importing samples into to Vancouver or exporting from Gadget directly to a folder inside BM3 as an example).

Thanks for the waves and samples :)

  • Korg Gadget lierally just got hotter. Playing a bit with Lisbon even the newest Pros heat up quite a bit. And even freeze. (freezing being the escalation of heating up, ironically)

Apart from that, I really like this future synth.

Gadget seems to run a lot cooler on iphone8 plus but not really hammered it yet

Pulse is some kind of unintended Trojan (calm down America). I've deleted it many times because of this matter (with several other apps, not just Gadget).

True that. But then it's just a matter of time before some other 'app' comes and takes it's place and the problem come back like some one is shooting 'rubber bands' back at ya. (Or blow em full of air and let them loose in the air?!).

So I do feel that the core of this problem is that iOS App Launcher Services have some issues keeping track of the apps installed on the devices. This has been the case with AudioCopy in the past as well...
(When I look back at this the problems arrived after I did an update to iOS11.1.2 this morning as I was able to import samples yesterday when I was still running iOS11.1.1).

Some people over at Apple iOS Quality Assurance department should be looking for the jobs considering how things are developing...

I don’t have Pulse, but when I import it opens AudioShare normally.

I know, it's an iOS bug when iOS gets 'confused' about what apps are installed on the device...

If I delete Pulse.app AudioShare opens as usual (It worked under iOS11.1.1 with Pulse.app installed, after this mornings update to iOS11.1.2 it started to act). I can delete Pulse.app, start AudioShare once and then install Pulse again and everything is good but I do NOT like uninstalling apps to 'work around' iOS Bugs. I know AudioCopy had similar issues in the past...

If Korg had implemented Files.app/DocumentPicker support for all things Import & Export related it would be a 'non issue' :)

  • It's always Pulse. Have had this with multiple apps. The devs of the other apps always fixed it so I'm guessing they found out the problem.

Yeah, maybe it's just an old version of the AudioShare SDK that is being used by Gadget?

  • How long do Korg usually keep their intro prices for new gadgets?

They say until Nov 30. Consistently they've had Christmas sales though. They also have 50% whenever they release something like a new app or another update.

I think the current sale runs until the end of the month. At least, I read that on some Korg page or other a couple of days ago (can’t seem to find it now).

A couple of notes on the latest update (scratching the surface):

    • Gadget now saves project bpm! I missed this one. I’m a little annoyed that it made me happy.*

    • Nobody seems to like Lisbon, but it’s got a nice filter and the effects aren’t too shabby. I approached this one with very low expectations and it turns out I’m really enjoying crafting pads with a 1-osc toy box. You can get a nice sizzle without even reaching for the effects section.

    • Vancouver has potential. Its limitations led me to reach for Fairlight samples and a few Sound Canvas favourites, but it’s clearly capable of big things.

    • DeeMax is a keeper.

I’m happy with the update. Hadn’t used Gadget for ages.

  • So Deemax is the favorite? Is it worth the money. On the one hand, I could use a simple volume smashing solution with zero to fuss over, in the other hand, seems pricey for what it is. Anyone got some before and after Deemax comparisons?

I hated Lisbon right off the bat, and my hate (combined with my Scottish stubbornness and frugality) forced me to find a way to use it. And now I have. I do really hate the icon for it, though.

Vancouver — I really like the circumscribed nature of it. Will force me to learn it without tons of options I don't understand. I see myself sampling all manner of non-Gadget-sounding sounds.

Dee Max. Why is it a keeper? Does it have any downside? If it's just a button to make things better, why not just build it in, dammit!?

  • DeeMax absolutely should be built in. It’s not worth the money, I resent that part, but I knew that the greyed out looming presence would ruin the Gadget times. I don’t want it taken away is what I mean.

It does make your mix louder, deftly, and that’s not nothing.

The VR goggles are as mystifying as they are unnecessary.

  • Just a different opinion...I love Lisbon.

It brings 'chords sets' (like Maschine) to Gadget and the sound is right up my alley. I wish they would label the chords like Maschine though.

DeeMax, on the other hand, I'm pretty sure I have no use for. I usually export stems and don't mix in Gadget at all. Listening to the demos of the original plugin, DeeMax doesn't have enough saturation to be used for sound design, it's more a simple controled maximizer, like Waves L-series. Seems like it could be easily abused.

Haven't purchased Vancouver yet, but I think it's supposed to be a Fairlight-influenced gadget, which seems cool in a "old school" limited way. I'm just a sucker for Korg so I'll probably grab it and just have one less drink at the bar this weekend.

I really wish Korg would create a gadget that emulates the DSS-1/DSM-1 or port of the old OASYS PCI system.

It used to be that iPad apps were much cheaper than desktop/pc apps, but with Gadget, it seems like it's actually the opposite and it's cheaper on desktop.

I see that the full version of Gadget on desktop is now $149, and if I'm not mistaken, that includes every gadget.

With the iPad gadget, each extra gadget is a recurring expense as you have to buy every single thing being released now and in the future too (if you want the full collection), as each individual gadget is a separate IAP.

I'm wondering if the desktop version of gadget will get every new gadget to be released in the future too for free?

If yes, then perhaps I should just buy the desktop version.

The desktop version is not as fun whilst laid on the sofa or laid in bed or on the train or in a hammock!

My use case is create on iphone and export to Ableton using vst/au option which adds some much more value to what I do on the iPhone...great combo if u have the cash

  • Just tried to download Lisbon and getting strange App Store messages it told me I’ve brought it even though Gadget was closed! Getting App Store purchase failed come up. It always worry’s me that our get charged for something I can’t get. Anyone else having trouble with UK Store?

  • I have DeeMax buyer’s remorse. Tried it on several tracks and found it added little that I don’t already get from post-processing, and I’m not even good at that. I found it too easy to distort things to the point where I felt like I should go back and adjust my mix to make it work, but no thanks. Most of my tracks lean towards downtempo, for what it’s worth. Can I get a refund on IAP? Never asked for a refund before...

Worked fine when I bought the IAP’s a couple of days ago but the UK AppStore does seem strange. As others have reported it is showing updates from 2 years ago !!
