Hi- I am wondering if it has monophonic/replace record option like figure or iKaossilator? That would really put the cats amongst the roast turkeys.

    +1. Anyone know?

It seems to 'replace' the previous note on a step if you time your playing right :)
So in a sense it replaces the note on a step when a new note is played...
...but 'holding down a note' doesn't replace it.

It's a deep app and I've got a lot to discover even though I do have an Electribe 2...
(Don't know if we get another beta before release but I do hope so).

  • OK - sell it to me folks! What does this bring to the party?

  • everything is midi controllable I hope? :)

Not at the release but he said midi in will come in the first update

It's super fun to use with the touch-screen too...
Many small features in there that make this a joy to play with!

It's deep and some features need a tap-tap to reach.
The sequencer's 'stroke' and 'probability' among other nice things and the automation is really, really nice.
(Did I say I love automating sample-start/end hehe).

What type of export/s are we to expect?

Ableton Export is planned as far as I know but may be not in initial release...
For now I treat it as 'hardware' and record the output(IAA/AB), with link that's a breeze!

Those who know me I'm pushing for all standard export options we've gotten used to.
But I'm not the developer so what comes, comes and some things might come with an update :)

Needless to say I will most likely not be using my hardware Electribe 2 that much once this app is out...
(In some ways it's more flexible than the hardware, especially when it comes to editing the automation).

So I guess 'Midi Output' is available?

No at the moment and for me personally it's NOT an issue at all to be honest.
Hook it up in AUM enable Link & Audio recording and jam away...

    Ok... Thanks for clarifying...

  • I think that one of the main differences between this and the electribe will be about £340 (or nearly £700 if you have two iPads).
Another difference I am anticipating is that this one will actually work the way it is meant to

Does it have a 'pattern call' feature?- and are the muted parts carried forward to the next pattern?
Samu- can you tell us a little more about the coming of the 'stroke' and 'probability' that you spaketh of just a short time ago?- cheers.

'Stroke' is like a 'ratchet' found in step sequencers.
It 'divides' the step into sub-steps and can optionally ramp the velocity up/down.
It's very handy for 'fills' and 'rolls' or simply double/triple/quad-triggering a step for bass-lines etc.

'Probability' is just as it says a % value if the step will play or not.
It's very handy for adding variation to a pattern.

I've honestly not checked it the mutes carry over when changing patters but it is possible to chain patterns.
Also I've not experienced any abrupt cut-outs of sounds/effects when changing patterns.
(Something the the Electribe 2's are known for).

With the limited time I've had with the app I've not dug into everything yet...
But I've found at least a few gotchas I've reported to Jim and a new beta should drop any moment.

Even as a 'stand alone' it's a very fun app to use and it's got enough flexibility and as some say 'limitations spark creativity' :)

I'm definitely looking to use this purely standalone for complete tracks

I love the 'automation' just tap on a step and tweak a knob :)

  • Thanks for that Samu- great news about there being no cut out/ sustain issues-this just sounds better and better .... Is it still due out on Christmas Eve? :o

  • I really dig that demo video style. Kinda wish the screens were flipped though—lots more detail going on with the small screen version.

    I really don't know to be 100% honest :(
(I'll try to do my very best and test every area of the app and report issues back to Jim but ultimately it's he who will decide when to launch it and in what priority things will get 'fixed' and what is 'save' for an update etc.).

I know from experience that even if an 'issue' has been reported a 'tester' has no control over the fix-priority list...
(I'm just now starting to see things pop up in BM3 that were reported during the initial beta as an example).

Time will tell where all this goes :)

Sneak peak of the built in patterns and sounds:

Oh, and the German store has a preview or such:
    https://itunes.apple.com/de/app/groove-rider-gr-16/id1318750537?mt=8

This means: 10,99 Euro or 9,99 Dollar (half price) for a limited time.

I didn't make it more than a minute into that video, music sooo cliche. But if I were 14-years-old and wanted to impress girls with my DJ skills I'd be all over it.

Personally I'm banking on the ability to write my own original tunes being one of the key features

    Lol, I’m presuming that’s a feature of db909, not the app? ;)

The vid music was godforsaken awful, but it looks like Xmas eve will have a bit of retail therapy and app distraction baked in :)

This is like the E2+E2S were injected with a bit of DNA from the black Elektron’s sequencers.
All that & “Low CPU”, hmmm.

...not only easy on CPU, storage usage is ~60MB and it's 'universal' to boot...
It's capable of a lot more than the 'cheesy dance music' in the demo video :)

  • Haha, but what if I like the cheese?

  • No sample import on this?

BTW, I love cheese. Sounds Great...

I get it; one needs to appeal to the lowest common denominator to move units. I hope he sells a whole lot of them. And maybe if I hear someone doing something interesting with it I'll even consider buying it myself.

  • I would totally buy that album.
