Very good. I don't think that's derailing, more keeping the punters entertained while we await Mister Rider and his groove etc,.

  • Ok, I’m now interested. Does it have proper synths or just sample based??

  • Ultimately it's all down to workflow and connectivity. If there's too much menu scrolling and stuff tucked away, then people will play with it for five minutes but then wander off to use something that's easier to navigate. Looks interesting, and I've always wanted one of these Electribe fellers, but the proof is in the playing.

  • This will be my Christmas present!

  • I really like electribes. I miss my EMX, and my electribe2 is loaned out to a friend, so can't wait for this.

Hopefully the main page and the mixer are the only two screens. That would be amazing. But you are right. I'm ok with tabs, but scrolling is a sin

The 'synth engine' is very similar to that on the Korg Electribe 2 series.
Meaning you get a bunch 'waveform'(PWM, FM Oscillators, Sync, RingMod, Detuning + more) with two well chosen parameters that you can modulate and a few filter-types etc.
It's based on the Poison-202 engine so it does NOT sound 100% like the Electribes but can get 'close'.

It's simple enough to tweak so there is currently no 'presets', all patches are stored as part of the pattern (but you can copy parts from one pattern to another). It's plenty flexible for most types of sounds but not very 'deep'.
I'd say it's 'easy and fun' to use and all knobs can be automated...

For the 'samples' you get to choose between two sets of parameters, either mess with the start/end or use a combo of decimator and over-drive. (If one needs over-drive and control over start/end one can assign the over-drive to the IFX slot).

As I see it's it's a 'Korg Electribe' with some of it's annoyances removed...

That sounds great .... I could listen to this all night...... it’s starting to sound like my dream machine that was made especially for me. Am I imagining this - or are you really there? Please tap yourself on the forehead to confirm.

    Tap tap ;)

Another beta just dropped, wonder if there will be another one before release?

Great, seems like a hands-on developer... Edit ... like Bram Bos.

    Lol, it's mostly bug-fixes...
I mean it's like better if some one else bumps into them before it's out right?
For now I'm just verifying that the stuff I've reported works properly and so far it does :)
(I can't guarantee I'll 'find everything' but I'm doing my best).

I have never really understood what this actually means? Surely another beta would be a ceta and then a deta. How many betas can you have? Here is my beta- but I might have another one- slightly different in a few days. Does this mean that the original beta has lost it’s status as ‘the’ beta- if it has- what title does it then assume?- ghost of beta? And what happened to alpha? Does beta come after something- would it not be after alpha? But alpha never gets a mention. Are you allowed to bring an app out if it is in the beta stage?- because beta has a slight ‘factory seconds/rejects’ not quite ready sound about it.

I don’t care I’ll live with it all- just let me have it- any flaws included. Christmas Eve- here’s my tenner- let me have it :#

Still a few days to go until Christmas so I have no doubts he'll make it ;)
(Good news is that I've NOT been able to crash the latest build so it looks like he squashed the buggers).

  • @Samu is it going to be compatible with ios 9?

  • OK pre-ordered my copy in the UK AppStore :)

  • Dates slipped to 26th Dec now on the pre order in UK store happy boxing beats day!

As your testing this little beauty @Samu, is this similar as the classic Roland MC Groove boxes?....... I hope so?...... From the YouTube videos, it looks simular to the iSpark app, but with far better scope of sequencing & FX & better sounds? ;)

Sorry, I meant better Sounds & FX.

  • Is the price going up the day of release, unless you preorder?

  • edited December 2017

Does anyone know if you can actually do anything with your samples in Grooveroder (a la Korg Vancouver ) once you’ve imported them? Is there a manual yet?

That's a good question. Would make sense there's some incentive/reward.....

  • It says “Christmas offer” on the App Store info so I presume until Boxing Day or the new year for the discount price

As far as I know but on non iOS11 devices you'll have to use iTunes to import user samples.
On iOS11 you will be able to use Files.app to import samples to GR.
(Ie. just save the files from another app to the GR folder in Files.app and they will show up, no extra import/export dialogues are available at the moment but may come in an update).

I may have to fence sit with you on this one. I’ve lost count the amount of beat box style apps I’ve bought and I don’t use anymore.

I love the look of it, but even at half price, it’s probably a waste of money when I’d actually make more with £10 worth of sample packs for apps I do use like BM3 and iMPC Pro2.

I know this is a completely different app, but as @MonzoPro says, these apps live and breath on how easy they are to use. If you can’t just whip a tune up without any need for a manual, these apps often start to gather virtual dust!

If I had a more flush month, I would just buy it to support the dev.

To my ear the effects are quite similar in quality to those found in Poison-202 so if you have that it'll give you a taster. The included samples are pretty neat and if more is needed one can always import... :)

I'd say it beats the classic boxes but those who prefer hardware buttons over touch-screen might disagree...
GR to me is more a 'performance groovebox' rather than a song-writing tool. If needed patterns can be chained.

It's very easy to loose track of time when using it...

You can automate start/end and enable loop in a similar way to Vancouver.
There's no separate 'sustain loop'. It's loop between start/end just like on the Volca Sample.

You've also got a filter with envelope and an insert effect to play around with.

The 2 knobs that are used for tweaking can be switch between 'start & end' and 'decimate & boost(distort/overdrive) but not at the same time.

Sample's can also be 'pitch corrected' (just set the length in bars and the pitch will be adjusted to match the tempo, it's classic 'tape machine style' tempo adjustment).

There's no real 'time-stretch' and slicing is done manually with start/end/pitch per slice.

I have no doubt Jim will be adding more features in an update...
