Too bad, there are allot of them on craigslist

Digitakt connected directly to an iPad via usb cable and its eight midi channes are controlling several ios synth in AUM. No interface needed (Digitakt is a class compliant usb interface).

This cable should work without any adaptors https://www.native-instruments.com/de/products/traktor/dj-accessories/bags-cases-and-control-media/pricing-usb-lightning-cable-for-z1-s2-s4/

Does the octa have anything similar to the control all feature, that's the one I couldn't live without?

You can kind of setup scenes/fader for ctr-all stuff. Not totally the same tho. But scenes/fader is way more flexible for that type of thing in general. If you dig ctr-all you would LOVE scenes ;)

Dammit. Nice work. You people are killing me.

  • Is this actually a lightning to printer type usb cable? With all he trouble there’s to be had with non genuine CCKs does this actually work universally? It would be great if it did.

    Same question, same hope.

  • Best if you go CCK route so you can charge your iPad at same time.

This cable is lightning to usb type b (printer). Haven‘t tested it myself but its made to connect Traktor dj to an ipad. I‘ll order one this week.

Whoa. I had no idea this was possible.
I have a Cck and an iPad. I’m about to go try this.

ok im trying it. how exactly did you do this? I have the cck and am trying in now. can't seem to get it to work

Okay, so the Digitakt doesn't do multi-audio out. Have to wait for Overbirdge for that. So the USB/CCK would send one audio track combined of all eight audio tracks and eight MIDI tracks to the iPad? I don't understand then how it can be used as an interface.

Edit: Actually, there is a thread on Elektronauts about this very topic.

I also use a Digitakt with my iPad. Boy does it freeze often though when using the MIDI sequencer. Probably because I'm sending MIDI in and out of the machine. Hope the next update resolves some of these problems.

The reason I use a Digitakt because it's a nice place to write midi patterns to so I can clock AUM (not really just sending notes) to my external synths. I started using Navichord too for sending midi out of the iPad to the Digitakt to various MIDI Channels of iPad and external synths.

Are you using a cck? I bought a lightning to usb cable to connect ipad and digitakt directly. Nothing happens when I connect both :(

  • Yes I'm using a CCK, from my understanding it's best to use the official Apple products only.

  • Interactive Digitakt to play with on this page... :)

  • So far I've been all in-the-box, 100% computer/iPad production ...but so many interesting hardware options are calling my name lately. Especially Synthstrom Deluge and the elusive Neutron.

I'm interested in the deluge myself, actually put in an order for one but then had to cancel as the sampling workflow is not ironed out yet, but it's close. There have been good updates, I'm thinking another 1 or 2 and I'll be ready to get in on the fun.

sampling on the digitakt however is so much fun, elektron were crazy to not make it stereo and not allow more sample time and more sample storage, you can spend all day on the thing easily just mangling samples.

I don’t really have an issue with the amount of sample time. I certainly haven’t run out yet.

  • I can run out easily mangling samples.... layer upon layer upon layer etc..., the mangling simply never stops on the digitakt.

  • My guess is that elektron will update the Digitakt firmware one day to support stereo recording and sample support.
They might have chosen to do mono only to get people excited enough to purchase an Octatrack 2, but in fact the Digitakt has its own fangroup and its retail price is just at the border of what many younger musicians are able and/or willing to spend.
Even with Stereo samples on the Digitakt, the Octatrack still plays in a different league with enough reasons to get one too.
I wouldn't use stereo samples often but when I needed to, I'd appreciate the option :)

Wow. They've really expanded the number of available firmwares. It's like a hardware version of the StreamByter app.

  • Wrong time for this post. There is a pretty consistent stream of them going through San Francisco Bay Area craigslist ad about 625/650 USD.

I got the Digitakt's audio outs running through my Digitone, this gives me chorus and two additional delay & reverbs, plus the gnarly master dist/overdrive on the Digitone. But since the Digitone is so great at making drum sounds, I miss the sidechain comp on the Digitakt. I really want the Digitakt to duck the kick (and whatnot) on the Digitone. Elektron needs to add stereo thru and let us assign the sidechain to the audio input on the Digitakt for that to happen. I’d be happy with just being able to run the Digitone thru the comp on the Digitakt, that would work wonders on Digitone beats. I know, just sample it, but nah :|

I think the next beat machine that elektron makes is going to be amazing, something between the digitakt, octatrak, and mpc.... the hardest part is already done in the digis sequencer I'm already saving me pennies

Ducking? What about envelopes and conditional triggers on the Digitone?
On these guys, there are often multiple ways to achieve the same result.

Using trigless locks to simulate ducking on either machine would just be such a hassle though (yes, I’m lazy that way). Either way tho, the Digitone would be super happy to borrow the Digitakt comp, and so would I

The Digitakt is outselling most stuff out there. I think they’ll want to hang on to that market. Taking all the best parts from octatrak and rytm, make a really beefed up sampler/beat/drumsynth etc thing though? It might cut down on sales, dropping a machine completely, but what do I know. I want an A4 with 8 voices, 24 velocity sensitive keys/triggers (as opposed to 12 static), and a joystick. Or another keys:(.
