It seems as if you can easily zoom in on a sample once it's already chopped, though, which is one kind of baffling drawback to the DT.
Is the workflow different than typical Elektron? I have AK & AR, end even though I know/understand the workflow, project/sound management, even the advanced sequencing, I almost never use them. IT just feels like there's too much overhead to get immediately inspired. I know a lot of people/artists feel the same, but for some reason people go apeshit over the Digitakt, when it seems to me my Rhytm is "better" but people can't give them away on Reverb or eBay vs. original price. An ARMkI is always on there for sub-$800... That's NUTS vs. the performance and sound capabilities of that thing.
I don't own either the rytm or the octa but what I hear repeatedly is that the digitakt is more immediate, accessible, and people say it sounds better as well... from the looks of it Imo it just seems like a better balance might have been struck between form and function, but like I said just an opinion.
They are all cool. As a standalone box, the rytm 1 kills the digitakt. More tracks, awesome internal sounds, individual outs, performance pads, scenes, song mode etc. The mk1 screen sucks though.
The digitakt is better as a limited rytm with midi sequencing, smaller, and a control all button so you can easily filter the master. For ipad musicians the digitakt is the better choice imo. Digitakt plus aum is a winner.
But octatrack is king. As standalone groovebox to ipad controller to looper, just phenomenal. It does have it’s learning curve but you can focus on individual tasks and get up and running fairly quickly. I probably only use a small percentage of it’s magic and even that bit blows my mind.
It’s reverb isn’t the best but it has an aux send and i got pedals.

I literally lusted for a Digitakt but the fact that it's not battery powered and doesn't do chords, without growing white hairs was a major downer for me.
I got a Synthstrom Deluge and I'm pretty happy!
Fantastic. I should take the time to set up the beatstep to work like this.
The Deluge is the best device out there, as far as I’m concerned.
So, IYHO, you'd take the Deluge heads up instead of the Digitakt if offered?
So, really, you're asking for the digi not the octa?
Totally damn brilliant. Also wish I had this barbershop round the corner.
the deluge and the digitakt are soooo different though especially in feel, watch the up close workflows, outside of the fact that 'steps' are present they are quite dissimilar.
I'm hoping the Deluge dev implements some in depth follow actions cause if he does we'll finally have the perfect hardware version of a self contained monome.... I think the deluge and the digitak make a good combo because of their differences.
the digitak on the other hand is so fun that it's the only beat machine I keep with me at all times even though I had to get a mini external 6hr battery to make it portable.... it's just a very fluid instrument and strangely enough is a fav for a lot of ambient artist.
YES!
The Deluge has a very powerful synth engine which can also load TIMESTRETCHED samples as oscillators. And in the next update they'll add looping so if you fancy granular stuff... that's your thing. Also they're treating the pads as a low res big display for the waveform.
And you'll be able to load multisamples. So if you're like me and you have your Maschine library on your SD card, you can load up a whole instrument folder and the Deluge will map the samples automatically.
Also they're adding record performance to arranger, like Ableton has
They definitely make a good combo, but I'm kind of a one box at a time guy. I don't like to be hooked to my desk to make music. I'm tired of sitting in front of a computer at work.
I like taking the box, whatever that is and make music in a quiet place.
Appreciate the insight (AND the enthusiasm )
I'm the same way, every morning at 5am I'm on the roof with the digi, hiking with the digi, or having tea somewhere with digi lol
not me
my battery looks like this but it's a different brand
sounds like a killer update
@kobamoto Wow. I didn't realize you could get 6 hours out of a battery that size. Have a link to your battery? Would you recommend it? How long does it take to charge?
All I can think about when watching this is "That guy hiked up there in flip flops???"
One of my favorite Elektron operators Miles Comos doing a remix then talks about the digitakt.
sure thing, this is the video of the exact battery I've got and this is what I used to get instructions on how to charge. I got it on amazon, however I can't find a link to one on amazon right now but others do come up, I don't know if it's been replaced or not.
I think my favorite thing about the digitakt is that the architecture allows you to take any kind of risk you want when playing live and recover effortlessly if it doesn't work out.
Please add this into the next Life update. Thx.
this workflow will either excite you or make you kill yourself..... check it.
he heard you wanted an LFO, so he put an lfo in your lfo
