I think that YouTube has a lot of BM3 videos, more of the same?
More sales of content maybe, but not the App.
Yeh bm3 is a bit of a departure from those daws you mention. A lot more like ableton and also like it's own instrument. Also reminds me a little of elektron and modular now that we have rozetta. Not the best option for many users right now but eventually it'll possibly be top of the pile for both kinds of user if the rate of refinement and addition continues. Even if you don't use it now maybe you'll come back to it down the line
BM3 is a sampler/masher delight. But yah, if that is not your thing then others may easily be better for you. Now that Cubasis recently got AU parameter recording/automation via the AU UI that is a huge win and was a BM3 only thing.. for a few months anyway, heh. I still like the Cubasis audio track 'five point editing' a lot. I really hope BM3 catches up in that area as that is the only thing in Cubasis that really calls me back to it at times.
That actually makes sense. I hope this works then.
The thing is, if you were going out to buy some hardware kit, and you weren't into sampling, you wouldn't go out and buy a sampler. Why is it any different on IOS? Software or hardware, buy the tools you need for the job you want to get done. You don't buy a drill to saw a piece of wood. I bought BM3 because i wanted to produce music with a specific set of tools, and i have to say it does it very well, and i find the workflow really intuitive. The thing is i have worked with stuff like this before, so kind of new what to expect. You can't really criticize something for not doing what you want it to do, if you havn't done a little bit of research about what it does first.......not having a go at you, but just trying to provide a little perspective, that's all .................
I don't need the Internet. I make my own sample packs. It was just a thought for anyone who bought BM3 that they could of got it free considering the app is free now.
Who’s going to pay £40 for an app that was free the week before?
Answer = no-one.
Unless the master plan is to turn it into another BM3/Groovebox/Auxy subscription/soundpack hell experiment.
The insufferable human condition can be like a den of vipers seething at the mouth at the proclamation of good fortune of others...less we forget to value and respect one another.
I fear this is the way BM3 is going. It will be subscription based which I am not big fan of.
This is the only thing, that makes sense. Content. Is this the new model.
Someone who missed the deal but still needs the package because of its features rather than because its cheap.
No, I wasn't happy. But the world doesn't revolve around me. Apple can't cater to me personally. I just did what adults do---either stick with what I bought, or buy the new model. I chose the latter.
In the weird App Store system, Intua does what they think is best for their product. If giving away BM3 for free for awhile works better for them, that's fine with me. Other people benefiting from a free app is also fine by me.
They won’t though will they. They’ll wait until it’s free again, or buy something else.
Do you work for their marketing department?
I wish IMPC pro2 went free instead
Just concerned about it backfiring. Like if everyone that was vaguely interested in buying it or planning to buy it..or people that would have bought it in near future after hearing of updates.. If they're ALL grabbing it for free this weekend. And then everyone else decides to forever be waiting until it's free again. Then intua go bust or resort to subscription...
I don't mind that other people are getting it free. Doesn't affect me. Only concern is there being a future for the app and the pricing model.
No point stressing about it for now though. Like I mentioned before, I'll occasionally be jamming on BM3 with all my nieces and nephews from now on when I visit them. Good times
If BM3 goes subscription I just can't see myself using any of the alternatives on iOS so I would pony up. If it means they would be catering to hard core users more and have a more consistent revenue stream with which to plan updates/other platforms etc. then it works for me.
Oh man... it would be sweet if they had Sounds.com integration in app. Yum! Oh wait, that is Native Instruments, heh, nevermind.
I get where you’re coming from, but I also don’t think it’s that punishing. It’s based around NAMM, and for only 3 days will they be offering it for free. Were it a week or more, around any given holiday, perhaps something less appropriate of a venue to promote such an offering than NAMM, then I could get on the same page. But for now, I really don’t see this move having any effect on the perceived value they’ve established with BM3. Just as the $12 beer I purchased at SXSW which I then found its siblings being passed out freely to the masses. The value was intrinsic to the benefit.
The risk of a lot new "free" users can also be end in much more support for a free app for people which even are not very interested in such an app but will give it even bad reviews in the store if they get some trouble.
Another thing is that not only the value of the app itself could sink but also people might see now IAP as too expensive as well. Sound designers and content creators might be not pleased too.
But of course it could be also a better way in the iOS market where most people in general doesn´t seem to be interested and/or willing to pay a higher price for a specific tool which is not for the masses.
It´s not extreme like with those freemium games and all the stupid IAP and coins, gems and whatever but it goes in such a direction.
I´m not sure if a desktop market could be handled since it needs much more support, better copy protections and more marketing, tutorials and stuff.
Then there is the border in my mind to pay 10 times more for more or less the same tool, wherever i use it.
Since a while these all let me think that the iOS music app market is even worse than i thought.
I agree with this thinking. I own something, from here on out everything that happens either improves/supports what I own or doesn't. Strategically or from a game-theory perspective, this is more likely to be to my benefit.
I would be surprised if this all due to shift to subscription.
It could work for many apps, like gadget, auxy - closed systems - but I can't see how it could work with somethimg that is made to put in your own content. Was INTUA known of its content on previous versions? I think it was the opposite, users asked for the content to become optional and INTUA delivered that.
Yah, it is likely a good idea to get it in the hands of as many NAMMers as possible and raise awareness not just among users but also peers/biz folk/media.
Sounds cool.... if they go subscription I delete - period!
That’s a fair point. But i don’t think it will. The app is of high quality and anyone who missed the Free Namm Days offer and sees it in the future will probably be interested in it because of the future praise it will receive from more users sharing their love for the app.
This is just a calculated and strategic marketing move and i respect @mathieugarcia of Intua for having the guts to do this.
4 days of going hungry to feed potential artists out there who are on the cusp of potential greatness. I know we’ll hear many stories in the near future of how this offer unlocked someone to create the next great indie album, or gave them the tools to truly soar as a musician.
When we give of ourselves for others great things manifest in the world.
Unfortunately, much as i love BM3, i fear if it goes subscription, you may find yourself being in a club of one.. There is no way that i will ever pay a subscription for any software on any platform.. The simple reason for this, is, that i couldn't possibly afford it. I have been making & recording music since before the rise of the computer, and i can easily re-invent how i do it, without being in monthly hoc to a bunch of software developers. ( much as i respect their amazing products ). I can use hardware kit to produce music just as easily. I only got on-board the ios platform for the ride......i can just as easily get off again..........
Pretty sure it would be more than me.
LOL, no doubt!
@mathieugarcia said “Let's face it, the paid model is dying.”
Interesting statement. Wonder what this actually means.
Is it in general, or is for BM3 only/in particular?
Has the paid model died since BM3 came out?
So what, then? Forced subscription? For customers who already paid for the app?
We’ve seen it before. Going from paid model to Freemium. Not good for the first movers.
Oh, well. Exiting times we live in. Not particulaly nice, but exiting.
Guess we’ll have to wait and see.
And react accordingly.
Yeah it's nice to think that BM3 will end up in lots of kids'/teens' hands now that it maybe wouldn't have before. Very cool from Intua
I remember driving to buy an 8 track tape deck when I was a kid. Dude ended up giving it to me for nothing. So I had enough money to buy enough mics to start recording bands. Dunno if I ever would have got to that stage otherwise, most of my money was going on partying at the time
Generous from intua. Hope it works out great for everyone!
See what this subscription thing did to Sonar (Cakewalk)?
So the logic is:
I need BM3 features today
Last week it was free
So I buy something else at the same price, which won’t fulfill my needs because BM3 isn’t free right now
You sold me
