This Korg Wave news is jolly good news, I’ll say. However, the timing…

I’ve just finalised (using the industry-standard value for ‘finalised’) all of my music – 10 songs – for my forthcoming album, and back late last year when I finally came back to Gadget after wasting a few months trying this new-fangled “AU” stuff (which I simply could never get working and most of the work simply kept disappearing), I also did some of the song composition on Korg Wave. I didn’t do full songs on Wave, because the sequencer isn’t as sophisticated in the way I require, so I exported patterns as audio and brought them into Gadget into the wartime tape-recorder thing.

Do I now remake the Wave patterns in Gadget natively, or leave the Wave imported audio as is? I’m inclined to the latter, especially if the results will be identical.

    Remixes ?

    Not interested.

Not good. I would buy EVERY APP for years.

But I feel like some new apps or features use the logic of people like me auto buying for an infinity.

    Not so much.

NOT SINCE Abu Dhabi has there been a exciting upgrade to Gadget.

    Still no audio edit?

    No AU?

I mean, I am tired of posting the requests and needs for the app.

    Korg gives not a fuck.

So, I no longer give a fuck when dealing with Gadget.

    Sad....

Hey, what's kamata with you? I like these new gadgets a kings-ton! I know we'd all be glad-stone to see some better hel-synch-i with other apps, but development isn't lon-done yet. Who knows, though? Maybe I just have stockholm by reason syndrome...

Got any game for how to reset midi learn for transport in Gadget @LucidMusicInc ?

Best I can reckon is to assign it to another control and then assign that control to something else :#

I was afraid you’d say that. For whatever reason Korg isn’t letting me reassign them consistently. Also can’t connect my Nanokey Studio by usb connection. Lots of stuff acting wierd now. May have to delete and reinstall.

Shame. Roli lightpad and loop block is an excellent controller for Gadget once you have instrument saved to the device.

Have you used Roli controllers with Gadget lately @echoopera ? If so, any issues midi learning transport?

  • Nice to have the Wazzap Gadget or whatever it is, but the Osc waveform controls - Position and EG Int seem to be grayed out on mine. Anyone else? Two of the banks of waves seem to be locked as well...

Thanks for your detailed description. That’s what I figured. For sounds alone, we’ve already got everything covered in the 30 synth/key gadgets.

Feel free to show us how to do proper wavetable synthesis with the other Gadgets ;)
I mean not even the Korg hardware flagship like the Kronos does wavetable synthesis...
...so when it comes to Korg the Electribe Wave is pretty 'unique'.

Sure we can all get a bit bitter at times for lacking or missing features but the majority of the user base seems to be happy with Gadget as is?!

We really don't know what Korg is cooking and the Warszawa Gadget was pretty un-expected, sure it was vented here that it would be nice to have it as a Gadget so even if Korg doesn't reply they do monitor this forum.

Apart from a few Module IAPs my Gadget installation is 'complete' and as a source for sounds it's hard to beat...

Well said, I grabbed KEW just for the wave table gadget, no interest before really but it’s a different story now that it’s inside gadget. It inspired a new song that was finished pretty fast so well worth it already and it’s 50% anyway...

I’d say the majority of music producers don’t even know or care what wavetable synthesis is... they just want to launch an app, turn some knobs and do some light sound design and make music.

Isn’t wavetable synthesis super popular right now? Like the most popular.

  • Been a few months since I've opened Gadget for any serious work. Man...have I been missing this great app. Really loving where Gadget 2 is on the platform.

Here's a little lunch time jam using a lot of Abu Dhabi, Warszawa, Bilbao and some Salzburg to set the mood.

I guess it really depends on the type of music you’re producing. But if you’re serious about production, WTS is cute but not necessary to make strong or innovative music. There are loads of non-WTS apps and plugins out there that producers are using from every genre to make hit records. And if you’re into house, tech house, or techno, these synths would be used probably less than 5% of the time.

Thanks. No. Drums were from London and samples in Bilbao.

    Very Nice vibe dude!

Could you do a quick track using keys only from Warszawa so we could check out its range?

  • KEW/Warszawa does add unique stuff to Gadget. Sound of the Wavetables combined with the osc mod (sync, xmod, vpm, narrow, reflect) result in all kinds of sounds. From mellow/round to crunchy/rough digital.
Ability to modulate the fx with the lfos gives interesting results.

Soundwise it obviously reminds me of other wavetable synths like PPG, nave. But also synths like TX81Z and Casio CZ serie.

Quite the opposite, those genres in particular use wavetable synths like there's no tomorrow...

I was a bit disappointed to see Wave’s drum sampler missing, though I guess they figured it’d be redundant with all the other drum samplers in Gadget.

Loved the sounds in the two new romplers, especially Ebina, but I wish they’d throw the more advanced users a bone once in a while — maybe a more advanced sampler (ala Simpler) or add some IAP effects / EQ ..

  • The real surprise of this update was the new metronome in KEW. But honestly I don’t care about anything Korg until they add new sounds to iKaossilator or do something interesting with that. I don’t really need Gadget sounds when I have NS2. But I love me some iKaossilator style composing and frankly I would be thrilled if that interface were connected to every synth and every daw.

  • So the KEW gadget has no drum patterns period?

  • I would say avoid the two new gadgets unless you really get a nostalgia hard on for old Sega/Taito arcade cabinets. I bought both because I have a mental illness but I don't see myself ever really using either. Otorii is essentially a $10 sample pack, the UI is cute but the samples are just kinda meh. If you really want them, you can probably find them for free and import them into Bilbao. Ebina is slightly more useful but TBH I'm not opening Gadget to design sounds (I'll use one of the many better-sounding iOS synths for that) and tweaking the presets just didn't do much for me. I get that these are the actual sounds from the actual games so from a historical standpoint I guess it's neat but from a making music in 2019 standpoint I'd pass. Warszawa was a welcomed surprise tho. Probably one of the better sounding synths in Gadget IMO.

It’s wonderful that you’re one of the few users out there who relishes in the fine details of features. But for most of us, we just want to make music and we are limited in time.

I mean not even the Korg hardware flagship like the Kronos does wavetable synthesis...
...so when it comes to Korg the Electribe Wave is pretty 'unique'.

So Milpitas doesn’t do wavetable synthesis? I thought that was how it was marketed.

Sure we can all get a bit bitter at times for lacking or missing features but the majority of the user base seems to be happy with Gadget as is?!

I’m not too sure about that.

We really don't know what Korg is cooking and the Warszawa Gadget was pretty un-expected, sure it was vented here that it would be nice to have it as a Gadget so even if Korg doesn't reply they do monitor this forum.

I don’t care if they reply, I don’t expect them to. Like I’ve said repeatedly, their devs have their hands tied by short-sighted management. That’s what happens at old school companies.

Apart from a few Module IAPs my Gadget installation is 'complete' and as a source for sounds it's hard to beat...

Yeah, definitely have enough sounds, we agree on that. They need to think beyond sounds.

    @caspergomez have u tried Caustic?

That is a pretty good alternative to Gadget albeit without the polish.

Maybe for the musical prog-house and melodic techno.

But go to Beatport and search Tech and Techno Top 100’s, most tracks are still drum-driven grooves with some stabs, baselines,
vocal snippets, and FX sprinkled in. None of this relies on WTS. Trust me, I’ve been in these genres for 20 years. Even the deadmau5 relies heavily on simple drums, analog synths, and catchy patterns and melodies.

The fact that Electribe is WTS matters not if the sounds that it generates sound like a variety of what we already have...

True, I haven’t bought or used it yet, but from the snippets I’ve hear on YT, I’m not excited.

  • @caspergomez have u tried Caustic?

No, I’ve been messing with BM3 and still using KG. 🙄 too many unfinished tracks to let go.

  • Just noticed some new demo songs:

Some of them using Gadgets like Lexington, Lisbon etc.

Except #17 gives an error when trying to load it.

I’m guessing that Korg taking an gamble on the potential of iOS music making long ago was a big factor in convincing other companies to follow suit.

Gadget has had a ton of updates and features added for free, these criticisms seem a bit harsh.
