And if you’re into house, tech house, or techno, these synths would be used probably less than 5% of the time.

Quite the opposite, those genres in particular use wavetable synths like there's no tomorrow...

Maybe for the musical prog-house and melodic techno.

But go to Beatport and search Tech and Techno Top 100’s, most tracks are still drum-driven grooves with some stabs, baselines,
vocal snippets, and FX sprinkled in. None of this relies on WTS. Trust me, I’ve been in these genres for 20 years. Even the deadmau5 relies heavily on simple drums, analog synths, and catchy patterns and melodies.

The fact that Electribe is WTS matters not if the sounds that it generates sound like a variety of what we already have...

True, I haven’t bought or used it yet, but from the snippets I’ve hear on YT, I’m not excited.

    https://www.masterclass.com/articles/how-to-use-deadmau5-vst-plugin-serum-for-songs-like-i-remember

You are incorrect, modern producers in the genre you mentioned and more are using wavetable like crazy

I’m not gonna sit here and debate what deadmau5 uses. If you think Serum is what he generally uses than you’re mistaken. He did that simply to promote their product.

Like I said, TECH house and TECHNO are drum-driven genres... simply go to beatport top 100. Melodic house/techno is pulling more sounds and using synths including WTS.

But all this is irrelevant anyway, because good music doesn’t need WTS and that’s been proven over and over and your average listener and producer wouldn’t be able to discern a WTS sound or NON-WTS in the final mixdown in your average dance track. It’s just another thing to make some people feel warm and fuzzy.

Wavetable synthesis turned 40 this year. Happy anniversary Wolfgang Palm! Still pushing the envelope 🙂

It’s been used all over the place in many classic songs across all genres.

Not sure why the Beatport top 100 has any connection to a nice Gadget update?

  • edited August 2019

I also don't care too much about WTS but no one is forced to modulate the Waveposition anyway.Without this modulation (or gentle use) are still countless of more or less static waves left that goes far beyond the well known sine/saw/triangle/square combo.Lot of sounds that steps into FM or PM territory.Quite usable for all kinds of (dub)Techno chords for example. And that's definitely something many house/techno producer uses...

It does, bc I’ve been challenged on its use in Tech and Techno which I’m arguing is rarely used and providing evidence via Beatport’s Top100 Tech and Techno charts.

  • Great new track @echo

  • Also, deadmau5’s signature sound via Strobe and The Veldt, two of his best melodic works, came about pre-Serum in ‘10 and ‘12 respectively along with many other tracks that set him up to be the highest paid DJ in the world, all without WTS. I’m simply saying... it’s cool to have some new stuff, but if the stuff is pretty much more of the same then I don’t see the point. SERUM was a completely different beast when Duda launched it, and nothing like it at the time.

  • That was a cool update to kew man, it's a really fun synth with lots of awesome automation tools in the groovebox, but playing it in gadget just makes it a bit simpler to play, cuz.. Gadget.
Also went ahead and picked up iwavestation as a token of gratitude for this and cuz I've wanted it for at least a year lol... Gadgetized iwave is pretty dang cool, messing with it a bit before work

So the KEW gadget has no drum patterns period?

    Correct. Just the synth.
Really doesn't matter, since most of the drums in KEW sound like they came from Gadget anyway.

I think variation is a good thing...timbre...texture....sonic potential

I love how some "experts" here proclaim that Korg is going in the wrong direction.

I suspect they are one of the most successful developers on iOS with people buying, using and enjoying their apps all around the world.

Korg may not be going in the direction you want, but that doesn't mean they have lost their way.

I’m clear about what their way is... same direction since 2015... continue to Gadgetize their hardware. That’s pretty much it.

  • Thanks Wim! I pulled out Gadget and got me going again😌 Only thing is that I really wanna use Xequence 2 to record the midi but I wish I had a template.

Has this happened for anyone with the OTORII gadget? The gadget itself appears missing when you bring it up to use it...

Exact same issue here. Anyone else?

Ah I think I know what happened, KEW and KVR are easily confused.

Good luck with the pistols at dawn 🤣

Been a few months since I've opened Gadget for any serious work. Man...have I been missing this great app. Really loving where Gadget 2 is on the platform.

Here's a little lunch time jam using a lot of Abu Dhabi, Warszawa, Bilbao and some Salzburg to set the mood.

    https://soundcloud.com/policarpo-wood/when-the-day-lets-go-again

    Very Nice vibe dude!

Could you do a quick track using keys only from Warszawa so we could check out its range?

Thanks for giving it a listen and nod :) Not sure what you're asking...but hopefully there's something in the playlist I shared earlier...I embedded the entire playlist, so you should be able to scan through it to see if the sound suits you...

    https://soundcloud.com/policarpo-wood/sets/korg-electribe-wave

    Cheers!

You make some very cool, vibey tracks!! Are the sounds you’re using close to presets or you’ve done a lot of sound designing? How about the 1/16 note delay/repeater, etc.. can you do all that in Warzsawa? Definitely a much more interesting display of its capabilities than some YT vids I’ve seen of user running through random presets.

I’ll check out the other tracks in a bit. I meant to ask, could you do a track only using WAR sounds so we could see if Electribe is worth buying?

  • I really like the two new ones and KEW is really fun. The only gadgets I have left are the module ones. I haven’t grabbed those yet because I use m1 for a lot of that but I’m sure the module ones are incredible

All my sounds are based off of the existing presets. I’m just a knob noodler. I fiddle until i find something which resonates with me at that moment.

Just noticed some new demo songs:

Some of them using Gadgets like Lexington, Lisbon etc.

Except #17 gives an error when trying to load it.

I got a duplicate of the #17 track, without the “quotes” in the name which worked fine. Just delete the one that doesn’t work, I think it confused the file system with invalid characters in the name.

  • Since this new update it made me re-examine Gadget (which admittedly I do with every gadget update). This time I treated it completely different and loaded it up with a bunch of one shots and single cycle waveforms. With that it really changes the experience, the sampler, while not super deep allows for some experimentation. I’m traveling and unfortunately away from the studio a lot so, I think with the re-think it may allow a lot of creativity on the go.

  • We noticed that the Otorii display issue. We'll fix it soon. Sorry about that.

Yep. Did the same thing. Amazing how this thing plays when you use your personal flavors in Bilbao and AbuDhabi.

Nice to have the Wazzap Gadget or whatever it is, but the Osc waveform controls - Position and EG Int seem to be grayed out on mine. Anyone else? Two of the banks of waves seem to be locked as well...

Anyone else? Even after a reboot these two buttons are greyed out, and even assigning modulation doesn't have an effect. In the standalone these two knobs can be tweaked to scan the waveform.
