  • The ilemon has been performing flawlessly without cmemory ;)

cMemory works without a hickup on three iOS7 devices. Not one crash so far.But i am not using an iLemon, maybe thats the reason (sorry, couldn`t resist) ;-)

The iLemon is most likely the culprit, it being 64 bit system and all.

  • should have added that one of my devices is 64 bit (mini retina)

Well, we're both using the same hardware and software. Under settings in cMem you have various settings for how "aggressive" you want it to be, or if it should auto adjust etc. Those causes instability/weird behavior sometimes. Another thing is the readings on the iLemons (check the free RAM read-out in cMem on your rMini when doing a refresh, it's in negative numbers).

Sys Actitivity do give a much more constant result in how much RAM it'll "free" everytime you use it, whereas cMem can a bit all over the place. But as mentioned, whatever works best for you is what you should go with. :)

Edit: Btw what @Supadom says makes sence, the part about these activity managers sometimes closing 20-30 iOS processes and that potentially causing the device being unstable. I dunno why any would wanna use these apps live tho. I dunno....I use them sparsely for now.

  • It is interesting that most of people complaining about/referring to air as an ilemon don't actually own one.

Hm I haven't seen any that don't own one. But these people might have tried it out perhaps, or are just taking a look at the specs and how iOS 7 works. 1+1, black and white and all that..

This thread is massive so I apologize if this has been covered, but:

    1. Can Gadget mixdown a project for copying/pasting to another app?

    2. Is it possible to import your own samples into any of the drum or sampler gadgets? If not officially, then with something like ifunbox?

    Thanks guys.

Edit: After viewing some YouTube videos, my first question has been answered. And honestly, with the ability to use copy/paste AND Audiobus, I wouldn't really mind if Gadget doesn't have sample import, because I could just paste or AB my work from Gadget over to BM2 anyway. Going to buy this app now!

OK. Getting off topic but ...

So, I checked the comments on Sys Activity Manager. It's old - 2012 - no specific update for iOS 7 and many people say it crashes. I still haven't raided the piggy bank for my savings of $0.99 yet. Does it play nicely on an iPad with iOS 7.1 ? - thinking of IAA background app issues too.

I got it for free and never paid anything or the .99 cents and it works perfectly. Try it, it won't charge you anything.

Wow. It will charge you whatever the price AppStore is currently showing. You probably got the free version (which doesn't do the RAM thing), or caught the full version when it was on sale/free.

It will show any running IAA apps running, and it can kill those processes sometimes, not always though.

I can't see what is selling for cause I already have it. But it says in app purchases on the main description screen at the app store that it costs .99 cents to upgrade. I never had to upgrade. But it stil shows me all the current processes going on, and i have two options to free up memory 1. quick refresh or 2. deep refresh, both work, but usually use the quick one and it really does work. Really nice graphical view.

I suppose I'll get more curious about Sys Activity Manager when my IPad 4 starts to grind to halt, but for now I'm just happy that korg has improved the performance of Gadget.

I'm starting to think that all Gadget needs is a sampler gadget and audio tracks to have a real winning formula.

This is my latest Performance test with eleven live Gadgets on my IPad 4.

  • Really nice track. Great "pluck" and pad sounds that sounds awesome with the snappy/punchy beat and bassline. I was never a big fan of house tracks with piano&organs, but those last 2/3 of the track do sound better then most commercial "90s throwback" tracks I keep hearing. Keep'em coming!

  • Great work. Very nice mix of sounds.

100% agree - make the Amsterdam gadget capable of importing or pasting samples and I'll be in heaven. (..and midi clock sync would be an extra bonus)

yep, thats a very good point.i stopped using such Ram"cleaner"now.Makes one just paranoid with the"oooh, only 10% Ram left" thing.Although Safari crashes more often (i don't care, its just a browser) i rarely had low memory crashes with music apps. That said,i still don't use"everything"possible at once.

  • Thanks @ChrisG and @mgm4871 that Marseille Gadget was begging me to lay down a retro house riff on it.

  • I hooked up Korg Gadget to an iConnectMIDI2+ and controlled it with an Ableton Push, very powerful setup.

  • Made a contest entry today, chose the Gadget World Tour and "movie-fied" it. I'm home with a massive effin' headache and fever since I dropped my crack pipe the other day, but did for some weird reason pick up the iPad and started jotting away on the iPad screen with my two thumbs. So it turned out a bit cheap and monotonous, anyway just for fun so (and hopefully a little different take on that track)...

  • I think a sample of the crack pipe breaking would be a good fit here. ;-) I like it!

  • edited March 2014

I wrote crack pipe again? Ok then..Thanks funjunkie! By the way, am I the only one only getting tracks by @PaulB as suggestions from Soundcloud when stopping the above track? No complaints really, some really really nice music in there that I'm gonna listen to as soon as this fever/headache dies down a bit, I'm just curious as to how Soundcloud works when giving recommendations?

  • Not sure, but I've noticed that all my follow on songs in SoundClouds are @PaulB's too. I'm guessing he's a major stockholder. And no complaints, as he's got some great stuff there....I just thought it was odd.

  • Lol very weird. And Soundcloud couldn't possibly know I'm a @PaulB stalker, so that can't be it..

  • Really? Lol. I get my tracks recommended too, but I figured that was normal, seeing as I'm me...

  • That's funny because my follow on songs are PaulBs also. Maybe he's stalking us. Lol.

  • Really enjoying the hell out of this app. Yes, it's a bit limited, but the all-in-one aspect has enabled me to be more productive than ever. The excellent presets certainly provide useful starting points for putting together custom presets.

That said, I'm definitely looking forward to Korg adding audio tracks. Being able to use sound effects and atmospheres I create with iDensity and iPulsaret directly in Gadget would be great. Right now I export tracks from Gadget into Multitrack DAW and make final additions there.

Hopefully Korg adds the ability to import user samples into the London and Amsterdam gadgets. I'm sure they see the demand, as sample importing is part of nearly every drum machine app out there.

More send effects would be great. I'd really like sidechain compression to get that pumping/ducking effect (the "pump" in the Brussels synth only gets you so far).

  • Another thought: maybe the Bristol gadget that's mentioned in the Gadget app binary will be a sampler with beat chopping functionality? Seeing as Bristol is thought of as the home of trip hop...

  • It's also the home of the Eva Turner Opera Company...

  • Opera...trip hop...what's the difference??

  • Trip Hopera....its a winner

  • Can't wait for the next wave of Gadgets tbh....

Could you please open a seperate thread for gadget creations in the future?Safari still crashes a lot when i try to enter this thread.Happens ONLY in this thread.

  • Crabman, the last page (21) should work without any problems. There are only 4 soundcloud widgets. Admittedly a few more and it will get very unstable.

Creating other threads won't solve anything really I think. What this forum needs is a way to let the user disable widgets under their profile. It's a music creation forum, so there will obviously be a lot of soundcloud and other widgets (I can't enter that "your soundcloud" thread without my iLemon constantly crashing), so options to only show links instead of memory hungry plugins/widgets would be a great solution (if at all possible that is).
