  • a key change of a whole scene like in iKaossilator would be cool.

  • This completely insipid debate needs to get its own thread.

I've held off saying the dreaded word for far too long, and I will for slightly longer.

But, the thread title is "Korg Gadget", so maybe this complete dog turd of a spec conversation can go somewhere else?

I completely hate the idea of this forum turning into an idiotic dump like every other forum out there.

  • @AQ808

I'm afraid that's human nature. But here we're really only on a mission to get this thread over the 1000 mark. Take it easy ;)

  • @iansainsbury I agree totally with what PhilW said. It just all depends on how busy your tracks are. Under normal circumstances, the ipad2 does very well with Gadget. I'm very pleased with the performance all considered.

  • I'm sad to say but AQ808 is right.
I used to love this forum, because it was focused and gave very interesting information, like new software / hardware, problem solving tips etc... But for sometime people tend to make thread very long with not so interesting things. Words that add nothing new except repeating the same issues again and again. Jokes that 3 or 4 people here understand and laugh during 100 entries ?!?! why? you say it belong to the community but act as it is your own house. Please be polite and keep it short. If you have the urge then open a dedicated thread and I and many others will be happy to skip it.
Long live AudioBus, Good Synths/Effects apps and all you great musician out there.

  • ...and yet the more people jumping in to complain about the thread becoming offtopic, the more offtopic the thread becomes...

In real life communities, people interrupt with "irrelevant" thoughts all the time, yet conversation still continues. In many online communities, moderators will jump all over you the moment you veer from the topic- I like that this isn't one of those places.

To add to the "real" topic- unlike some other apps, Gadget actually performs really well on ipad2. Freezing/unfreezing is quick and easy, though I like that suggestion about freezing multiple tracks at once.

  • I have to disagree with @PaulB. I dislike lemons. I'm more of a lime-guy. ;-)

Sadly, I have to put it down to boredom. People get more of an adrenaline rush pursuing a pointless argument which can't be won by either party, than they do from being constructive and creating something because, when you create something, you might fail, and it will be due to your own capabilities, which many people simply can't handle.

These unproductive types who fear failure become permanent and useless forum trolls as that's the only way they can get their fix.

And they ruin forums with stupidity and an unrealistic belief in perfection, because they never actually tempt failure by actually creating something, though believe they would certainly succeed if they tried.

So, there you go, another post towards 1000, which is truly a "worthy" goal.

What is weird is I am not finding myself going to gadget all that often. I am using audiobus w/cubasis, drumjam, ielectribe, and a lot of my stand alone synths. Nave, Sunrizer and Thor and ISEM and the new Z3Ta+ take most of my time along with string and brass sound fonts from bs16i. I forget which is the yellow pad synth but that has become one of my favorite gadgets however.
With Ipads having so many issues due to poor updates I actually use my Korg M50 w/ karma software more often than not into reaper but of course karma has a lot more horsepower than anything available in the ios realm but still I love my ipad for working from my recliner or to take with me to a friends ect. Karma backing tracks into cubasis works well for me also. Hopefully this week will find me experimenting with gadget a bit more given how much I paid . I really should use it more.

    @AQ808

The actual goal was to cheer you up by cracking a joke but I failed miserably. We are musicians for gods sake, we laugh, we go off on tangents, we get creative, we get busy, we get bored, we procrastinate, first we fear failure, then we fail, then we don't, we scratch our butts and we tweak our knobs :). I'm of course writing on behalf of those who do that kind of stuff. Hey, I wonder what two of our favourite developers are up to?

Well done @Tritonman for trying to bring it back on topic :). I'm feeling buoyant, maybe because it is sunday in the UK?

I have been out shoveling a fresh 5 inches of snow on a cool crisp day, now that will get your creative juices flowing for sure. That and a little knob tweaking/ Gadget does have its fair share of knobs to tweak.
Wait/ creative juices and knob tweaking, am I getting back off topic, At least I am not using Stroke. Wait a minute, am I straying off topic again. Curse you Supa.

  • @Tritonman2

You better watch yourself! I wish we had a sprinkle of snow around here but it looks like you've got the lot this year.

Back to the subject ;-) Korg have dones some great things developing Gadget and the recent improvements esp. Audiobus are great...

So - what's wrong with this picture? ;-)

    image

Yup - we need landscape mode still. That's an iCM2+ connector plugged in there - and sure - I could rotate the iPad and use in portrait, but that means changing this rig from how it's setup for every other synth usage on the iPad.

Not complaining - just hoping that Korg does add this too!

  • edited March 2014

Landscape would be nice, definitely. They could just leave the synths as-is in the middle bottom or something, no need to redesign it all if that's what holding them back.

Another thing I noticed in the sequencer is that you don't need to use the annoying pinch to zoom in/out. Just put a finger on a bar and another finger on another bar, and it will snap the zoom level to the area between those bars. Or was this there before the update?

  • Thanks, Phil and Morris. I thought Gadget would prevent my adding new tracks after 5 with an ipad 2. Apparently not...excellent :)

  • @Kloon said:

Any online preset sharing for Gadget?

Bumping my own question! Is it even possible to load presets from the different synths via ifunbox?

  • I'm not aware of any @Kloon.

Thanks for that zoom tip @ChrisG...I wasn't aware of that.

Jumping in on this... I agree that gadget works great on my iPad 2 up to 8 tracks, but definitely only if the tracks either don't have a lot of midi data or aren't firing at the same time.

One of the main reasons I picked up Gadget was to use all the built in synths with a older tune of mine that I've sequenced before in Logic, and more recently in Cubasis. The tune has 2 keyboard parts, a drum part, a bass part, an and of 2 and 4 guitar part, strings, trombone, and trumpet. 8 parts total (all 8 bars long). (Using 8 synths, several of them are Marseilles.)

Not all parts playing at the same time. But the keyboard parts have pretty full chords and the bass part is pretty active. Even using freeze on all parts, Gadget is glitching when playing back the tune. Kind of frustrating.. But, I am glad that the update makes it easy to work w/ Cubasis in real time to audition sounds for the keys, bass, and drums as the arrangement builds forwards. So, still a win/win, for me. Looking forward to new iPad (I say 1000 times a day!!!)

But, for less fully orchestrated arrangements, I agree that the Gadget really handles things well on my older iPad.

  • Glitching when playing audio tracks, there must be some room for optimization there...

  • Dj8 Don't forget about the thread that discusses all the performance tweaks for ipad2. It really makes a difference.

Do you mean optimization of my iPad? I'm running a lot of tracks on Cubasis (after their recent update) and on BeatMaker 2, mix of midi and audio tracks, etc… with no such problems…

I think I'm covering them all: no other apps open, happens after hard reset, in airplane mode, all tracks frozen… What else am I missing?

  • edited March 2014

    .

  • 42 now actually. wink , wink.

  • Hahaha, I like this joint lol

  • Even if it glitches a bit on playback, it should still export cleanly...

True, but not usable for me when the glitching starts up… Causes too much distraction and too many interruptions. But, with the ability to run live w/ AudioBus out into a DAW, all is well! I can add new parts from Gadget w/out the glitching. Will do until iPad upgrade.

It's amazing but i am finding myself doing the same thing like you. I've been so hooked to Z3ta+. I really enjoy how awsome it truly sounds... I have also been using Caustic more as i find that for my needs either Caustic or Z3ta+ will be the main synths i will be using to play live at church. The only issues i still find with many of the synths is the inability to pin open the presets screen. I hope they can update this on Caustic and Z3ta+.
I still really like Gadget for making quick recordings and stuff, but the landscape view is badly needed at least for playing live.

  • @dj8 I mean optimization of Gadget, playing frozen audio tracks shouldn't be so performance intensive. Like you said, the hardware should handle it.
