It’s not the Pro label that misled me, it’s Apple false information such as :
iPad Pro “works on the level of a computer, even on a level higher”. - That’s exactly what Apple said on their site, at least here in Russia.
Sorry I have to repeat this because there seems to be many guys with reading issues,
Misrepresented? Your post complains that there isn't a pro DAW. The "pro" in the name doesn't imply "pro audio", and I don't think anything in Apple marketing implies as much.
It is always up to the consumer to do a bit of due diligence to see if a product meets their needs especially if the purchase will stretch one's budget.
I'm detecting a language barrier issue in expressing your complaints, so maybe your point is coming across more harsh than it needs be. Or maybe you are very, very young. But other than that, rest assured that everyone who has responded has read and comprehended your post completely.
You might consider that you are over-reacting because you feel like you've wasted money and you are upset. When not a single reply of many takes your side, the problem may not be Apple's advertising.
I'm not gonna go buy Lemonade Pro when I can just make it at home.
By pro DAW I meant an average computer DAW, which an average laptop can handle.
Apple marketing not only implies, but states that iPads Pro up to par with computers which is a lie. And the price I paid is comparable, so why are you so surprised that I expect comparable performance?
I’m detecting a troll.
Smells like you need a shower then.
Sigh
Funny how trolls use only emotional aspects and irrelevant information, when they can’t factually disprove something they don’t like to hear.
Yeah, that sounds like a straight-up lie.
Until you realize that the term “computer” is totally undefined.
They probably mean that “computer” you used in the early ‘90’s.
Oh come on that shower comment was a great zinger
Troll away.
You as well.
Or do you have a reading problem?
Troll away.
Read and comprehend advertising.
Get your refund.
Stop being a troll.
If you think just for a minute about it, you’d understand that it’s exactly because of prevalence of people with your attitude it’s quite hard to get a refund or make them work. I could explain why they couldn’t have meant a computer from the 90’s and give you many more misleading quotes like “you can do on it, whatever you usually do on your computer”, but what’s the point, you’ve already made your mind. Good luck!
Ok, I get that.
But what do you want then, for them to change their advertising?
You would still have been ripped-off already.
Refund is the only remedy for you, personally, it would seem.
Unless you are just campaigning against Apple here. That is going to be a tough sell on this forum, even though there are plenty of disgruntled customers amongst us.
I pretty much despise Apple as a company, and always have.
But I have never had such a great experience creating music on my own as with my second-hand iDevices. I mainly give credit to the music app developers, but I do realize Apple also has played a huge role in creating this opportunity or situation.
So, I distrust anything coming from Apple in terms of marketing/advertising. They are full of crap. Yet, I really like my iPad, and use it as a casual user. Using it for work would probably be frustrating. It just seems like a a personal, casual device despite what label they want to stick on it.
“ I bought a top of the line Ford car that they described as “luxury” in their advertising.
But they lied to me - a Rolls Royce is a true luxury car. Ford is lying to their customers. Their car is not like a Rolls Royce. So they are lying to their customers and to themselves...etc... “.
In this day and age is anyone so foolish to blindly believe advertising slogans and claims without doing their own basic research into the product to see if the product will meet their own particular needs?
I dunno, the fact that I can program, play, record, master and publish an entire music album, or create an interactive graphic novel , edit and print a series of 24mp Art Photos suitable for a Gallery, or create a billboard sized illustration directly on my iPad is pretty "Pro" to me.
At the end of the day, it is the artist, and not the tool which defines the "Pro-ness" of being
Why did you buy the iPad when you knew it didn’t have Logic or other “pro” apps.
original post is a bit harsh, but not that far from the truth. iPad Pro (though I love mine) has been a relative shit show and we know it 😁. I anticipate things will get better shortly though.
Logic Pro x would need a gui redesign...so it’s gonna be a minute...if it indeed happens
What’s more than likely to happen is GarageBand mobile will get more features.
Please. Stop the madness. iPad is literally on the precipice of being a self contained musical monster. Pair it with apogee or whatever your preferred interface and whatever your pro pre amps and mics are and you have a solid state hdd, Touchscreen, and pick your daw on the cheap. Beat makers? Only limit is your imagination once u unlearn your desktop/hardware origins and get in the flow with iPads way of doing things. The problem is so many people approach iPad expecting a desktop experience. It isn’t that. It’s iPad. Portable. Sleek. Touchable. Limited. Limitless. $100 never took a musician so far as iPad can. However, It isn’t for everybody, yet. Especially if u don’t want to respect the platform for what it is and instead expect it to be like surface pro or desktop in general. It isn’t that. It’s iPad. It isn’t perfect. But it’s the future. Get on board or get left behind. The scales are tipping. Fabfilter, Eventide and hopefully many more to come soon (I’m talking to you Waves and UAD). I’ll bet there’s nothing on desktop that isn’t producible on iPad with the availablity of the same samples. It’s quirky and wonky at times but it’s evolving. fast. Apples scamming nobody. Neither are developers. They are democratizing the arts for all in all categories, on the cheap btw. I could go on and on but what’s the point...If u know, u know!
@vov: It is up to a consumer to do some due diligence.
I am surprised to hear that someone interpreted the marketing as guaranteeing that you could literally do anything with an iPad Pro that you could do with a laptop and that there would be an iOS equivalent for every existing "pro" app. It is really hard for me to see those ad campaigns as being a scam or more egregious than most marketing.
If having Logic Pro or its equivalent was important to you, why not find out if it existed first?
iPad Pros are technologically pretty amazing but that doesn't mean that the software will be there to accomplish every possible task or take full advantage of the hardware.
There is loads of information out there about the state of music apps -- if having a desktop-like DAW is important to you -- you could have done some research.
I see myself using desktop for another decade. It's just so much easier and it makes me appreciate the iPad as a great sidecar/music toy a lot more. DAWing on them just sucks the joy out of me.
Guys don't listen to this asshole. In Russia, people are well aware of what marketing is. And do not complain to happy users on the internet.
Zaebal pizdet kozel
How many time you have, guys, to waste it in a dumb and childish question in dumb topic.
I surely did my due diligence and research.
I studied information provided by Apple, but unfortunately it was false, and by it I mean factually incorrect, and not that I was misled by some marketing epithets like you think.
There were also some apps and information about them that were misleading. Take Beatmaker 3 for example. It has beautiful interface, but it becomes very unstable just with a few good AU synths.
And unfortunately I didn’t came across any honest comparison disproving Apple claims that iPads Pro are a good substitute for laptops or even computers. Just look at how much “flame” do I get for simply stating those facts in this thread and how many people want to dumb down this topic. There’s quite a lot of misrepresentation.
I hope the information I provided will fill that void and be a warning to other people who consider an iPad Pro as a substitute for a laptop.
@vov when you were doing your research what stopped you from asking questions here before you purchased?
Most of us here just get on with making our own music and noises on these beautiful, imperfect machines.
I just think the information I provided should be freely available to anyone without asking.
That’s why I wrote it here.
OK, but if you had done a little research you would have easily found the AudioBus forum and plenty of people who could have advised you on whether it was a reasonable purchase. The folks here are generally pretty helpful when genuine questions are asked. As it stands you can either choose to work with what you have, and again, ask questions if you are not clear on anything or get a refund for your new iPad.
The iPad isn't exactly like a laptop but many of us enjoy how it works and benefits of great mobile devices for music making.
If you are staying, welcome to the forum but please keep it good humoured and you will get a lot out of the experience.
