Just curious, can Zebeats be used at all without an active internet connection?
I ask this since Zenbeats seems to have a mandatory log-in thing...

Also can it do time-stretch and/or pitch adjustments audio clips on the time-line?

Works on Airplane mode fine :)

Hmm, but what if there is no internet connection when launching the app?
I mean it does require a log-in when starting up right?

Or maybe it's one of those 'have to sign in at least once per month to re-fetch the current license key'.

Currently I'm just making room on my iPad Air 2 for tomorrows iPadOS13.1 installation...
(Yeah, It's app clean-up deluxe today and tomorrow).

I have only logged in once, so yeah, you probably need a connection for that one time, to verify your login and to be enable whatever IAP's you have etc, but when starting it up after that I have never re-logged-in. Just tried it with everything turned off, it lets me in just fine.

    Thanks, good to know! :)

  • So how does this compare to the likes of Auria, Cubasis and Nanostudio 2? On the surface the £14.99 unlock seems to be a good deal. What do you guys reckon about the workflow and the potential?

  • Can anyone tell me how to switch over all my purchased stuff from stagelight to this? It’s a long thread, sorry to ask, but I watched videos and just too much information to sift through for something I’m hoping should be a sentence. Thanks again

Well your unlucky about it being capable of being expressed in a sentence...

    http://us.openlabs.com/

The text of which is as follows, but there’s a couple of links you need to follow so it’s best to just click above.

Open Stagelight, click main menu, and select “Store.”
Spend remaining credits on Loops, Presets, or Features. Credits will not be transferred to Zenbeats.
Click the pencil icon to display your account information. Double-check the email address linked to your Stagelight account. You will need to use this address for the Roland Backstage account required for Zenbeats.
Click here and enter your email address to receive your custom key. You will receive an email with further instructions.
Download your key. Be sure to check your spam/junk folder if you can’t find the email.
Click here to create your Roland Backstage account. You must use the email address linked to your Stagelight account for your key to function.
Follow the prompts to verify your Roland Backstage account.
    Download Zenbeats. Click here
Open Zenbeats and sign in with your Roland Backstage account.
Click the “Store” icon to the upper right of the screen.
Click the “Redeem” button and follow the prompts to import your Stagelight key.

  • @wngwizard don’t miss the part which mentions that remaining credits must be spent cause they can’t be transferred, and don’t buy content that Roland hasn’t licensed (list on the end of the page)

  • @Michael_R_Grant ,you can download Zenbeats for free :)
Best way is to make a song and try out for yourself ! Bugs are mentioned in the previous page ;)

Well, the bugs described above aside, it has a great potential to be a very useful tool for me in the song creation/ideation process. It is (to my knowledge) the only IOS DAW that has such fluid process between scenes and regular timeline. Great way to try out various combinations before settling on any of them.

It does not (IMHO) have a mixer section that can rival the mentioned DAWs, so for mixing, mastering or using IAA (like Bias FX etc) you’d still need to move your tune elsewhere. However, unlike BM3 where I most often get stuck on the “how?” Zenbeats is quite quick at letting me get to work with creating tunes.

    Just my £0.02.

  • I’ve used Stagelight which I really got on well with, pretty intuitive, but was put off by the poor quality of the Time Stretching algorithm Open Labs were using, Roland are using a far better quality implementation in my view, I did an A/B comparison between Zenbeats and Stagelight for the quality of Time Stretched audio and Zenbeats won hands down, try it yourself

That’s good to know. I’ve found the SL fine for messy samples where it doesn’t really matter but never used it on anything more serious.

  • I think Roland are using a Time Stretch algorithm called Elastique if I remember, sounds pretty good to my ears

@Ozzy57 As far as I'm aware Elastique is the industry standard so should be better.

If you have pc/Mac you should definitely try Serato . It’s the new standard ;)

And generally speaking ZenBeats has the potential of being an Ableton iOS app . But it needs constant bug fixing / updating and lot of apps remained in the potential status .....

  • @MatthewAtZenbeats
It would be nice to load audio loop samples at the drum module.
That way we could abuse the step sequencer to mod pitch level etc ;)
Now as a workaround I freeze the audio loop and have to poke into the apps folder to find it.

    Hi Samu,
I just tried placing my iphone in airplane mode so no internet connection available. Launched Zenbeats and it worked perfectly! Only thing was that the store was unavailable.😌

I like this idea! Also any audio loop you drop into the Zenbeats User/Drum Kits folder, should show up in the drum sound browser. Try putting some loops in there and see what you can do.

  • Hello!
    I enjoy zenbeats so far.
Really fast to work with and intuitive.
Now i have a question does anybody know how i can select the length of a clip in the clipview.
    I can't find this function...

    Thanks
    Bo

It’s a 2 step maneuver (if you’re taking about midi clip)
    With clip open
Tap the minus button lower left to lengthen the clip
Slide the timeline marker at the top outward, lengthen to taste

That’s a feature request I support: long press menu on the clip could include a clip length option, so you don’t have to open the clip just for that.

  • Hi @MatthewAtZenbeats I’m trying to unlock the Mac version of stagelight before switching as I have $31 in credits to use. It’s not letting me checkout though. Is this because the shop is closed or is it still possible to buy credits?

Yes, a long press menu for clips.
I find I’m always trying long press on clips looking for the menu, it’s a mode I’m used to from elsewhere

The long press menu is there but it doesn’t include clip length option. just copy, cut, delete and export midi.

  • Yeah that would rock!

    thanks for your advice.
    it worked.
    great!
by the way did you recognize the additional menu that opens when you press the small arrow on the left bottom.
some functions are hidden really well.

True. At introduction there was a short time when unlocking could use credits
but it was soon changed to only use credits for store sound purchases.
I was lucky to get the free $30 credit to unlock my Mac and now I have Zenbeats on
Mac and IOS without additional payments. Roland has inherited a great deal of positive
    Karma by absorbing OpenLabs.

Now... it's will be instructive to see if the OpenLabs Team extends their skills deep into
Rolands Software strategy. Porting some of the Roland Synth assets of the Roland Cloud to
IOS would be great. Making some of those synths available in the ZenBeats Store would be great too. This will take a couple of years... so this thread (with proper rumor leaking) could
be one of those threads that gets regular input over the course of years before a single product is released.

The Roland Synths on the Mac are amazing and there list of emulated hardware is really long with (for example) D-50, Jupiter-8, SH-101, TB-808 and BlipBlop... something for everyone.

    @McD @MatthewAtZenbeats

Well it works for me (I have some cash credits) - at the checkout it takes $25 off my purchase from my credits. I just can’t complete the checkout.

  • Hi guys. Late to the party.

Is there a way to expand the mixer faders?

    • they are very short.

    • is there automation in the timeline?

Otherwise it seems ok. Just did a mixdown of
a heavy tr-09 session with lots of FF plugs.
Yesterday all the samples were gone - today sound.

Need more ZEN, but it is almost there.
Reminds me of that old Yamaha app.

I think the mixer faders are fixed length right now. There is automation which will be visible in the timeline once created, but you need to go inside each track individually to edit or create any automation (unless of course you create it “live” while recording. then it just shows up on the clip.)

  • OK - by track do you mean clip in the timeline?
    If I have 3 x 8 bar clips on a track, can I do a 24 bar
    filter sweep across them?
Do I have to record it in first for it to show up?
    Thanks for your help
