Are there plans to have native maps that support other midi controllers like Roli blocks are supported natively in Zenbeats @MatthewAtZenbeats ?

Particularly Novation controllers which have controls to support clip launching apps (Ableton, launchpad for iOS). It would be great to be able to control Zenbeats clips via midi.

I raised this question several times with no answer.

    Hey @WillieNegus

Sorry I missed the earlier posts/questions on this. Better hardware integration/enhanced MIDI Learn support are high on the request list from other customers too. Beside clip/song part launching, what other types features are you looking to map to?

It would be great if Zenbeats mirrored how Ableton/Logic/GrooveBox (ios) automap to Popular controller

    Thanks for getting back.

I guess I’d just like to see Zenbeats mirror how GarageBand, Logic, Ableton, GrooveBox etc automatically map the main device parameters/macros control, track select, record, clip and scene launch, stop/mute/solo, volume, pans and sends.

There are so many pads, knobs and controls on Launchkey/launchpad/akai Mpk (a few of the more common midi controllers) that would enable users to look/tap on screen less and focus on creating.

I believe Zenbeats is on the way to creating such an environment that blends the best of those other DAWs into something special and unique. This is one area it lags. The Roli integration was what drew me and many folks I know in and I think expanding on this area of automapped midi controllers will only expand user base as people like using controllers and don’t always want to figure out how to program them.

  • Is there a road map yet for countries that will become available? I'm in South Korea, but I'm sure many people would like to know.

  • @WillieNegus Again for the win..Great comment

  • Thanks @Telstar5 Have you transitioned from SL to Zenbeats? If so, how’s it treating you?

I haven’t been doing much of either lately honestly . I’m trying to learn my Yamaha MODX better a d practicing my bass. I’m gonna go back to it but when I do I’ll probably do NS2... Unoess Zenbeats gets SoundCloud for less money as per subscription than on desktop. Also I’m starting to wish there was an actual manual for Zenbeats. If they go sound cloud full featured though that’ll be hard to beat . I have a feeling they might . Why wouldn’t they?
Best of holidays to you Willie . You’re one of the MVP’s around here.

  • Does anyone else have audio playing early? I recorded some vocals from the ipad mic and it seems to be about an eighth of a second fast. So i tapped onto the ipad with metronome running and again its slightly out.

I was curious about this Zenbeats, so I downloaded it and played a little...after a couple of hours I had to buy it! I must admit I was shocked by its ease of use also for a music illitterate like me :-)

So now I'm trying to use it like my go-to DAW, I think it has more or less all I could need and way easier (for me...) then Cubasis 2 and BM3 (that I own and maybe will use if needed, obviously).

Now I'm trying to learn the more I can with video and other...would be great a manual but I do not see one.

A kind request because till now I haven't found nothing useful for this "new to me" Clips way of working: Please anyone could point me at any video that could clarify me a little more.

It is completely new to me, I think it's something like or similar to Ableton Live, maybe, sorry if mistake...

So where to learn more about Clips??
    Thanks so much

BTW: best compliments to the Stagelight team and all the best with the Roland affair!!!

I searched YouTube: “Zenbeats app” if I find anything clip focused I’ll link it.

Look for the Stagelight tutorials, the videos on clips pretty much apply to Zenbeats too and helped me a lot with clips

I recommend watching these, they helped me out big time

  • @Strizbiz thanks for the input, I'm going to see them!
@Littlewoodg not found much about this serch, nevermind, if you find something I will look at, in the meantime I will search more too
Zenbeats move me to learn more...
    Thanks both!!!

I've watched all the 1 to 100 series and they are very well done for beginners like me too. Well done and higly suggested to all.

Now I can use Zenbeats almost at full and I, once again, have to say all the best I can about it. No wishes to use my other DAWs at this moment; don't want to discredit them, at all, but this one ZB seems to fit precisely what I meant for a complete DAW to me, its workflow appears like tailored on my way of thinking software music. Also having both the usual Timeline and the new to me Clips mode helps creativity a lot .

Maybe it could not be as complete as maybe Pros would like to be, don't know because I have not such a deep experience in music making, but till now for me it is super OK.
Not last it's very funny to use :-)

Thanks @MatthewAtZenbeats and all the team, please continue your great way of supporting it with this continuous flow of feedback/upgrade/improving. Do listen to the clever suggestions of the very skilled guys here...so I can take advantage too ;-)

@Strizbiz tip was solid there is far more material to see under the app name “Stagelight” on YouTube.

And glad to hear you are having fun!
The app workflow hits a sweet spot for me too

Phew, for a moment there I thought it might just be a token update to get some NAMM publicity...

  • How is the AU FX automation in this one?

    Works well.

Zenbeats does most things that the other daws are missing. Can’t remember why I stopped using it tbh!

The 808 nights theme is awesome as well.

  • Just fired up the update. Routing does look improved, good to have the options available on the mixer view, but no midi routing to audio tracks or send tracks (so, for example, no midi notes to a Turnado AU FX).

No midi learn in AU FX other than those listed in the ‘show parameters’ tab from the four cubes at the top left of the plugin. This is as before. For me, I’d really like to map a foot controller to Enso’s trigger, but that isn’t one of the listed parameters.

There appears to be a new tab in the midi learn part of the transport bar (when expanded with the arrow), listing all assigned controls, I can see this will be useful

Just to be clear, I’m not moaning about anything here (apart from the lack of a decent written User Guide), just reporting initial discoveries from the 1.1 update. Continues to be a fantastic music making tool.

This one is beyond Zenbeats' control. Oddly, Enso doesn't expose that as an AU parameter. No host can map it. No host can AU control any parameter that the plugin doesn't expose.

Enso does allow direct midi cc mapping to the trigger in its MIDI & Settings section. I'm not sure if you can send MIDI CC's to an AU FX or not. I'll check it out if I find time.

[edit] Looks like maybe you can’t send MIDI CC’s to an AU FX. Outta luck with Enso I’m afraid, unless the Enso developers expose that as an AU parameter.

  • Thanks Wim. No, you can’t send midi cc’s direct to AU FX on either an audio or midi track, so no midi learn available in Enso’s ‘Midi & Settings’ section. I guess I’m spoiled by the routing in AUM where you are able to do it and I’d like Zenbeats to offer the same thing. I’m sure it’s far from simple, but surely not impossible?

Enso’s not critical for me though, so i’ll Just get on and enjoy Zenbeats for what it does offer - I originally bought it for its MPE capabilities, but I rarely get to that when it’s so simple to get a fully consuming jam up and pumping.

I remember now, I think I stopped using it as I couldn’t send midi to or from au fx such as from Envolver.

  • Any takers for this question? Can Zenbeats have simultaneous midi input on two different channels, at the moment it only plays the selected track here

As you say, it seems you can currently discretely route different midi inputs to different tracks/devices, but you can only hear/record the input on the selected track, so just one at a time.

I remember now, I think I stopped using it as I couldn’t send midi to or from au fx such as from Evolver

In the advanced midi settings you can route the midi from one track to another, but this only seems to work for midi notes already recorded into a clip. Also it appears impossible to unroute it - you can divert to a different track, but not reset to no track.

You can use midi AU FX within a track (e.g Rozeta). First load an instrument, then long press on that in the plugin slot and a ‘+ midi effect’ option appears, this gets inserted before the instrument. This will play the instrument on that track, but I haven’t managed to get it to either record into a midi clip or provide midi out to another track.

As I’ve already written, if we could just have a User Guide, then we’d actually know what it is and isn’t capable of, what is intended functionality and what is a bug and, going forward, what can reasonably be expected in the future.

  • Hi @MatthewAtZenbeats

I found a little bug using latest 1.1.0.7684 release (Unlocked ver.):

    • In a clip loaded with an instrument (ElectroGuitar was the case), double tap to go to edit page.
    • Select LFO 1 > LFO2 Depth : this cause immediate crash of ZB (only if you do not have set something in LFO 2 parameters).

So it is not big problem (because you obviously should have set LFO 2 param. to have it applied to LFO 1), but if you touch that buttton, maybe accidentally, you are out of the App.

    iPad 7th ge. 32 Gb, iOS 13.3

    Thanks for your attention, best

  • Nice update..but still issues with AudioLayer and also 808 subs still sound different (in sampleverse) compared to the original audio and how it sounds in AudioLayer

    • 1 would save a lot of time, confusion and requests for information from the devs. The Stagelight videos are great but they are no use in understanding new features that have arrived since the Zenbeats migration.

I’ve decided to give Zenbeats another go. This time is like to sequence with my beatstep pro, over different channels (10 for drums, 1 for a synth etc). However.... it seems that midi will only be listened to on the selected track, not multiple tracks simultaneously, does anyone know if this a setting or a limitation? Cheers.

    Maybe one for @MatthewAtZenbeats ?

You can in Timeline mode, but not currently in LoopBuilder mode
