Oh my,.... crash after crash after crash!!!! please let me know if there is any trick to get the ZENDaw scan my plugins...!?!?
I reinstalled the app again and again. I rescanned the plugins. I scanned for new ones as I thought it might only scan new ones and I get there app by app... this is really annoying that Roland as a major developer cannot get this straight!?

Scanning plug-ins is a priority for next update according to what I've read. I’ve gotten through all of my plug-ins after a couple of passes. Don’t reinstall because then you’re starting from scratch. Just keep scanning for new. I wouldn’t be surprised if some of the issue is certain AU’s. Other than this scanning issue I’m finding ZB like a rock and quite fun to use. I’m glad I persevered.

Thank you good sir. I thought it might be able to rescan again and again and again, but somehow it didn’t succeeded.
I dont understand why certain plugs would cause this. I use them in Cubasis 2,3, Beatmaker, Nanostudio, Audiobus and so forth... never had any plugin scanning crashes. Only zenbeats so far... :(

My other main DAW is NS2. Never had a problem with scanning plug-ins but some just would not work. Dev found in several cases the issue was with the plug and not NS2. He did an update to NS2 which helped but some still do not work. I just stopped using them and moved on.

In most cases there’s an alternative and I n both apps the majority of built-in fx are quite useful. Last night I was going through plugs in ZB and adding a few (followed by scanning for new) and everything was working fine. Quite solid in fact.

  • @anickt really encouraging. I will keep rescanning then :) thanks mate!

If you're new to Zenbeats there are some decent videos on Youtube. There were a couple of things that I got hung up on but once I either watched a video or figured it out on my own I was flying.

Also, Roland support through the app is VERY good! I got email answers to my questions within 24 hours or less including a video explaining a certain function I was having trouble understanding! Good luck!

@MatthewAtZenbeats - very pleased with the response by the support team! Thanks!

  • Does anyone know if we can record external midi controller movements? My keyboard records the knob movements of the internal built in synths but not my 3rd party AU's?

  • Does anyone know how to easily set a loop section in Zenbeats? In BM3 (and other daw) you can usually highlight a clip and set it to loop that section. In Zenbeats I can only seem to drag and adjust the loop section which is much less convenient. And even when I have a loop set it starts playback from the beginning of the timeline unless I click the play head inside the looped section.

Yes. To do so, you hook up your midi controller, load an AUv3 plugin, then tap the icon with four squares at the top-left to select "show parameters". Then expand the section with the transport controls if needed, and select the icon that looks like a keyboard with a knob to activate midi learn. Then long-press the parameter and move a control. Now the control is mapped, you can record the input.

I did find that control was a little dodgy over bluetooth from my NanoKey Studio. But that could be interference or something from having it sitting right next to a couple of devices at the time. Control worked, but sometimes movements didn't always register.

  • Thanks @wim I will give that a go..

Long press on the timeline overview to get this drop down. What you choose (In, Out, Play) will appear where you held.

What's your grade at this point? In terms of making stuff? I dip in and quite like bits of it, but haven't connected all the dots enough yet, however it doesn't seem (say) as muscle memory complex as BM3. No idea. What do you feel about it today?

    If NS2 had audio tracks...

But - Zenbeats is still a great app and an absolute steal right now. It’s kind of like NS2’s hyper little brother. It also kind of reminds me of FLMS in many ways but much more usable. I had to give up on FLMS because I found too many issues.

All that being said, I’m working on some things that are mostly based on samples and ZB is perfect. It’s pretty good with most AU’s although there is an AU scanning function that sometimes requires multiple scans to get through all AU’s without crashing. They say this is a priority to fix.

All in all, I like it, I use it and I recommend it. There’s a bit of a learning curve but it’s mostly based on finding out where all the functions are. A lot of them are accessed by a long press. There are some pretty good videos on YT. When I sent some questions in via the in-app support they were answered within hours including a video illustrating a function I had questioned.

I think this app is way underrated and it’s well worth the effort to get to know it. Like NS2 and Caustic, this one clicks with me. I honestly can’t say that about BM, Cubasis or most of the others and I’ve given them all a good shake!

If you decide to try it and have any questions let me know.

  • I’ve just started to use it and already it’s my favorite iOS daw. I’m comparing to BM3, NS2 and GarageBand which are the only others I’ve used. My preferred workflow is making audio loops in AUM and Groovebox and using the DAW to arrange, add effects and mix.

But, does anyone know if there is a user manual? I can’t find one on the site or in the app

I haven’t found one. I figured out quite a bit of it on my own with the help of YouTube. One thing I don’t do is use the loop mode. I use it linear which is very similar to NS2. If you have any questions I’d be glad to help.

Thanks. I’ve only been using it for two days and figuring it out as I go. I’m also using it in the timeline view. I’m bringing in premade audio loops but using the timeline to do arrangements. I bounced my first track as a test and the mix down has a lot of crackles and pops which aren’t there when I’m playing my project. I’m guessing I have two many effects loaded. I know there is a freeze option but since I’m using audio loops and not midi instruments I’m not sure if that will help me.

I’m using a lot of samples and effects. No issues at all. Check your buffer size under settings. I’m on 2019 iPad and iOS 13.4 and at 512 samples. Also, check your levels to make sure you’re not overloading the output.

Thanks. My buffer was 256, changed to 512. Are you using multicore support? I have A10 fusion chip so maybe multicore helps.

I have a limiter on my master bus but the test mixdown was a very roughly mixed test so I guess I’ll see how it sounds after I do a proper mix. So far though I’m pleasantly surprised with the app. It feels closest to desktop daws I’ve used in the past

  • Love Zenbeats. That’s all.

I saw 10 or so new drum kits. I’m not sure what else. I bought a few packs too. Happy with most of it.

Does midi AU recording work now ie can you record the midi from say Autony playing a instrument or is it only any good for live use?

Also bounce to track or track freeze would make Zenbeats my ios DAW of choice.

Great job on the Zenbeats Advance Course today @MatthewAtZenbeats

I highly recommend signing up to any user advanced or beginner. I thought I had most of the features covered turns out I still have plenty to learn.

Example: did you know Zenbeats keeps all of your midi takes? Wether you have overdub on/off you can recall any take. You can even scroll the takes as the track is playing. Nuts!

I have all of the iOS DAWs and Zenbeats is definitely my goto now. Still needs sidechaining which is on the dev list.

Sampleverse is a BEAST. Looking forward to more chopping/timestretch features but load up SugarBytes AUs on a track and you won’t miss it for now.

@MatthewAtZenbeats just to clarify, Zen supports multi out AUs now right? I stepped out when you were covering sub tracks but seems like I could send different channels from one AU to seperate sub tracks to be processed individually?

any chances to see the course online after the event?

  • @MatthewAtZenbeats So.... bug or issue report here??

Problem. Load new song and load iSEM AU. Import midi file and get clicks and pops playing it back?
Load exactly same mid file in Xequence and host iSEM in AUM and plays fine.

    Anyone ?

@mojozart thanks. But that setting does not exist on the version I have.... I see no where to force it to 44.1

So tested a few other AU’s and it might be iSEM... Zeeon and SynthMaster are fine. Hmmmmmm
