@anickt cheers for reply . Matt got back to me on Discord. It works now . I had to switch my icloud drive & zenbeats set to ON. He said icloud its not implemented in Zen but has to be switched on. Thats ok though cos I would not want to fill up my icloud storage.
@anickt with reference to the audio editing Zen needs bit of work . Matt said a lot of things I mentioned were recognized by the team so hopefully will be sorted. I was getting non responsive things with the tools i.e Split not splitting, clips not moving , fade outs on clips when moving them. I trust they will sort it out.
I have seen everything you mention in this post. Not sure about clips not splitting but I have seen it on occasion. Most of the time it works for me. I have found that placing the playhead, selecting the split tool and then tapping where the playhead is works every time.
Clips not moving - if you drag them and they snap back to where they were it means you are dragging your finger out of the lane for that track. I had a tendency to drag over and down for instance and then lift my finger. The clip would snap back. If I dragged and lifted my finger while within the boundaries of the lane it worked every time.
The fades are because you are dragging the clip from one of the upper corners. Try dragging from the middle of the clip. The fades are nice to have but once you've pulled the fade out it is very difficult to shorten or remove it. I have mentioned that to them as well.
@MatthewAtZenbeats
@anickt ok cool. Iam trying to work out the Undo function Seems to only undo/redo a few steps back/forward. Cheers for replying to my many posts today . Just trying to smooth out the kinks. That browser/iCloud thing I think they should mention on the Appstore. Icloud drive & Zenbeats needs to be switched on etc.
I don’t who should mention that on the AppStore. It’s a default install that does that.... and honestly I have never seen that in my times on IOS.... do you live in the Bermuda Triangle or something? 😂😂😂😂. Im kidding.
im glad you're sending up the notes to the man, I'm getting frustrated with the audio clips part of the timeline workflow, Yes some of my struggle might be unfamiliarity with the app, but there are issues there too, touch gestures for manipulating clips as you specified, and the + and - buttons for screen adjust during clip play is a pain in my ass and makes the process very "unfluid" Other studio apps are a few steps ahead in this area. I'm sure they'll catch up, but there's a lot of work to be done.
@Littlewoodg i agree 100% it needs some work for sure .I too had lots of issues with the audio editing Went to sleep at 8am this morning trying to solve stuff. I do appreciate its free and that was a very kind gesture of Roland but the name holds big weight. Akai similar with Retronyms iMPC PRO 1&2 . I will support this Zen as much as poss but till the tweaks are sorted got to use other DAWs.
@Littlewoodg yes the plus & minus zoom is the wrong way around. Throws me off
Yep. I'm all in with the Zen, I've loaded thousand of .wav and .ogg stuff into it, not to mention the first Windows buy-in, way way pre-Roland (super cheap btw) and then full unlock for $150, and i've bought everything in the store. I'm a big fan of the ideas in it, but the actual process on the time line with audio anyway, can drive me nuts.
Pinch zoom works for horizontal sizing. The mistake they made IMHO was removing drag-select for multiple clips. iOS standard is (or should be) one finger tap or drag to choose, move or re-size and two fingers for moving the view around or pinch-zoom.
I like to draw on Procreate and their implementation of touch is great. It’s like having the canvas on a turntable with panning and long zoom in or out all with 2 fingers. With Apple Pencil in my left hand and controlling my work surface with my right hand it’s one of the best iPad-based working experiences I’ve had and way more fun than pencil and paper.
I don’t have a problem with the +/- keys once I realized the zoom around where the Play Start marker is. If you want to zoom into a specific location, tap on the mini-timeline at the position you want to zoom into to position Play Start and tap the plus key.
@anickt cool
ill try it thanks!
(maybe it'll feel better than the old two finger pinch or spread...thats part of my problem with the timeline workspace, i'm trying to get it to work like other apps)
trying to fit those online tutorials into me sched. I've heard from you and other comrades that they're full of stuff like that tip
Make a list of questions. You’ll either get an immediate answer during the session or a follow-up. The beginner and advanced are not really that. “Beginner” covers more the clip mode along with the interface and general use while “Advanced” gets more into linear mode along with Drum Machine and SampleVerse. Both are valuable.
I’ve taken both more than once (I’m not working as much now due to the restrictions of C-19 😷) and learned something new in every class. For instance, you can’t import multi-samples into SampleVerse except through SFZ files. I did import a single file of an appropriate note (a lower note for a bass sound or a higher note as appropriate) from iM1 and it works fine for most applications.
But if you record into SV not only can you multi-sample by simply playing a note, waiting until it fully decays, play the next note etc., but SV will detect the pitches and map each sample appropriately plus it will “apply mild pitch correction” to the incoming note. Pretty cool! Oh, and tap a button for a clean sustain loop.
How good is Zenbeats for midi mapping AUV3’s with external controllers?
Can you have multiple midi controllers connected at once and assigned to a combination of instruments on different midi channels? (eg notes from a Launchpad Pro Sequencer and cc’s from a LaunchControl XL)
Do you assign controllers in Zenbeats (mixer etc) or use just AUV3’s with midi learn? (Zeeon, Poison etc)
I’m looking for an AUM style live jam workflow where I can have the midi automation recorded at the same time. So far Nanostudio2 is great for this but limited to 8 macros and no AUV3 FX automation. I’m yet to set up AUM and Xequence as it looks complicated and I’d rather keep it all in one app ideally.
Thanks for any insight of using Zenbeats in a similar set up.
That is cool, I vaguely remember the (then) Stagelight tutorial on Sampleverse (I wish that stuff was still up on YouTube)
EDIT oop still they are....EDIT oop not available in my country...
Can you do me a big solid? Screenshot the Sfz file in Zenbeats that works in Sampleverse for you? I’m still trying to crack that nut. As in other Sfz issues it’s usually a matter of correct folder structure and/or sample naming...and I am stuck in there somewhere, with one wrong thing or another.
I’ll get back to you on that. Going to be tied up for a bit. 😎
I looked at what SFZ’s worked for me in SampleVerse and the only ones had a single sample. Kind of pointless! I haven’t gotten a multi-sample SFZ to work but from past experience the folder structure can easily upset things. So I don’t really have anything sensible to show you at this time. If I get a chance to do one of the upcoming lessons I’ll see if I can get further info. In the meantime, I bought all the SV presets and imported a bunch of single iM1 samples and I’m pleased with the results. I don’t have Bismarck but maybe that would be an option hosted in ZB?
Thanks for the research comrade!
I will probably give the single sample a try, I’ve got some interesting sounds I’m Sfz that I don’t have in other forms, but you’re right, what’s the point really if it’s just one.
The Bismarck sF2 is a good substitute option, again I’ve got some cool sounds in that format, and the new update sorted storage of big collections, and loading more sample intensive instruments
The wish I’m sending to @MatthewAtZenbeats, is of course that the Sfz functionality be functional beyond a single sample.
I may be looking at this through the wrong end of the telescope: It may be that the focus of the Sfz support is in the making of them with Sampleverse and the loading of them into Sampleverse and the other Zenbeats instruments that play them. Including export to other apps which is a menu item in Sampleverse of course.
It sounded like you’ve made some using Sampleverse. I’m curious if you loaded them in other instruments in the app. I think Electrocomposer is one that runs Sfz
@Littlewoodg Do you have SynthJacker? I did a quick test and it exported a folder with the Sfz files in it and it seemed to work....
We’ll get this figured out eventually! 😆 I have not exported any SFZ from SV but I’ll look into it.
Good point! I have SJ but forgot that he added SFZ support. 🤔
Hey Everyone,
We found a bug with SFZ importing in SampleVerse. We're looking it now. Stay tuned!
you were able to get the Synthjacker-made Sfz to work in Sampleverse?
Yes in one simple test I did.... not a large range. Like a2-a3. But it worked.
noice!
thanks for the tip
sorry to keep on this, i can be a dog on a bone...
can you screen shot the one that worked as it appears in your Files app of Sampleverse's User SFZ files
i feel as if the sample naming is part of my issue
@MatthewAtZenbeats sorry if this had been requested before but would love to see a taller mixer, especially the faders.
+1
I will in a bit. I will send you video.
