  • How many tracks in Zen?

I use AUM and Drambo but wonder if Zenbeats could mix and match stuff recorded in AUM and obviously more. I bought multitrack DAW plus extra tracks ( 24 ) but have never got to the point of using it and it seems like Id just have a different arrangement process if need be but more limited compared to zen.

Dont really want to use a different platform but be able to maybe arrange different AUM multiple tracks.

@sigma79 so here is the deal for me.... right now I think that I have a project with 29 tracks... I dont think there is a limit, but what your device can handle. I was a diehard AUM and Xequence user.... but let me tell you zenbeats is almost perfect!!!!! Roland team is working their butts off to fix a lot of bugs. I would highly recommend the app!!! I have tried every single iOS DAW and none compare IMHO to Zen.

@onerez thanks. Could anyone recommend another option for learning? I found the UI rather unintuitive/not-iOS-like, but I'd like to give it a try anyway because the workflow appeals to me

Curious how you found it unintuitive/not iOS-like. Not to question your findings, but what about it led you to that conclusion?

One simple example could be that muscle memory for scrolling the plugin list doesnt work. You have to actually move the scrollbar on the far right of the UI.
There is no reason for this as iOS can make a distinction between scrolling and tapping.

Not true. I scroll lists all the time. You’re not limited to the scroll bar.

Hi. Using Drambo and AUM as a looper auv3 but wondered if you can splice tracks across in zEN. Say after melody you then got a different track. So creating scenes and arranging scenes. Prob be better with audio for cpu and multitrack daw could do this but zen would have clip launcher for maximum flexibilty on a mixdown.

  • If pos and seems like a track builder I described. Is zen worth it in regard?

@tpj maybe you're referring to what I think is called "inertial scrolling"?

I’ve had up to 16 tracks in testing and I have created up to 48 empty tracks. I don’t think I’ve ever used more than 16 tracks but I know people do. I’m sure the practical number is determined by device capability. There’s always Track Freezing. 🥶

Hi. Thanks. Will see if I need it in future.

  • @anickt got it, I haven't gone back to it yet, just trying to remember what things I found a bit odd. I'll probably check again this weekend, your tutorials are perfectly timed :)

Glad to help! I’ve got some spare time due to lack of work so I figured I’d try to clear up some misconceptions about ZB. I know it’s not going to be for everyone but lately I’m using only ZB, Auditor and select AU’s.

  • Zenbeats is really coming along. I think it facilitates sequenced clip/loop composition better than anything else I have. A few problems with rendering and AU plugins to resolve. The AU integration is very ambitious.

I had to be more specific. If you enter the plugin list that shows developer names then Zenbeats does not scroll. Just try it.

I can’t. All devs I have installed show up within that window so I don’t need to scroll. Use the in-app Support to connect directly to Roland. They are very responsive.

I have 278 plugins. I have no problem scrolling in the developer name list. IPad Pro 12.9.

  • Btw does anyone know how to record the automation sliders on screen.
Record automation is turned on. Channel is armed.
Trying to record turnado controls. Cant get it to record midi internally.
Not from turnado UI and not from the Show Parameters list.

Both inertia and scrollbar work? Weird. Only the scrollbar works on my iPad Air 3th.

  • @tpj I finally reinstalled ZB and scrolling worked for me too, so it looks like there's something else specific to your system/model

  • @MatthewAtZenbeats Guys just did some more testing on mixdowns and was a bit bummed cause the skipping came back but I couldn’t understand why if all my settings were left the same. Guess i found the culprit: Ableton Link.

After you close the app, and restart it, Ableton Link gets automatically Enabled to on. This setting is not in the settings of the app instead is on the metronome settimgs page. When I disabled Ableton Link, the mixdown worked perfectly again and zero skips! ❤️❤️❤️😊👍🏼☝️🙏

Interesting. On my system it defaults to Off. Is it off when you create a new song?

Ok lets be clear here on what we are saying... sorry I was eating food..... inertia works if you are in main plugin list... it does not work in the dev list only scrolling works there.... does that help? Sorry.

Can’t do it. But you can draw in automation for all Turnado parameters during playback. I’m pretty sure I’ve done it with an external controller. Haven’t had to do that lately though.

  • I just did a new mixdown with Ableton Link off and added RE-1 in the master track and no skips at all on mixdown, where before i had skips with it in the mix. So im happy cause i really like this app!

    +1

There is much more to Zen than meets the eye. Don’t even think otherwise: this app is really good. For my needs it wins the iOS DAW competition hands down because of the easy to understand UI and the completeness of the whole app.

You noticed the part about disabling Link fixing the issue for @Tones4Christ though I hope. If reproducible, that's a great find.
