Any AU host should work what it’s advertised for (Zenbeats multi-platform unlock is expensive). AUM, Audiobus, Apematrix are real-time hosts and no issues. GarageBand no issues, NanoStudio2 I’ve been lucky with it for now as AU host. Cubasis and Zenbeats you have to try this or that to expect a well rendered mixdown, very often some issues occurs. We need to think about music making, not troubleshooting. I can’t report 50 bugs a month for just an app. IMO, we can ask for the minimum which is reliable export, as we are more a less full iOS musicians and we just need to achieve our musical works. Because iOS is wonderful, I love it so much, but we need to trust it as a music platform (AUM is already the king I can believe in!!!). Asking for that minimum (advertised) can’t hurt. BTW every platform has issues but for example Live export songs work perfectly with 99% of plugins, internal, VST or AU, Zenbeats I have issues with 80% of my exports. But ZB is very promising, so ask for better = hope for what we’re waiting for on iOS concerning that kind of (DAW, Groovebox?... I mean it has loops view, timeline, freezing, busses, AU including midi...) host.

    Exactly!

So I'll happily use Zenbeats with the AU's that work with it and not worry too much about the others. I have no issues with my exports. I get things done with it. I also have a 44.1 device (2019 iPad) which seems to work OK with just about everything. Seems that there are issues with 48k devices

My goal is not to troubleshoot every time I try to make music (which I've done many, many times) nor am I married to any specific AU's. I can make acceptable (to me) noises with any number of apps that do work.

As far as Zenbeats goes - it's still young and they are working on it. Hopefully they get it all straightened out. I don't think you can compare it at this point to something like Live which has been around a long time relative to iOS. B)

  • Yeah I’m so close for now at least I’m not getting blank wave output.

  • Still getting skips on playback after replacing pluggin with Bs16i and even after increased to 1024 resolution.

Try an export with just built-in devices. If you still get problems there is a choice in settings to force 44.1. Try with it on and off and see what happens. If you get a good export from one of those tries, add AU's in one at a time and try again. It's really the only way to figure out what is going on. You should be getting clean exports no matter what, so something is causing this problem and you have to narrow it down to what.

  • Yeah trying that now. Thanks!

  • I’m having to wait nearly 2 minutes for Zenbeats to load up on my iPad Pro, admittedly I have a lot of sample loops in the Zenbeats “Audio Samples” folder (70 gigs worth) but is this normal? Are others experiencing this?

  • @Ozzy57 we believe so. What I have been told is that it indexes the files every load up. Is this any of your own content???

I'll let you know in a few years when I've accumulated 69.7 more gigs of sample loops.

  • Yep my own content plus the excellent sample loops available free from MusicRadar, would be great if a “refresh” button could be included in Zenbeat’s browser, well done to the developers of this fantastic software

  • My ZB install is 7.75 GB. It loads in 6.66 😈 seconds.

    2019 iPad iOS 13.4.1

  • Loving Zenbeats for sequencing.

Is it possible to record MIDI CC from my external synth while recording a new MIDI clip? Or at least record it into an automation lane?

Also would love to see native support for Novation Launchpad controllers.

Zenbeats records external midi CC as automation.
Launchpad support would be great :)

does anyone know how the loop works in the looping section/clip view?
if i import audio and slide the start point to somewhere in the audio file, then move the end point to where i think it will loop seemlessly, when i play the clip to a metronome it slowly drifts out of time, meaning that i have not selected the exact points where 4 beats lie. so is there a way of knowing with the start and end markers the i have selected exactly 4 beats or 8 or whatever? i have turned snap off and zoomed in to the waveform and have to keep experimenting.

i would much prefer if you could select the start point on the wave file and then the audio just plays for the duration of the loop but always starts on the beat next time around. the way zenbeats does it is like a loop within a loop.

@anickt just posted a great video on chopping up loops in Zenbeats. I thought of you right off the bat. You can cut a loop down however you like it, then loop the way you want in the timeline. I know it would be preferable to do it in the loop builder, but it might be an option for you.

@rms13 it may be the Plug In Delay compensation is ON causing 3rd party plugin clicks &pops etc . Goto Settings/Plug ins. Let us know if that helps switching to OFF. I only got into Zenbeats last night so not tried exporting Mixdowns as yet.

@MatthewAtZenbeats zenbeats Need bit of help here. Zenbeats is impressive but the account login thing is bit weird. I have signed in to my Roland Account in Zenbeats downloaded & installed the Unlocks&Loops. I have not installed the Sampleverse stuff presets etc. Is this why when I Sign out my Roland account and reload Zenbeats it keeps asking me to login to account before I can continue with Zenbeats? It also downloads & re installs the Unlocks & Loops...baffling because it loads fine when I stay signed in with or without my wifi or internet on.
@anickt @wim Reaching out to you and anyone with any help would be much appreciated

  • So I guess why would you sign out? I have never signed out so..... don’t know. Hope you get it sorted. It’s becoming a great app.

Hey very useful video. Im picking up tips from it that im now using. Also long pressing on things to see if anything pops up.
My issue was importing a wav file (into a loop square) with the same bpm as the song but getting the start marker lined up somewhere along the wav file, then looping 4 bars exactly, but im still tinkering with it.

@onerez reason being that I got bit worried because my email confirmation when I signed up says something about email eventually expiring. It really is good and do not want this app locking up on me one day. Will prob be a day when Iam showing of my beats and app to friends..

Hmmmm. Odd. Well I am sure it will get sorted for you. With long weekend Don’t know if Matt will see this for a bit.

You also might send a support ticket within the app.

  • @anickt hi if possible do you have the correct support email for the Zen Devs? Thanks in advance . We spoke a few times @anickt on the koala dischord and what seems to be doomed espi1200 forum. Hope alls well. Yeah this Zenbeats login thing is bit weird

I've never signed out, and have only ever once been asked to sign in, the first time I ran the app. I've used it plenty of times offline, so I doubt there's any problem with authentication expiring.

@anickt cheers for link, yeah eSPi who knows. For now though this Zenbeats effects plugins are sounding top notch. Just got to sort this logiin/out thing. I use my own samples so really don’t need the Sampleverse add ons. But I think maybe I have to install all then can log out. Will test a bit later.

  • @anickt @wim @MatthewAtZenbeats is there a way to set a Projects Sample rate 44.1/48khz. 16/bit/24bit etc. I see no option in Settings. Does Zenbeats do automatic audio file conversion for imported audio. I can not see aywhere in settings what Bit rate Sample rate Zenbeats runs at. Thanks in advance.
