Ah, I see. I did the (perhaps silly) mistake of first creating an Instrument track, then tap-hold on it to get the Import midi file. It now makes more sense to do it outside this instrument, since the midi file can have more than one track. Thanks!
That’s what I was doing @bleep What @onerez shows is what I got from Roland. If you want them in clip mode, you open in linear and then copy/paste individual tracks into clips. They told me they are working on improvements.
Cheers @anickt. Regarding improvements, I hope they consider allowing a midiFX to sit in-between the timeline midi clip and the au instrument. Useful if the FX is not a generator, but rather a filter/randomizer FX etc. That's not possible today, right?
I see one can have midi on one track (e.g. the piano motifs), the au instrument on another track, and put the FX filter there, and route midi from one track to the other. That works, but then the same midi can't be routed to any other tracks (right?). Zenbeats should just take a look at AUM for the gold standard of flexible routing in their "Advanced midi" popup.
Does this help?

Yes, thanks. I have MidiTools but not MidiBus. Will see next time if MT passed the scan (hopefully it will eventually).
MIDIBus is part of MIDITools
FYI from the dev of Piano Motifs:
Piano Motifs produces a MIDI file with 3 tracks. One track has the tempo and time signature, another track the right hand (melody) notes, and the last track the left hand (accompaniment) notes. Now, the different number of bars usually happens because sometimes the last melody note is long and goes beyond the bars the accompaniment goes to. This was meant to avoid abrupt ends, but can cause issues with looping.
Anyone using the launchpad with Zenbeats ? Can you midi trigger those clips?
I'm not using the launchpad with Zenbeats.
However, the clip and scene launchers can be midi-learned to cc's (not notes). So, if the launchpad is configured to send cc's then yes. If not, no without some sort of conversion in-between.
I tried with an LPD8 I had lying around. I set the pads to Toggle and used CC mode. MIDI learned the Play button for each clip to a pad and there you go. Tap to Start. Tap to Stop. 😎 Make sure to set MIDI input to your pad device in ZB Settings.
Thanks Wim and Anickt!
Or in a drum slot
Anyone has success to use Octachron with Zenbeats?
True! Lots of possibilities 😎
I did the advanced class Roland offers yesterday. By the end it was just the instructor and me. I asked about additional choke groups for the drum machine and was informed that the drum machine was getting a whole revamp which might include more choke groups. He also touched a little on sound design in the Sampleverse instrument. Wow! @anickt maybe your next tutorial could explore Sampleverse in more detail.
Working on it at this moment. May be more than one video. 😆
Well where is it????? 😂
I was gonna ask 2 questions but I already found the answer to one...
Quantization in pattern editor:

If anyone is struggling with the quantize Option like I was... It’s probably obvious but I couldn’t see what I was “quantizing to”. Quantizing value relates to grid size, so you change the grid size to the value you want to quantize, you can then change it back to whatever value.
Plugins in mono
Some plugins like Dubstation 2, I believe it’s the case with other Audio Damege plugins, only produce a mono output, left channel. Even when powered off. ¿Is this a known issue?. Haven’t found info on this.
Thanks!
Nice tip on quantize! I tried several AD plugs (EOS 2, Grind, Quatromod, DS2 and out of those only DS2 does that. I suggest notifying AD as will I.
Not sure if these have been mentioned but these AUs need fixed/updated and figured this was the place to post.
Best is to notify the dev of the plugin directly. There’s no guarantee they will see this. When I find a plug that doesn’t work in ZB I notify the dev and also Roland through in-app support.
You can unquarantine and rescan, and you may find that a previously quarantined plugin now works. The list of current outliers seems to be dwindling.
YMMV: In theory you can just rescan? I recall there was something weird about this, like rescanning didn't work unless I unquarantined first.
Speaking of outliers, why Zenbeats takes so long to scan is beyond me.
I look forward to when Zenbeats is sufficiently established and stable that a quarantined plugin will be the plugin dev's problem and not one for the Zenbeats devs.
@mojozart What scanning are you talking about? Once the initial scan is complete you only need to scan for new. This takes seconds if that. Are you sure you are not talking about when you start up and it scans your data packs?
You can rescan, which I did and got model 15 working and neo soul keys. But audiokit already knows they have issues with d1 and FM Player.
@onerez my point was that the results of the scan change over time. Rescanning may reveal that a previously quarantined plugin is now ok, as reported by @Lil_Stu07
Gotcha. Sorry Mate!
@MatthewAtZenbeats Tried it last night by mapping midi cc’s to external midi controller. Process it’s easy, but when mapping external auv3’s , the sound behavior of some apps changes ( it jumps away from the initial parameter settings on the preset you’re working with).
With Zenbeats’ own plugins there is no problem and mapping is straight forward through Midi Learn function .
Anyone interested in checking on auv3’s midi controller mapping, it’s same through Midi Learn but you need to switch to Parameter View when you are on Plugin view and map from there.
I recently downloaded and tried Zenbeats on an older laptop running windoze 7. I tried the demo song and it ran at about 25% CPU most of the time but would spike to 100% occasionally. I’m going to try to tweet the settings and see if I can get it to run a little smoother. It looks really nice on my 27” monitor! I’ve gotten the green light to get a NUC type computer for music production, nothing major, just a decent upgrade from anything we have around the house. I’m still debating it but will probably eventually make the purchase.
My question is if I spend the 50 points to unlock Zenbeats for PC and later decide to get the whole enchilada package, will my 50 points count towards the 150 points for the full package?
I really like Zenbeats but there are 3 things driving me nuts right now. I tried looking through the thread and searching to see if they'd been mentioned but didn't see anything. Also, I'm signed up for the class next week. Anyway, any help with these?
1) How do you set a clip length to loop for instrument tracks? I can do it by adjusting the loop marker on the track timeline but I'm literally having to draw in a super long note to get the timeline view to extend so I can see more bars to include. I thought at one point the +/- zoom would let me see more bars but now it doesn't unless they contain notes. Ugh.
2) When I create a new clip in the drum view, and open it up it often shows the pattern from another clip until I edit some settings at which point it updates the view. Is this a bug?
3) Ableton Link pretty consistently stutters initially when playing a song like it starts immediately and then realizes the Link counter hasn't hit 1 so it jumps back.
Not sure I understand. If you create an instrument track and double tap on it you’ll create a clip of whatever length you chose under New Pattern Size. Then drag out the right side and you’ll get loops the length of the initial pattern. Then set the loop marker. You can also create a pattern, double tap on it to enter the clip editor and then turn off looping in the “four square” menu upper left and then make the clip whatever length you want.
Never seen this. What is your process for creating a new clip?
I never sync anything to ZB and didn’t have much success when I tried it. I either use AU’s or import wav’s.
