Would be fantastic if the Zenbeats drum machine could handle multi samples within the same lane (a multi sampled Snare at different velocities for example) and a given hit being chosen by a round-robin method, makes for much more realistic acoustic drum kits. I know there’s probably a million things on the list for the devs but this would be so cool 😃

  • I really want to love Zenbeats but I'm pretty frustrated right now with attempting to export some great tracks I created within. If I attempt to freeze a track, it takes 15-30 minutes regardless of whether I choose realtime and then the result contains crackles and/or stuttering. If I try to export a mix of the track, I get the same kind of results so I cannot seem to get my imminent hit song out of the box. This is a 7th gen iPad running iOS 13-something. I had training yesterday and asked about it and the instructor indicated that is was hard to guess but his suspicion would be some app(s) that don't agree with the rendering settings but the tracks have different plug-ins on them and I cannot seem to isolate the problem. Playback of the track doesn't have any of these issues so any suggestions before I have to try to record audio to another device? Thanks! :star:

Turn off all plug-ins and export. Is that OK? If so add back one plugin at a time until the issue shows up. I have same iPad and not having problem. I do use a small number of plug-ins that I know work. It’s worth questioning if you really need to use certain plug-ins. I’ve found in many cases that the built in plugs do a fine job especially in a final mix where some of the difference is so subtle that you just don’t hear it. YMMV

  • How do you go around playing samples in Zenbeats?. As far as I know you can’t import samples into Sampleverse, which I don’t understand.
This is a feature that I believe it’s missing.

    • You can add your own samples To the drum instrument, but there’s no sample editing, and the little sample display is too small to do anything. I guess you could edit the sample in AudioShare and then export, but it’s tedious.
    • There’s no way that I know of to play your own samples, or to resample a sound... hope they add that feature to sampleverse. In the meantime, any AU3 samplers that could work well in Zenbeats?.

You can already do this stuff

You can import single samples into SampleVerse or record them for multi-samples.

You can also resample. Solo the track you want export as song. Then you can import to audio track. Set loop length for the track, solo the track and Export Song. Fill in the name and format and export. 2 windows will pop up. You should see a window giving you the option to save to Files App. Cancel that and you will see a window asking if you want to see the file. Accept and it will take you to Zenbeats Songs page. Double tap on the “song” you just exported and it will open in an audio track in the currently open song.

In addition to what @anict and @mojozart pointed out, you can also create an audio track and import the samples to clips. This is probably more suitable for longer samples, like one measure long or so, but doesn't have to be. You can import into the clip builder or to the timeline, doesn't matter. It's a quick process. Just long-press, select Import Audio File, and then browse to the clip through the files app. Or, if the sample is already in Zenbeats, double-tap and select from the built-in list.

  • has someone here a novation circuit and can tell me how it behaves in regards of controlling Zenbeats?

  • I’ve been having a lot of fun with zenbeats lately.

    Hi,
I’ve seen your videos, and I don’t know if I missed something but I haven’t seen how to import a sample into Sampleverse. I mean an existing wav file from the user folder, not a new recording.
Ok... I just checked and I feel stupid  The option to import a sample is in the “Edit” tab, not in the record tab or within the Samplebank module, that creates a new Samplebank from the selected sample file. I believe it’d make sense to have that option (also) in the Samplebank module, under the waveform. Thanks!.
I’m posting where to do it in case someone misses it too.

  • Printing Rozeta Arpeggio midi info to sequence?.
    Hi,
I’m finding it hard to print the arpeggio to the midi info. That is, turning off the “pre-fx” midi option to capture the output of the arpeggiator and consolidate it in the sequence. I can hear it fine with “pre-fx”, it just won’t record. The strange thing is that it only seems to happen with the arpeggiator, I tested and I can capture record output from Rozeta Bassline, Fugee machine...
I’ll try to explain each step to see if anyone can reproduce or tell me what I’m missing, greatly appreciate it.

    1) starting point. No fx: 4 E notes.

    2) Rozeta bassline. And 3) capturing the output of Rozeta Bassline with “pre-midi-fx” off

It works fine, records and appends the output of Bassline.

    4) Add Rozeta Arpeggiator and 5) recorded output of Bassline + Arpeggiator (pre fx off)

Perfect, it’s Recording midi output from both Bassline and then arpeggio. Arpeggio is adding notes to the original E notes and the Bassline-generated C notes.

    6) Arpeggiator alone:

Nothing, I can hear it “pre fx” but it’s not working or recorded to output when “pre fx” is off. Tried switching the midi channel, latch mode... in Arpeggio. Doesn’t make a difference. If I put an empty sequence in Rozeta Bassline, same effect, no arpeggio is generated. Oddly it seems like Arpeggiator only works (no pre fx) if there’s a midi fx before it... Obviously I’ve tried with just Arpeggio as a single fx and it won’t record either.
I need arpeggio to draw fast notes, 1/4, 1/8... that’s easy to do in the drum sequencer but seems like a nightmare in the piano editor. Either I sort out Rozeta Arpeggio or I need an alternative to drawing quarter and eights...

    Thanks so much!

  • Adding to my previous post... if you record from the keyboard (new sequence) Arpeggio works. I’m thinking it’s not an issue with Arpeggio but with the routing. Midi notes on a sequence do not go through the midi Fx when “pre fx” is off, That’s why “modifiers “ like Arpeggiator are not working but “generators” like Bassline are.
But I’d like to record simple, long notes, and be able to try out different arpeggios or fx to commit them afterwards. I also tried sending midi to a new track but haven’t been able to record any modifications (midi fx modifiers).

Use the internal keyboard to feed notes to the arp instead of placing a held note in the clip . ZB will record the arp output. There is also an arp in SampleVerse with a bunch of presets. You can also input your own. It’s really more of a step sequencer than a traditional arp. I’m working on a video for it.

Hi @anickt , thanks for your answer.
I did mention in a following comment that keyboard works, but that wasn’t what I was looking for. I wanted to apply the midi fx after recording the notes, in order to fiddle around and such...
I did find a way to do it using Midi Tools which I just downloaded: https://apps.apple.com/es/app/midi-tools/id1446209019?l=en

The plugin in that suite that would be the obvious choice is “Midi route”, unfortunately it doesn’t pass ZB scan. But there’s another option that works in that suite, “Midi bus”. I’ll attach screenshots, basically you send to the bus after the arpeggio or whatever fx in the “source” track and then record that onto a different track where you attach another instance of Midi Bus but this time receiving. It seems to be working just fine, I hope it’s clear in the screenshots.
Electro bass track has the notes and midi fx, and I’m recording the midi output of that track into the Electrokeys track.

(Edit: got the screenshot order wrong)

Thanks for the info! Good thinking! I’m hoping that future updates to ZB make this kind of thing unnecessary but it’s nice to have the option until they do.

I’m glad I sorted it out, and I’m glad I found Midi Tools. Zenbeats has those midi options where you are supposed to be able to send midi from one track to another, but as far as I can tell it’s only audio. Midi and audio routing needs some work IMHO. Being able to send and receive midi and audio between tracks.

You can send MIDI from one track to another but I haven’t found a real practical use for it with the way it’s implemented. You can duplicate tracks which seems like an easier path to take. I know Roland’s working on ZB and I’m pretty sure routing is one of those things. I have no insider knowledge however! 😆

I really want to love Zenbeats but I'm pretty frustrated right now with attempting to export some great tracks I created within. Thanks! :star:

Just wanted to come back around and thank you for your wisdom @anickt . It did indeed render properly with zero plugins enabled, but it sounded pathetic and I've spent hours and hours trying to get at least a minimally decent version to render over the weekend with no luck. I've disabled or replaced plugins with native ones where possible, adjusted settings every which way, even tried inserting (4pockets) Multitrack in the master bus--which seemed like a moment of genius except that it keeps recording at 48k while the host clearly says 44.1k which results in a clean but accelerated recording. So frustrating when the song itself plays back perfectly within Zenbeats every time. I'm about to dub it to cassette instead... :confounded: Anyway, I'm finding it fantastic for creation but if I cannot use my favorite tools or get the results out then that might put a damper on it for me. Wah!

Here’s something else I found out with Midi Tools bus... Here’s the scenario... Poly 2 is generating midi (midi fx) to play the drum instrument. When used as an midi insert fx in the drum track, it overrides the step sequencer. That is, either you step sequence or you let Poly 2 do it’s thing, you can’t have both. Using midi tools bus on a track with Poly 2 you send the midi to the drum track, with another “receiving” midi bus instance. In that scenario, you can have both midi at once, the poly 2 midi and the tracks step sequencer midi. So you could, for example, do hi hats and polyrhythms in Poly 2 but have the bass drum and snares in the sequencer. Or have a basic beat in the sequencer and use poly 2 to come in and out adding extra fills and notes without having to create as many sequences.

Right but there is no place (that I know of) to add MIDI fx to a Drum Track like there is in an Instrument Track. So I’m wondering where he is putting the MIDI Bus effect from the MIDI Tools package to do what he is describing.

    Hi @anickt,
I see a “midi fix” option when long pressing on the Drum instrument just like with the other instruments.

    @tahiche keep going!!!!! Coool Stuff!!!!

Yeah, I might actually make some music when I stop obsessing over all these things that “keep me” from making music.
The Midi Tools bus is actually very useful for a range of applications. Like playing the same sequence on multiple instruments. I know you can copy and paste, but what If you want to change a note?. I do programming for a living and it’s a sort of OTC thing to not repeat things...
I wish I knew how do tutorial videos so I could put together a little demo cos it is quite helpful.

@tahiche Thanks! Learn something new every day! I swear I’ve long pressed on that and got nothing! I’ve long pressed on everything else in Zenbeats (I think!) 🤪

Now that I know this I’ll put a video together. If you have any further ideas feel free to DM me. 😎👍🏼
