Thanks a lot.
The forums work well for certain things but I find it's easy to miss things, so generally email is best. I try to replay as soon as possible but that can take longer at times. If it's urgent or you feel like I missed your mail please feel free to send a second one, ping me on twitter or send a PM here.
yeah, they're both keeping me busy
It's not impossible but not that simple either since it really is a mono synth by design and that's not to save cpu or anything but to make the modular aspects of it work like they would in hardware (which would be mono...). Adding polyphony in general would be easy but keeping the modular stuff working wouldn't, so instead than spending weeks rewriting this one only get something half baked I'd rather make a new one that's designed to be polyphonic from the getgo. (hint: there might be something coming later this year )
That said, I'd be interested to know what you'd like to see in a poly version of this? Is it the sound in general or is it the modular stuff or both?
Hi Kai, thanks for responding. I like the modular aspect of this, though I still find some aspects a bit confusing, and I really love the sound. Which modular aspects would be affected by a change to monophonic? @ka010
I mentioned yesteday in another that I was able to get these working reasonably well by playing them through Prometheus AU. Actually it ended up with a rather weird but interesting mix of having some qualities of mono and poly. But I was at least able to do per note pitch bend. It ended up creating something quite unique that you would have to learn a particular playing style to get the best of.
Hi @ka010
I understand Shockwave is a (semi)modular synth and it does a good job at it. So thank you for that.
What I'm looking for is a synth I can play with my MPE controller. Shockwave has a wonderful sound engine and would be perfect. I could live without the sequencer, logic, etc. So the short answer to your question would be the sound.
In more detail: the two oscillators, the effects (at least the reverb!!). For the modulation I'd honestly like a matrix (you have the MOD section already) as the pop-up menu on long press still has its issues (Audio Damage's Continua has sacrificed the double tap function for this). Regarding Modulation, LFO, envelopes and S&H it's ok but more important would be modulation with MPEs FIVE dimensions - you are really close in Volt.
Important thing: customisable modulation curves, as every controller is different (think Equator ). As far as I know there is no synth on iOS with these features. These could live instead of the logic/sequencer section of the mono Shockwave. Aftertouch smoothing is also a nice feature of modern MPE synths.
One last thing would be using the general terminology for the MPE modulations (as opposed to Roli's).
How does this sound?
Shockwave is crashing on any attempt to open, both in AU and standalone. I'm going to email kai now. Anyone else getting this problem?
It hasn't been on my iPad for a while now, sorry.
Fine here (AU in aum)
All good here - both standalone and AUM open ok...
Huh, weird, thanks guys
Reboot?
Same, but I’m talking only one instance.
Hey @ka010 Shockwave as you know, just had an update and every time I scroll to the top of the gui using AUv3 in AUM to adjust the Oscillator volume and the main volume it immediately scrolls back down to the two envelope & oscilloscope page. while I’m only trying to adjust the volume with 1 finger. It’s a real headache. I tried resizing but not restart yet. I’m On iOS 13.7 not 14 yet. So maybe it’s that... I’m also wondering if anyone else has noticed something similar?
Same issue in CB3 on 13.7.
I pinged him on Twitter too just in case he doesn’t see on here.
Cool. Thanks.
i am using ios 14 and when i go to change a preset, it never changes. i can’t only play and init patch. i’ve gone thru every preset and it just clicks then back init
sweet! didn’t see the update. all good now. thanks @White
still getting the jumps across the screen when adjusting volumes but the patches change again
Yeah that’s what we were saying. He knows about it and is looking into it.
Kai says the scrolling issue should be fixed in this newest update today. I don’t have the update yet to confirm.
Cool. Thanks for the diligence @DukeWonder no update here either in the US east coast but I’m sure it will come through
Update confirmed, EU
Update out in US. East Coast.
I’m getting stuck notes with Shockwave and Velocity Keyboard. I have to restart Shockwave repeatedly to fix it. Also it’s very slow to load and open. Seems to be getting worse in both regards lately. Anyone else experience this?
All these apps are good but un-usable because the menu pops up. Every time you tweak. Even with long press. Imagine making good apps. Then messing it up like this.
Got an ipad mini just for mono synths. Chordjam to be generative without chords but cant tweak the app.
Such a bad decision to not be able to tweak a parameter. Why on earth would you need speed. Just to route stuff.
@sigma79 I believe you can turn off the long press function in the Settings. I had the same issue until someone pointed out the same to me. 😉
Hope that helps!
This is not usual behavior. I've never had the pop up other than when long-pressing the knob. When just turning the knobs, I've not seen the menu pop up.
