  • Clarification...I was considering buying it, not posting about it. I did the the comments in the app store but this is the first one I've personally seen elsewhere

Can I resurrect this thread to ask for a current state-of-the-app Shockwave opinion?

I love the sound of the demos but the frequent reports of problems have me kind of spooked. Have the kinks been (mostly, at least) worked out?

I guess I’m asking for someone to tell me to go ahead and get it, lol. Weekend’s here and I need a project!

There’s no manual afaik so I’ve mostly only been able to make pretty basic patches with it but guess it’s ok if your knowledge of synthesis is good. Some graphics issues in AUM on iPhone. Tend not to use it.

  • I have to sequence elsewhere but sounds nice.

I guess it makes a Ripplemaker, branches, Shockwave trio.

    Being mono.

  • Branches sounds most volca modular.

Shockwave sounds 2nd volca modular but with an additional yummy fly sound as if added to a filter and amp envelope. It would probably sound smoother than most FM mixes ( wave voice mix )

Ripplemaker 3rd but most abrasive fm

Obviously theres more range from core sound, from all. Where you can play a key or bass.

    But dont really know tbh.

There are a couple of pretty good vids about how it works .

I'm glad you posted this...I was actually considering it!

I realized something...I've never seen a YouTube video by ANYBODY with any kind of negative review for any synth apps. Maybe I'm not looking hard enough but I literally don't know anything negative about a product unless I read it here.

That’s not a knock on anyone, btw. For all I know there could be a huge amount but the YouTube algorithm hides it

FWIW, it has been stable for me and I don't have a problem using velocity keyboard with it.

@Wrlds2ndBstGeoshredr : what problems do you have with Velocity Keyboard and Shockwave?

It responds if I play slow. As soon as I speed up it starts dropping notes. Perhaps there is a setting that would solve this?

can you post an example? how fast are you playing when notes get dropped? have you set velocity keyboard to a mono setting?

  • I just tried with very fast notes and encountered no glitches. iPad 6.

Awesome! Many thanks! I will tinker with the settings. I love the sound of this thing.

If you do have issues, maybe it is particular to particular patches? If so, maybe we can take a look and see if the way the patch is set up is such that fast notes will break the patch -- the modulation possibilities are quite complex -- and it might be that some patches don't work well with fast notes.

  • Thanks all who responded to my question!

There are some by SoundForMore, Jakob Haq. Go to YouTube and search for "Shockwave synth numerical audio"

  • Just back to synth tweaking but learned from Jacobs vid.

Not sure about 2nd sequencer lane. If its just recieving modulation and a modulation source.

Jakob’s vid completely skips the complex modules, unfortunately, if I remember correctly. Leo from Soundformore may well have covered those though, as he has a good understanding of such things

  • Leo is cool.

    Another tweak.

  • just bought this
    dang its good

  • Since this thread reappeared, I started messing with the app again. I still have a problem with runaway sounds from this app. Always have. All of a sudden a shreiking noise, even if it’s been sitting inactive for a while…it was discussed 4 years ago…and it’s still there ( for me anyway). I just read through the entire thread to refresh my memory. This is running standalone, from the init patch.

I’d like to start using it again, but still the problem.
