  • So, about my previous question regarding how to activate record/play/pause/stop in L7 while in AUM... don’t even need to route through AB3 or have split screen. Dragging an L7 app window up from the dock works perfectly!

It’s really great doing it like this and AUM seems to remember the added window too!

Hint: when I first added the L7 app window, there was no interface in the window. Had to hit the hamburger icon top left in the L7 pane and then I had all the controls. I’m really loving this setup now. Going to try the same in apeMatrix now. :)

Does this app record at 16 bit only or can it record and 24/32bit? Is it stable now?

I’ve only been playing with it for about an hour now... in AUM and apeMatrix... but no crashes so far iPad Pro 10.5 iOS 13.3

As the “blokes” here say... “works a treat” using an L7 app window from dock in apeMatrix too :)

Yeah. Although both apps are universal... you can't do the app window thing on the iPhone.

First of all, I would just like to give my respect to the creators of the Audiokit Framework and to the developers of this and other amazing apps based on that framework, who's work is making music creation accessible to so many people.

I would just like to say something about the usability of AudioKit L7 - Live Looper as an IAA right now. My purpose is to load L7 on an FX slot on a DAW (AUM in my case) and then create loops of virtual instruments. What happens is that L7 is loaded in fullscreen, making unable to see the virtual keyboard of the virtual instrument, so one have to switch apps to play the notes and control the loops, which is pretty much unusable.
I suppose this is beacuse L7 is IAA. If it was AUv3, it wouldn't happen, since L7 would be loaded inside a resizeable window and then both L7 and the virtual keyboard are seen at the same time. Am I right?

Any thoughts on this? Is someone using L7 with the same purpose and using a more usable way?

    Cheers!

GTL works with slide over function so being IAA is not a problem if the app manages that. AUv3 will be more useful for AUM/AB users of course...

  • ok took the plunge - the slide-over option seems to do the trick - but why are the recordings so quiet? They're playing back at around a quarter of the volume they were recorded at, even when I increase them via the mixer. How are you guys getting around this?

Also noticed the load new session at start up didn't work for me just now, it loaded the previous session but with added hiss.

    Trying a reboot...

No, I didn't see that. I don't follow you on insta but I just did. :)

I'd seen someone else mention the split screen option and went to try. In the process I noticed that even though you can't do the split screen yet... you CAN do the window from the dock thing.

This makes L7 MUCH more useful and fun for me. :)

Yup I think I named wrongly slide over as split view in some moment... In fact now I’m not sure if GTL does split view (it got portrait mode in iPad and become universal app with that mode for iPhome) but any app doing slide over seems a good trick for AUM setups until AUv3 come (GTL someday will come too but I don’t expect it soon my bad...) @jmarshallgtl join us!

  • When I bought it I thought, well this may be a nice thing... oh boy with the slide over feature this app is frigging awesome! I am blown away. A few things I would love to see in it — in preferred order :)

    1) Auto overdub, staying in record mode basically
    2) recording automation (using effects and record the FX into the loop. My blooper pedal can do this! Awesome to be able to do so)
    3) being able to only reverse one part of the loop (when you have lets say 4 parts looping)
    4) keeping it awesome ;)

Something I wish for but I am pretty sure it’s already in there somewhere: I want a looper like all my loopers work. Hitting record, hitting it again and not being forced to the measures. When I hit A it deletes the recorded stuff after I hit stop... but I am pretty pretty sure that’s me

David what about slide over makes this app so great?

  • @kobamoto on the iPad you can use it like an AU Plug this way already. It fits my workflow. Jamming could look like this:
    AUM one channel
    L7 in FX Slot.
Synth plugin. Hook up with the AUM keyboard. Slide L7 in. Start recording.
Now just exchange the synth with drummer. Lay down your beat. Slide it in when you like - hit the buttons, record, manipulate, send fix. It’s just a cool way to loop and a nice workflow.

Hope you can understand my enthusiasm A bit now haha :)

Yeah that was the only thing holding me back - having to switch screens, but the slide-up/over thing does the job really well.

I was a bit concerned as I have problems getting the toolbar to slide up when I’m in Procreate for some reason, but it’s fine in AUM.

I’m recording loops into Multitrack, which still drives me up the wall, but I prefer working this way to using a standard DAW.

  • edited December 2019

@Aure Been using it in slide over mode works a treat in AUM had one freeze so far where the transport stopped in L7 even though it continued in AUM and the usual iPad audio hum ! I was using Brusfri in the chain so maybe the two apps don’t go together well.

  • Is there a manual ?

Still can’t really find much good information about a few things...

Most importantly for me is how the count-in works, are there options for this?
Does it default to one bar or longest measure when recording additional loops etc...

Cheers if anyone can help : )

There is a tutorial, just tap the top left menu and tap “TUTORIAL.”

For the first loop, count in is at least 1 measure if the play button is on (depending on where in the measure the metronome is). If the app is not playing, you can tap one of the circled numbers and get a countdown that’s exactly 1 measure. For A, there’s no countdown - just starts recording instantly.

For subsequent loops, the app starts recording when the playhead wraps back around to beat 1.

  • Thanks, very informative. (I don’t have the app yet)

If you don’t mind I have a follow up question though :)

If you record an initial loop of say 32 bars and have it playing back and you then want to record a 1 bar loop, will you have to wait till the initial loop gets back to beat 1?

(FWIW, I think Loopy might default to this behaviour but lets you optionally choose a fixed count-in regardless of other loops length/relative phase.)

    Hope that makes sense! Cheers.

  • @MonzoPro

Thanks for your slide over screen grab.
That function has made it so much easier to loop
and being able to access AUM at the same time.

Not having to toggle between windows is lovely.

All I'm patiently waiting for now are multiple in's and out's.

    Brilliant.

Dear Gravitas - I loaded your setup into AUM - and started some looping into L7 - and yes, I made the same experiences as in my own setup - so the crackling is still there for me ... but I have already sent a detailed description and videos of screenrecordings to Daniel (one of the devs) - he said they will take a look and I am sure they will sort it out ...

But thanks again for your effort in trying to help me ....
