    Attention new app developers!
If you could make a very simple (VERY) DAW that:

    1. Records Audio (nothing crazy 44.1 or 48)
    2. Records Midi (nothing crazy I don't need an onboard keyboard) just the ability to capture the midi input
    3. The ability to edit the audio, (just cut, paste and move, delete and undo/redo)
    4. The ability to edit midi (just cut, paste and move delete and undo/redo plus draw notes and extend/shorten notes, quantize and velocity)
    5. Has a time signature track to set and adjust tempo and time signature in a project
    6. A mix window with a stereo master fader
    7. The ability to add auv3 effects to individual mix faders as well as the master fader
    8. The ability to export individual Tracks as wav or midi (if there were audio or midi)
    9. The ability to export stereo wav
    10. A click track with a 2 bar lead in that can be turned on or off
    11. The ability to host Auv3 instruments and IAAP? I instruments
    12. External midi control of transport controls and mixer faders

    I would not need:

    Instruments included
    Drum pads, keyboard
    Time Stretch, looping, transpose
    Sampling
    Onboard effects
More than 24 tracks although I think I could do with as little as 12

I do not need more than one way to do anything, one way one button!

In fact I really hate multiple ways to do the same thing! It just becomes convoluted and distracting

I just want something simple, bare bones that works

I know people will say GB but that does a thousand things I don't need or want and only 10 out of the 13 I need. I would not call GB simple

I'd be dangerous if I could make an app 😁

    https://apps.apple.com/us/app/audio-evolution-mobile-studio/id1094758623

I thought I used to have this app, but it no longer shows on my downloads list. I remember distinctly buying some IAPs for it and now it shows £7.99 for me. I know I didn’t use it much, but I do hate having apps taken away from me.

If you ever purchased it, you can find it in your purchase history.

Yes, but you can hide purchased items from the list. I know I had the app and it’s definitely not in my list. I will contact the developer.

I am talking about the purchase history in the store not the purchased apps list. If it shows up in your purchase history (note the purchased app list which is different) but not in your purchased app list, you may need to get Apple support to straighten it out. I don't think app developers are able to hide/unhide apps.

Shit dude, didn’t even know we had a purchase history for apps. It doesn’t show the total cost does it!? Lol. Where do I find it?

It does. Do a web search for "app store complete purchase history"

omg. But is there some way to find out the grand total amount spent? Like I want to know... but I also don't because I'm scared..... but I'm also really curious lol...

Found it. Cost me £5.99 for the pro version and then I bought some of the add ons.

As for the prices, it shows my music bought mixed in too, so I would have to go through the years and add them up. I’m too afraid to do it! I know I must have spent at least £2000 on apps by now.

The developer is powerless in this case. They don't receive any information about who purchases through the app store. No apple ID, no email address, no name, nothing. The developer might be able to shed light on any free vs. paid changes that may have happened. The developer might be talked into providing you a code if he has any available. But other than that only Apple can handle this, if indeed the app did change status for you somehow. It'd be the first I've ever heard of that, but that's not saying it's impossible.

I do hope you can sort it out though.

It's a cross platform app. Maybe you had it on Android? Just a thought.

This is very strange. I purchased AEM in the first days when it was still free and it still shows in my Purchased history.
The only thing I can imagine is that you're trying to see this on an iPhone and AEM wasn't iPhone-compatible in the first place. Bug Apple for not fixing their App Store bugs.

Good point there. That does happen. When it does, you have to go all the way through just as if you're purchasing it. Only after it looks like you've re-purchased the app does it tell you that you already purchased it and would you like to download it for free. Of all the many dumb things in the app store that's the dumbest.

I think your DAW would be Logic Pro X. Just don't use the iPad.
I have never seen any DAW, not even on desktop, that has made everyone happy.
Hey, even I am using different ones depending on what I want to achieve.

I guess that's one of the reasons why developers start building a new DAW from time to time:
To satisfy their own idea of how a DAW should look like in the first place.

  • Funny, I’d say it’s down to what you’re used to: I use Auria for MIDI all the time, composing even, and not only I love the interface now that I am used to it, I also find some of its features indispensable to my workflow (eg.: the ability of see and edit multiple MIDI channels without ever leaving the edit window).

I am just giving up on IOS for professional recording. I don't do straight 4/4 120 bpm all in the box
    I sequence some stuff
I record midi but I don't quantize, (even drums!)
    I record multiple vocal tracks
I record both analog and digital synths
I like to use outboard effects
I really tried to do it but it just isn't there

Cubasis is not a complete Daw and IMHO they really dropped the ball and insulted their customer base but mucking up 2 and pooping out 3

NS2 is not a Daw at all but a great sequencer!

And I never tried Auria Pro I heard about too many problems with midi and it crashing

    Back to Pro Tools

Yep, treat iPad as mobile sketchpad/instrument/sequencer etc. and use the computer for pro recording.

I've been a Logic user for a long time.

I have absolutely no desire to have it on iOS. It would have to be so different to the desktop version it might as well have a different name.

A more capable GarageBand would be nice though. Perhaps even a Pro version.

    Same.

  • @BroCoast
I beg to differ. NS2 does support audio tracks, only in a way that is unlike other DAWs handle it and without waveform display on the timeline - which is moved to in-Slate audio editing.

NS2 does not claim to be a DAW. The dev has been clear about that. Yes, you can get audio in to trigger, but for most people that have non-keyboard audio tracks to record and integrate, the workarounds are cumbersome. So, I think one should be careful about making it sound like audio tracks are truly supported. They will be one day, but for now, NS2 is a great sequencer with a nice integrated sampler that can be used to play audio.

They will be one day, but for now, NS2 is a great sequencer with a nice integrated sampler that can be used to play audio.

If Slate could simply load a long wav file to a pad and then just let me adjust ranges non destructively it would cut my pining for audio tracks in half. i just HATE having to crop and save and file manage simply when experimenting and being creative. Just let me crop and save at the end if I like.

Not to mention that mandatory 'have to save before being able to use' approach with the senile destination and format dialogue which takes all the joy out of spontaneous sampling and having to choose where to use the sample obsidian or slate in advance...

I mean one can't even preview the sample using keyboard at different pitches while trimming and setting the loop points like WTF really...

  • Surely NS2 won't stand the comparison with classic audio tracks that can be edited on the timeline and I agree that sample start, end and loop points should be non-destructive wave properties.

  • If/when Cubasis gets the Cubase Sampler Track added it will be (for me) quite hard to beat.
Mostly I just use single samples that sometimes get looped, sliced and passed thru filters and effects.

There must be a future for Cubasis 4. 😅

Yah that would be sweet and make Cubasis an on paper contender. Too bad moving clips on the timeline is screwed for me on my 2017 devices and they can't repro it. Looks like I am just SOL. :(

Is the moving clips thing the issue in which the app doesn’t scoot to the left to accommodate the clips moving to the right?
    (If I recall you’re using a 10.5 pro)

That is one issue. Also, it happens left, right and top / down. That is not the deal breaker though which is the fact that trying to move clips often just pans the timeline for me as though my finger is not over a clip.

  • I’m unable to select multiple clips by tapping and dragging. Tapping each one individually gets old pretty fast.

Does it work if you tap the select icon in the upper left first and then long press on blank space before drawing a square?

I beg to differ. NS2 does support audio tracks, only in a way that is unlike other DAWs handle it and without waveform display on the timeline - which is moved to in-Slate audio editing.

I didn't say anything about NS2 or audio tracks lol. 🤷🏻‍♂️

  • Hi guys I Listned to what you said and went and bought Audio Evolution Mobile Studio..... no tempo/time signature change in a project!

At least it was only 8 dollars this time
