If things get worse, perhaps that headline in a few weeks will be Italians over 70 left to die. Other countries, faced with no others options if overwhelmed, probably start to follow Italy's lead.

It’s the only logical conclusion unless it can be slowed down, medical supplies produced etc

On March 2, CureVac's then-CEO Daniel Menichella attended a meeting at the White House to discuss coronavirus vaccine development with Trump and members of his coronavirus taskforce.

On March 11, the company announced Menichella would be replaced by company founder Ingmar Hoerr, without giving a reason why.

hihi, its pretty obvious what went on. EX-CEO went to make deals with orange man.
ex CEO was fired 9 days later. ;)
Noone trusts the ethics of the orange man.

If trump has even tried this for the US alone he’s just booked his brain aeration appointment.

they say it was talks about an exclusive deal.
    so he has tried it!

He certainly knows how to make enemies.

Just to leaven the hatred I feel for the fucking grifter in the Whitehouse,
I’ll share an encounter from on the ground as we enter the Plague Years: my wife went to the Vons (grocery in LA) she went early to avoid the crowd
    She sent me this picture

I thought oh man the zombies, they’ll trample each other going for the toilet paper (I’ve seen the Tiktoks from Costco)

When they opened the doors, she told me everyone was so incredibly lovely towards each other, at the doorway, in the aisles, at the checkout, that my wife wept in the car afterwards.

(Checkers we’ve known for years asked about our kids, one of the baggers even slipped her free boxes of pasta)...

Put a smile on my face and lifted my spirit, thanks <3

  • On those occasions when we are out, let’s help educate people about keeping their distance from each other. I had to pick up some medicine at the drugstore (nerve-wracking for me since I live in an area with a lot of community spread and know that sick people are going to be going to the drug store) and there were people queued up close to each other. I hated to be “that guy” and asked people to stand at least 6 feet away from each other. There were a few eye rolls but people did it. Someone asked why and when I explained there were a few eye rolls and many thanks. People saying that they weren’t aware of that. As I left, I heard the cashier asking people to spread out. She also hadn’t known.

There is not much official leadership educating people about what to do. So, we need to let people know and have them pass it on.

The best case is that in a few weeks people will think we were over-reacting because our APPROPRIATE action helped avert catastrophe.

As the linked article points out that anecdotal stuff is the exception, just as my wife’s experience is the exception. It’s all exceptional: 8 billion people on the planet are not all going to do the same thing in exceptional times.

Yup and of course the media brings out the worst in everything.

    Because...people.

While “the media” often amplifies bad information, media consumers share some responsibility, too. They can take advantage of our worst instincts because we have those worst instincts.

True dat. It is good to look at everything with heavy filters, skepticism and oh what the hey, old schoole out of fashion optimism doesn’t hurt too.

  • Comparisons to the flu leave out one thing... most experts seems to think Coronavirus began in the wet markets of China. These incredibly inhumane slaughterhouses mix species from several continents. Controlled by mafia style criminals they are widespread in S.EcAsia and Asia. Like drug operations, when shut down they simply move. Coronavirus will not be the last pandemic spawned in these animal concentration camps...

I’ve just been for a long walk. Normally around here no-one says hello to me (to be fair, I do look a bit of a shifty bugger), but today it was all smiles and friendly hellos. Maybe this situation will bring a lot of us together, as well as the inevitable riots.

Also saw my 80 something neighbour, and confirmed we’d put a card through his door with our number on it, just in case they needed any food or help (70+ are being told to stay indoors here).

As long as they don’t ask for loo roll. It’s as scarce as golden unicorns in town.

  • Some memes to leverage the different mortality rates Covid-19 has on generations for your posting pleasure.

  • @Littlewoodg good story and heartening also. We are the people, as always, in the end. BUT I have to say that the first 90% of your post's perfect appeal was that pic. A second unit director couldn't have cued it up better: SUBURBAN ZOMBIES! :)

In the U.S. they might consider selling lotto tickets to prop up the flagging stock market with hospital beds and a lifetime supply of toilet paper for the lucky winners. They’ve used lotto sales across the country to fund the educational system so this should be a solution with bipartisan support.

  • To the person that recently posted about this all being much ado about nothing and others sympathetic but silent to his point of view. In Italy, there have been 1800 deaths from Coronavirus.

Just two weeks ago, there had been 21.
One week ago, there had been 233
    Today the total is 1809

At this rate, the death toll in Italy will be close to 16,000 BUT hopefully the lockdown that went in place there will have had some effect...in which case the total will be less.

If you see total deaths in Italy at less than 16,000 seven days from now that does not mean this is much ado about nothing...it means forcing people into semi-quarantine has had an effect.
