To the person that recently posted about this all being much ado about nothing and others sympathetic but silent to his point of view. In Italy, there have been 1800 deaths from Coronavirus.

Just two weeks ago, there had been 21.
One week ago, there had been 233
    Today the total is 1809

At this rate, the death toll in Italy will be close to 16,000 BUT hopefully the lockdown that went in place there will have had some effect...in which case the total will be less.

If you see total deaths in Italy at less than 16,000 seven days from now that does not mean this is much ado about nothing...it means forcing people into semi-quarantine has had an effect.

For context, from 2013-2017, the average annual death toll in Italy from the flu was 15,000.

Americans go out and brag about not using any social distancing— another reason to stay home. Perhaps they’ll decide to institute martial law at some point if this continues?

    It is a beautiful shot.

Snow days, when school, offices, and the roads are closed. No work tomorrow, let's go get wasted tonight! Grabs car keys.

Tomorrow there is a talk in German Bundestag
One of the bulletin points is vaccine
I bet this will be pretty interesting ;)

If I was the British Queen I would say: We are not amused.

She may say that in her Easter speech.

  • I need to get this off my chest. We have these great raging conversations and at some point we start
attacking each other and they shut it down.

DO NOT ATTCK ANY OTHER MEMBER. There are so many targets to choose from if you're angry right now.

As an example: The @Linearlineman is an estimated target because he relishes using his fists and can throw a mean punch. "Why are you taking his side?" Because he's a regular and we support each other here. If you can't that means you might be the problem. Just a thought for anyone that starts fights just
'cause. After it goes viral then the bar gets shut down and that's on you, IMHO.

DO NOT ATTCK ANY OTHER MEMBER. That's also for my hot headed friends. Be best. No dumb.

Um ... but @LinearLineman has been the only one trying to pick a fight, at least over the last several pages. (And I don’t begrudge him that BTW.)

Happily no-one really took the bait. Things have stayed pretty civil, with anger directed mainly toward politicians, not each other as far as I can see.

  • @wim...quite agree and good response.

I could go back and read the record and see if I agree but seriously. If he erred we should still keep letting him rant. I suspect he was attacking people outside the forum but many here could see that as a personal attack .Sometimes we all use a current rant to settle an old score too. It's hard to deal with issues of identity. Talking shit about (choosing wisely grasshopper) Lutherans might get someone to call you an asswipe. Still... to err is human and we're all HUMANS here, right?

@dawdles was a human in a lot of pain... probably still is. Attacks are just not cool, even of someone is
just plain wrong. Talk them down from the ledge if need be. Try humor, logic, or distraction.

You can be sure @Linearlineman has known his share of pain. After all he's addicted to improvising jazz
in an age of computerized music. He a monk without a church or sect. At least he can find distractions for his pain if not relief.

Busted. Flattery and all that. People who make jokes on forums really don't do it for the laughs. It's
the creative act. Go figure. Why Art? Don't you have something better to do all day? There's something better?

Yes! Arguing about politics is a far more productive use of time. It’s a shame iOS music making has given us all such a pervasive distraction from this essential social art.

  • edited March 2020

@McD, relax, nothing too serious is going on here, IMO, Not like the racist threads in days of yore. I think the regulars know where I am coming from and tolerate it when I open up now and then. @Michael seems to. I haven’t been issued a stern warning. It seems those that are upset by me are often those who raise the eyebrows of others.

I think only when we see the irrational reasoning of extremists that we stay conscious that when it comes down to it it is individuals who fuel the fires of ignorance and intolerance. That’s why I complained about the mellowness of this supposed rant thread. And, also, there is always the chance some hero of the right might actually make sense with cogent, convincing argument. Either of those results would have enriched this conversation, IMO. Unfortunately, we only got the lowest rung of the alt right and a member who thinks I am a troll. I think the sensitive conservatives amongst us just feel they will not get a fair hearing. That we are basically liberal thinkers here ( I don’t mean politically). I mean liberal as more free thinking. More global and less tribal. Less xenophobic and less caught in the web of traditional religions. Spiritual, non reactionary artist types who, thankfully, still have a part of them that hasn’t grown up. But maybe that is just wishful thinking on my part.

@wim, I am not the only one who has a taste for abstruse obtuse humor. The rest of youse are just afraid to admit you love @McD for being one of a kind, encyclopedic when it comes to music and a serious thinker. 💪🧠

Have you read the articles written by experts and analyzed them? It sounds like you are basing your conclusions on a distrust of the media rather than analysis of facts.

People choosing not to engage in social distancing are putting people's lives in danger.

There is a lot of science out there about this. I am not basing my conclusions based on popular media accounts. Plenty of articles detail the concepts and data behind the conclusion.

You should read and analyze them. If you find errors in the analysis other than "well I don't agree" please share. So we can give your analysis consideration in case you have figured something out that has eluded experts in epidemiology.

So it has come to light that Trump and his cronies tried to buy the exclusive rights for a vaccine from a German company... to be the exclusive property of the good ole USSA. The American CEO of the company has been fired and replaced by the German founder. The German government has publicly stated that any vaccine developed by the company will be available to the world. Die Welt, Reuter’s

Now think about that, my friends... and remember, Donald Trump has saved the world.

I'll bet he made him an offer he couldn't refuse. The Leopard cannot change his spots. This is the way he does business and everything is transactional and he prefers win/lose outcomes. His fans love that... a winner. Like Michael Corleone without the intelligence... just the same well greased moral compass.

How but them one liners, @LinearLineman? Chuckles abound.
