where does he gets his suits from?
    they dont fit ^^

He was a "Talk Radio" personality before getting elected as the Governor of Indiana.
Neither job requires proper fitting suits so he's thrust onto the National Stage looking
like he doesn't belong. It also explains the flies... farm boy with "fly perfume". Another reason why Kamala wanted the odor barriers. Trump smells awful too... bad gums and
excessively gassy. Biden smells like cookies and Kamala smells like an air freshener.

  • FWIW, the Republicans are increasingly saying that democracy is not something that the government strives to achieve. Per GOP Senator Mike Lee (this morning): "Democracy isn’t the objective; liberty, peace, and prosperity are. We want the human condition to flourish. Rank democracy can thwart that."

Keep in mind that by "liberty", he means for wealthy white fundamentalist christians. "Prosperity" means the wealthy not paying taxes. By "human condition", he means those that support his party.

There's a very large and well funded group of Republicans that following the philosophy
of Ayn Rand... they had there own Party called Libertarians but they soon realized they couldn't get any power from the outside so they moved into the Republican Party and rose to positions of power.

Bernie did the same thing from the a Socialist perspective by running as Democrat.

There are factions within both parties vying for power and an implementation of their priorities.

Fox paints Biden as a Socialist and it has my sister scared to death that her country can fall
into the hands of socialists... while she uses Medicare, a State Government pension and Social Security to fight off cancer. She's loosing it and has joined the Cult. We talk about our pets to avoid fighting. She's an adopted Catholic now and loves Trump's support for "Pro Life" judges.

Yeah I saw that Tweet. They're not even hiding it anymore. Cue the sheep blathering on about "republics", there really isn't any low they won't sink to.

The "republic not a democracy" crap that is a recurrent and fairly modern right-wing talking point -- there are a lot of writings by the authors of the U.S. constitution that (their exclusion or women, slaves and native Americans not withstanding) make clear that the goal was representative democracy. The GOP has needed to increasingly find justifications for minority rule as they find their positions rejected by an increasing majority of Americans. They have become increasingly reliant on white supremacists and Christian extremists (white evangelicals and conservative Catholics -- whose views are at odds with mainstream Catholics). They have won the popular vote for the presidency only 1 time since 1994. Our peculiar way of appointing judges is in the hands of the Senate whose representation is not based on population. So, for decades small predominantly white states have had a disproportionate impact. The senate's republican majority represents a minority of the U.S. population. Over the coming years -- as they represent a smaller and smaller percentage of the population -- republicans will be able to maintain a senate majority with the support of just over 1/3 of the U.S. population. Since changing the Constitution requires assent of two-thirds of the states, it is unlikely that this will change.

Btw, a significant number of people live in Washington D.C. and Puerto Rico -- neither of which have a senator because they aren't states.

  • On the "Pro Life" front, the Conservative Evangelicals have opposed the use of stem cells
because they are harvested from embryos which can be recovered in a variety of ways as a natural course of medical practices. But just the use of embryos strike a fear that abortions will happen to reap more stem cell materials.

So, stem cell research has been made illegal in some areas of the country and restricted national I believe.

But the news in this science confronting evangelicals is that Trump's chosen Covid "anti-body" cocktail was generated using stem cells. So, in a stretch you can connect dots and link the Covid anti-body medicine to abortions via stem cells. Not being well versed in science this loose connection of materials is enough to make whole use and distribution of this Covid treatment (which has yet to be proven effective) a threat to the unborn.

There's also indications that Trump might have a conflict of interest with the company that makes the antibody cocktail and his use of it and endorsement as a "miracle cure" suspect.
He's always working the angles for personal gain and this is typical of his interest in the business of big pharmaceuticals. Qui Pro Trump. Veni vidi douchi.

  • One of the crazy COVID-related arguments being made by the GOP: Trump's leadership saved millions of lives (yes, Pence, said millions) AND COVID is not a big deal and we should just go back to business as usual.

By their own logic this means: "business as usual will result in millions of deaths (in the U.S.)"

  • Instant Replay:

Before the postmodern era, authoritarians ruled by promulgating a single lie and enforcing it publicly with the threat of violence. But Putin has managed to exert enormous political power, as well as personally enrich himself, for nearly 18 years by taking a very different approach. Rather than spreading a fixed line of propaganda, Putin deliberately sows chaos and confusion. Not one official capital-T Truth, but numerous conflicting, equally plausible (or even a mix of plausible and implausible) truths.

It won't be more than a few hours before Trump ties the kidnappers to a "left wing" group like "people who live in Democrat's Michigan": a state riddled with democrats in the "infested" cities like Detroit (dog whistle).

The Governor probably drove them crazy by making them wear masks at a steak house so their plans are justified after being infected with high levels of liberals in power: Freedom and protecting americans cattle industry.

    Hits all the buttons, right?

And guess who caught them and stooped the plan? Trump's FBI. Sure it's a win for his administration when the police in Michigan needed his help and
he pitched in even tho' "She a nasty woman" and that state is a shit hole which is sad because so many good people are trapped there and want to remove her. Circularity in his story is a strength for Trump. I call it "Having your head up your ass."

I had some sleazy stuff from one of those organizations in my mail.
It had a fetus doll in it with a lable : peter 16 weeks is able to hear.

it also had a free shipping back envelope.
I did send them what was on the catbox.
    never heard back of them.

Apparently they bear the cost of what you send back by weight with those mailers. I forget which offensive group it was for, but there was an online suggestion some years back to package up a house brick, tape the envelope to the top of it, then mail it...

So this seems like climate change v2, sow confusion by amplifying disagreement within the scientific community, with the bulk taking one stance and a minority taking the other. Frame the argument around freedom, harming the economy and the western way of life, ignore all evidence to the contrary, tarnish the other side as alarmists and saboteurs, then profit.

Things that stick out for me are, even if herd immunity doesn’t get officially implemented the damage is done and we move from pandemic phase to it becoming seasonally endemic. Tories plan, by tories I mean dominic cummings who is their brain, was always heard immunity which is why even with lockdown and other measures, things were never bought under control, mixed messaging, incompetence and blaming the public.

Allowing a sars virus we know little about to run rampant, runs the risk of mutations forming, spreading widely quickly as we’ve abandoned containment and suppression strategies, what happens if a strain develops that leaves children or young adults susceptible.

Talking about shielding vulnerable groups, as that worked out so well during the first peak, its almost like these rational scientists forgot one major detail of their plan, good governance, which is lacking in both the u.s and u.k.

Having a focus on sweden, which seems strange due to sweden being a civilised society for the most part, having a balance between people, profit and quality of life, an egalitarian society. In contrast u.s and u.k are elitist societies, ran by imbeciles who think mistakes are what inferior people make, not the sort of position you want to be in during a pandemic.

Ignoring swedens neighbours, who took a different approach and had less deaths and still managed to come out of it without too much damage to the economy. Ignoring other countries ran by competent people who suppressed the first outbreak peak, have a viable identification, tracing and isolation system in place and have returned to near enough normalcy whilst being vigilant.

The main part of what the three esteemed scientists are saying even though I don’t see any peer reviewed research papers from them regarding covid-19, basically boils down to, we need to re-evaluate lockdown as it’s causing too much harm in terms of job losses, mental health, physical health and education especially the young and other vulnerable groups, all fair enough, lockdown sucks.

What’s missing is the affect having a dodgy tory government in charge is doing for people’s mental health and well being, double standards, boris’s dad and dominic cummings spring to mind. Having dumb lockdown rules, you can’t see friends or family, unless in support bubble, in their homes or even in their gardens, but you can go to the pub with 6 other people. It’s these dolts that all the scientists and others are relying on to deliver heard immunity safely, jesus wept.

This is exactly what's going on. It's the Tobacco playbook and the Climate Change playbook all over again. Business interests threatened by government action which impacts their profits. They know they can't win the argument because the balance of scientific evidence is just too overwhelming. But you can always find/fund some White Coats to make your case and cast enough doubt to delay, reduce or prevent the action necessary to protect society as a whole.

This is brilliantly documented in this excellent BBC series.

@Mark B this is the agenda you're supporting, either intentionally or unwittingly...

  • From BuzzFeed:

So, if you're curious, here are 12 countries that had fewer new cases of the coronavirus this week than the White House:

(This data was pulled from the World Health Organization and is current as of Oct. 8, 2020.
While the White House has at least 34 active cases right now...)

    1. New Zealand had 16 new confirmed cases this week.
The White House has more than twice the number of new cases as the entire country of New Zealand.

    2. Vietnam had four new confirmed cases this week.
The White House has more than eight times the number of new cases in Vietnam.

    3. Papua New Guinea had seven new confirmed cases this week.
The White House is dealing with about five times as many new cases.

    4. Sudan had 28 new confirmed cases this week.
That's six fewer than the White House.

    5. Yemen had 18 new confirmed cases this week.
About half of what the White House is dealing with.

    6. Liberia had 11 new confirmed cases this week.
The White House has more than three times as many cases.

    7. Cambodia had four new confirmed cases this week.
That's 30 fewer than the White House.

    8. Malawi had 30 new confirmed cases this week.
The White House has four more.

    9. Botswana had zero new confirmed cases this week.
The White House has 34 more.

    10. Barbados had 13 new confirmed cases this week.
Just over a third of the White House's number.

    11. Tanzania had zero new confirmed cases this week.
That's 34 fewer than the White House.

    12. Bhutan had 22 new confirmed cases this week.
The White House has 12 more new cases than the nation of Bhutan.

    13. Finally, here are two countries that had slightly more new cases than Trump's White House this week. Thailand had 53 new confirmed cases.
This means the White House has 19 fewer cases than the entire country of Thailand.

    14. And Australia had 104 new confirmed cases this week.
The White House alone has about one-third the new cases as the entire country of Australia.

And God only knows how many millions of flys will test positive because of Pence...
