If you’re so worried about being perceived as xenophobic, that you won’t take steps to protect Americans, you don’t deserve to be president.

then surely you don't deserve to be president if you actually are xenophobic... xenophobia protects Americans even less than being worried about the perception....

    that's how credibility works

If you think, my belief that we should block travel from a country in the middle of a highly contagious outbreak makes me xenophobic, you might just be a liberal!

They just can't be taken seriously.

  • If you'd like to understand the roots of this eras unraveling check out "The Fifth Risk" by Michael Lewis:

Michael Lewis’s brilliant narrative of the Trump administration’s botched presidential transition takes us into the engine rooms of a government under attack by its leaders through willful ignorance and greed. The government manages a vast array of critical services that keep us safe and underpin our lives from ensuring the safety of our food and drugs and predicting extreme weather events to tracking and locating black market uranium before the terrorists do. The Fifth Risk masterfully and vividly unspools the consequences if the people given control over our government have no idea how it works.

    perfectly summed...

I had no idea President Trump was an audiobus user, otherwise your post was completely detached from reality, I thought we were talking about Trump and Biden

  • Biden isn't worried about being perceived as xenophobic - he's telling Trump to act like a leader like W did immediately after 9/11.

We don't need Americans going out attacking and killing Asian Americans, like the 'revenge-killings' of Arabs that happened all over the world after 9/11.

  • The Chinese government, on the other hand....

I believe that you are misrepresenting what Biden said and underplaying the enormity , in number and scale , of Trump's pandemic mistakes.

Ah, but Hillary and Bill are part of the reason why China's economy skyrocketed over the past 25 years. And the Clinton's have made a ton of money from China. The Clinton's are corrupt too. You should see the insides of their homes.

Too bad Ivanka wasn't standing next to Jared during the press conference.

Like I said, mistakes are going to be made. Would we have been better off with Biden in office, pandering to the left and China with identity politics? I think you know the answer to that question.

I like to think of myself as a non-judgmental moderate. I'm a firm believer in giving credit where due, but also acknowledging failure as a necessary part of improvement. Trump was willing to close down air travel more quickly than I suspect most other leaders would have been, and I was glad of that regardless of his motivations. In fact, I was supportive of him going further faster than he did to restrict travel from other countries. We had an opportunity there to gain control over the situation by means of restricting national access and aggressive testing, but "mistakes were made" and we were unable to capitalize on the situation. Ultimately, that's a failure on his administration's part despite some things done well. It's like taking a math test and getting a 49% (like someone's approval rating)...you got some things right but still failed the test. Admittedly, by my calculations, if Trump is passing, it can't be by much... I thought his first national address about the pandemic was a high point of his public addresses and left me feeling bolstered. Conversely, I've watched his briefings pretty consistently and they've ranged from serious to hopeful to largely uninformative to absolute train wreck. Lately, I am proud and relieved that he seems to have come around to giving the situation the urgency it deserves, but afraid that the delay will be paid in many lives. Some people are unable to find anything but fault with the man, while others refuse to recognize any fault whatsoever. Both sides are equally damaging to the success of our nation. If people are not recognizing successes AND failures, then they are not being honest with themselves or fair to their fellow Americans. Leadership is about bringing your whole team together to work towards a common goal despite disagreements. Most of the time, Trump more resembles a sports coach, and he has defined his opponents as the other half of America. There is no winning that way. Perhaps we'd all do better to stop electing leaders who are 30+ years past their prime and expecting them to do a great job on our behalf.

I agree that we don’t need Americans out attacking and killing Asian Americans (or anyone else for that matter. It’s never even crossed my mind that was a response Americans would take though. Sometimes it seems to me that Trump believes we’re actually better people than liberals do though. Liberals see an undisciplined, uneducated America that resorts to violence and racism. Trump sees an America that comes together during hard times. Should he have given a heartwarming speech that we’re all citizens of the world united by our humanity, and that despite restricting travel, we need to stand together in spirit - when shutting down the border? Yeah, I suppose that would have been nice, but that’s just not the kind of leader he is. He did what he had to do despite criticism by the Democratic nominee.

By the way, Joe continued to criticize Trump for the US State Department’s guidance to Americans that they should not travel to affected areas of China. That was great advice and real leadership. Joe would have stayed silent and put many more Americans at risk.

but the issue though that the right is having is that it doesn't matter if the Clintons are corrupt (I've never seen their house haha), and it doesn't matter if Trump's IQ is ill-equipt to comprehend Obama having good grades in school.... that has nothing to do with all of the licenses that the Kushner family and Ivanka got from china. I'm sorry to inform you that Trump has called for violence at his rallies and been racist himself and I'm not just talking about saying judges with Mexican heritage can't be honest or eluding to the notion that cubans can't be evangelicals, President Trump hasn't done anything to try to bring people together or even other politicians for that matter like he said in his own voice and words he tells Mike pence not to call people he doesn't like, and that's during a pandemic!!!.... the closest thing he's ever done to try to bring Americans together is claim that nazis are very fine people too... I'm sorry but that's not how credibility works.

there is a difference between a farce and the truth.... all of this is quantifiable.

  • Trump never said Nazis are very fine people. Shame on you for perpetuating that lie.

I'm the one who called the nazis nazis, he said very fine people, but you know that don't you.
Trump supporters are giving up on trying to hide the facade and going for outright, transparent, detraction.... and yes I know that's an oxymoron :D

He didn’t, and you know that.

Here’s an article on the subject

you keep quoting me from an alternate reality, I never said he 'said' nazi, look at my comment again... I called the people he called fine people nazis.... it's not rocket science just pay attention and you'll see that I'm not the only thing you tune out, you also tune out the lies that your president tells and that propaganda spit about him trying to bring people together or that liberals are making him out to be racist and violent instead of himself being racist and violent exudes the level of detach on hand.... you must not think that's him in that last video lol
but look I don't want to argue at you personally, only debate with you on the issues but if you think that the man in those videos is not actually Donald trump then I'm going to have to respectfully disagree with you

  • @robertreynolds said:

True, he didn’t literally praise Nazis.

He said that there were very fine people on both sides of the rally in Charlottesville. One side was chanting “Jews shall not replace us”. There were exactly 0 fine people on that side. Maybe they weren’t literally Nazis, but there are no fine people that support that view, imo. If they give up those views and work to repair the damage they have done by spreading hate, they can become fine people.

he knows it.... trump supporters won't even admit to what the two sides were, but you can't have an honest discussion with a dishonest broker.

I'm not against them having their opinions, it's the lying about it that irritates me... just say out of the two sides President trump spoke about , you support the side with the tiki torches and then we can have an honest, respectful, courteous discussion. :)

Good for Trump for restricting air travel from China early. So did many other countries. So did several airlines without any governments' involvement. It was the right thing to do. Nothing to do with xenophobia whatsoever.

Liberals see an undisciplined, uneducated America that resorts to violence and racism. Not true of most liberals.

Sure, it would've helped Trump to give an uplifting Obama-like speech, but that's not his nature. And that's the problem, he never learned how to keep his mouth shut, and let the experts speak, because he's always been the boss. He's too selfish and egotistical to do that. He sees everything as $$$ signs. He doesn't understand that his rambling hunches matter. And yes, the media sometimes takes his remarks way out of context. And idiots marching with Tiki torches listen to his words, are unable to think logically, or to think for themselves; it's probably similar to a young Muslim who straps a bomb to his chest because that ignorance is what he's been taught. Well, I hope it's not.

Millions of $$$ worth of antique Chinese treasures and furniture given as 'gifts' from China, floor to ceiling, in each of the Clinton's homes. Lobbyists wrapping gifts to Congress members in uncut dollar bills. Super PACS. The whole system is corrupt, and has been for a long time.

that's crazy, but apparently some people think this whole system that has been corrupt for a long time is no longer corrupt with our new king , king trump the emoluments killer.

I don't know if I agree about him keeping his mouth shut though, I don't think it's his ego that his mouth is telling on, it's his other attributes.... you may have hit on something though, maybe he's not unlike those young muslims indoctrinated into hatred that you spoke of being that his father was a klansmen and his hero?
