every crisis uncovers what people really are... their true character...

before this one i thought about Trump he is only a bit less intelligent clown.. Not too smart, funny, but not too dangerous.

Now i don't think that - i thing he is really stupid evil asshole, really dangerous one. I deeply wish he will loose in next elections - there is probably no worse person to be president of US than this stupid yellow head... It's bad for whole world when head of one of most powerful countries in the world is such evil moron.

Very interesting, thanks for posting. It's like that other "spontaneous" movement, the Tea Party, which seemed to vanish right around January 2017...

  • why are these fools even wearing mask... lol... let them eat covid-19 cake, just don't let them harm anyone else.

  • Very damning report from the sunday times centred around boris’s handling of the crisis and the run up to this disaster. Thing that puzzles me about this is, why is this move being made now, does rupert want boris gone? He’s still happy via fox to cheerlead for trump, who is more incompetent than boris.

Maybe put the lesser spotted hairless mole gove into number 10, who’s just as delinquent as boris. Excellent bit of journalism tho, now if you will excuse me, I need to bathe after praising a piece in a murdock owned paper, I’m feeling stanky.

  • Not sure if that’s paywalled as I’ve got access to Apple news though a friend so here’s another link that’s being passed around to the article above

Thanks, I was trying to figure out a way passed the paywall, to be fair a smaller paper called the byline times has been covering all this in greater detail, surprised to see this in the times.

Oh NOW they realise Boris is a useless tosser.... 🙄 who could have known?

That’s why they would of supported him in the first place, useless front men are the standard unfortunately. They must see boris’s handling of this as a threat to their own interests, as they already knew he was a liability, yet still threw their weight behind him, now their using their weight to throw him under the bus.

I’m in the middle of an excellent book called, Mindf*ck: Inside Cambridge Analytica’s Plot to Break the World, goes into detail about all the psychological warfare operations that have led to this period of what the fuckery. Written by a whistleblower, who helped refine the technology and techniques, worked at a division of scl before they got bought out and utilised against civilians, but it’s just one piece of the puzzle. There was a deal on, not sure if it still is, at amazon for audible, 3 months for 99p, you get 3 free downloads with it, got this book first, nice behind the scenes look at the dynamics causing so much grief.

  • I actually get the feeling that Murdoch and co are now nervous that Johnson will actually have some good feeling towards NHS and society in general and are getting the boot in early so that they can off him whenever he goes off script...

  • Definitely seem like their hedging their bets as the sun is still in puff piece mode, think you have a good point tho about worrying boris isn’t ruthless enough, even tho he’s a callous mofo. Only problem is the tory party is stacked high with turdery, seems like all their recent leaders, are worse than the previous one, I never thought I’d say this in public or even think it, but I miss david cameron.

Murdoch always plays multiple angles. The WSJ here has both ridiculous Trump boosterism and Trump-critical articles. A cynic might think that critical coverage is intended to remind the pols who’s boss.

Can you give a brief summary? I just read Moscow Times and it appears they are taking half-measures
after starting to see widespread infections rates. A rehearsal for a military parade has led to quarantining all involved after some infections were detected.

  • ahh mother Russia, the new fatherland.... its not surprising why the rightwing has fallen in love with Russian politics, I imagine for the rightwing Russia is like the old fantasy island tv show, a place where they can go on vacation to assault gay people in public and not get arrested for it. Yeah Putin's ideals have made huge strides in the rightwing community but that's to be expected since they're hardly distinguishable

    …etc.

Why Sweden mixed in there? Finland and Norway are doing well. Sweden not so much.

What is happening in Russia is not entirely clear.

  • Saw a small segment on BBC News about the Russian Covid situation, the queue of ambulances waiting to drop off patients at a Moscow hospital, looked like rush hour on the M25.

Thanks... the story is much clearer there. Russia took a lot more proactive and effective steps early than I was assuming and seemed to confirm (probably by scanning for evidence of assumptions) from the Russia Times info. That's really what most seem to use News for now... to help support our biased views.

Sweden? Are you considering it a particular success?

It is doing much more poorly than Norway or Finland. And far worse than say Germany or California.

Last week, doctors there wrote a letter to the government asking the government to take stronger action. The deaths there have been about 156/million. Norway is at 32/million. Finland is at 18/million.

Germany is at 56/million. The U.S. is at 125/million (a huge percentage ina few states with deaths in the hundreds/million) . California is at 30. California has 4 times Sweden’s population and fewer deaths. I wouldn’t consider it a particular success.

Russia is a BIG question mark. I would NOT consider Wikipedia pages on a topic such as this to be a particularly reliable source without checking out other sources.

The President is telling the protesters that he supports them and that their governors are violating their rights while simultaneously putting out the guidelines that the protesters are violating and protesting against....

how is doing something like this during a pandemic not impeachable?

  • I've largely avoided posting here, simply because I don't like to advertise my personal politics generally, and certainly not on social media. I had a large rant post earlier, but I deleted it because it was more important that I type it out and hit send than I leave it here for others to stew on.

My wife came across this post on FB from Wil Wheaton (of Stand By Me and Star Trek TNG fame), reposted by a friend of ours. This sums up my feelings exactly, and is so beautifully worded it brings tears to my eyes, and rage to my heart.

'America had come together, setting aside all of our own wants and needs, to engage in the single greatest act of human kindness in history. We all stayed home, at great expense and inconvenience, so the most vulnerable among us wouldn’t die a preventable death.

I want you to think about this for a moment, before I continue: there is someone you love, who is at risk of serious infection and death, right now. I am staying home for that person, so you don’t lose someone you love. I am not the only person doing this. You’re doing this. Your family and your neighbors are doing this. We are, all of us, doing this, together, even though it is hard, it is scary, it is frustrating.

But we are doing it, together, because we care about our fellow humans.

A strong, moral, ethical, worthy leader will look at this tremendous sacrifice and ask themselves how they can honor it, how can they keep this going as long as possible, so the sacrifices we’ve made for a few weeks can be extended into months. We are doing this so people do not die.

That bears repeating: we are doing this so people we love do not die a preventable death.

America has the resources to ensure that staying home does not financially ruin anyone who is making this incredible, unprecedented, unselfish sacrifice right now. What America does not have, is the leadership to use those resources.

What America has is a vicious, selfish, incompetent, cruel, abusive, autocratic, impeached president who looked at all this sacrifice, who looked at Americans of all demographics and political beliefs, and saw an entire country setting aside its differences to work together so innocent people -- people we love -- do not die.

This man looked at that, and saw that it was a threat to his ambitions. Forget for a moment that it is entirely his fault that thousands of preventable deaths have occurred, and just reflect that his impulse is NOT to encourage and comfort millions of people who are scared and stressed out, but to hurt us, to abuse us, to risk our lives and the lives of our loved ones, because that man has no empathy, no compassion, no morality of any kind.

Thirty-three thousand humans have died in America since this pandemic hit our shores. According to scientists, 90% NINETY PERCENT of those deaths would not have happened, if only Trump had listened to experts and taken this seriously. If only Trump was a real leader, with compassion, empathy, and competence, tens of thousands of families would not be mourning the loss of a loved one.

America had come together to fight this. We mustered ourselves quickly and we were ready for a leader to help us take this commitment to join together and focus it, so we could get through this crisis as quickly as possible, with minimal disruption.
But the impeached president and his allies failed us. As they have done all along, they have put their narrow self interests ahead of the interests of the country, and ahead of the value of your life.

He is, right now, celebrating a fake “protest” that was organized and paid for by a right-wing organization controlled by the DeVos family. Right now, he is taking people’s fears and anxieties, and instead of using both the bully pulpit and a working relationship with congress to reassure and help them, he’s pouring gasoline on a fire.

And he is doing it because it’s all he knows how to do. This man doesn’t know how to be a leader. He doesn’t know how to be a human being who cares about others. He looked at an entire country coming together, and his impulse was to tear it apart.

Donald Trump looked at the single greatest act of human kindness in the history of our species, and he felt threatened by it. So he is doing everything he can to destroy it, to destroy us.

And for what? To consolidate his own money and his own power.

Rick Wilson says “everything Trump touches dies”. For tens of thousands of innocent Americans, he’s right.

A leader looks at the best impulses of their people in a crisis, and they celebrate, encourage, and support those impulses. A president cares about protecting their citizens above all else.

Trump is neither of those things. Trump is an abusive despot, out of his depth, incompetent and unqualified.

May history record that, when millions of Americans came together, unselfishly, in the greatest act of human kindness in history, Trump saw a threat to be destroyed.

We are nowhere near the end of this. We are probably not even at the end of the beginning of this. Trump, his fearful supporters, and his angry cultists, are going to make things so much worse than they would have been, because it’s all they know how to do.

    What a tragedy.'
