@knewspeak : you have asked a few times about what is needed to safely lift the lockdowns. Here is a good article talking about one aspect of it: contact tracing:

    https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/experts-think-we-need-an-army-of-public-health-workers-to-safely-return-to-normal/

I know I’ve asked several times, so define safely.

The notion of safely is somewhat ill-defined but roughly (as mentioned in other articles posted): low risk of a re-explosion that would require large-scale lockdown, low risk of overwhelming the health care system's ability to treat people.

If you haven't done so, read the various articles posted about this earlier in the thread. What is needed to reach those targets will be adjusted as we learn more but the broad strokes are still the same.

  • which one of them said don't believe what you see and what you hear?

    Pelosie or Trump?

  • That brings back memories. When I was a kid my parents had a wood paneled van just like that (except with no side window) and drove my sister and I and a poodle all over the American Southwest during the summers. One year we broke down in Death Valley. Good times and awful times all at the same time.

Several million checks from the IRS will be further delayed for several days because...

Trump insisted his signature be on them. No president has had a signature on an IRS disbursement according to the news.

Never mind people possibly starving, losing their homes, etc.

Good story but would like a source on that one.

The decision to have the paper checks bear Trump’s name, in the works for weeks, according to a Treasury official, was announced early Tuesday to the IRS’s information technology team. The team, working from home, is now racing to implement a programming change that two senior IRS officials said will probably lead to a delay in issuing the first batch of paper checks. They are scheduled to be sent Thursday to the Bureau of the Fiscal Service for printing and issuing.

In Unprecedented Move, Treasury Orders Trump’s Name Printed on Stimulus Checks

are you certain that it was Trump because on Fox News they said that Nancy Pelosi is very baaaaad , surely this is something that as a very baaaaad person she would do ... our great and powerful leader kim Putin Trump would surely never do such a thing right?

  • @ExAsperis99 Thank you.

  • I wish the press had put on this attention to detail about this blatant;y insane narcissists before he was made to appear like a safe option. They would have suffered for bias but let's face it... sometimes facts are biased against a candidate and people need the facts to
make informed decisions. They just gave him unlimited air time to play a role for the TV cameras and attack his critics... and it looks like they will do it again.

I hope they keep putting cameras on people that are doing the actual work of saving lives
and asking nothing for the honor of being of service.

President Egomaniac just wants people to know where there gratitude should lay or lie.

  • From what I've read, it turns out Trump isn't authorized to have his signature on checks (only the adults... heh). So, this is even worse, because his name can only be printed in the MEMO field. What a &$#%* this guy is.

The sea anemones have spoken. The glorious leader has determined that today the waves shall continue to break upon the shore as they did on previous days.

  • I wonder to what extent there is a connection between the implicit social-Darwinism of Ayn Rand-inspired libertarianism -- which is also popular among many in GOP -- and their relative lack of concern for beating the pandemic on a societal level. It seems that some in the privileged class are happy to let those that are less privileged be forced to put themselves at risk (by ending lockdowns prematurely) because they believe those that succumb to the disease are people dying due to their own inadequacy.

  • Someone seems to have an "instinct" for the perfectly wrong thing to do: defund the WHO. Break management communication internally and externally... "a stable genius".

GOP/Republicans always SAY they live by “survival of the fittest”, “pull up your boot straps” free market Capitalist ideals but whenever they run into financial issues or need assistance (bank loans, bail outs etc) its suddenly okay to need help from an outside entity. Hypocrites extraordinaire.

Right now in America, a MAGAt hat wearing Republican who screamed along at the Trump rallies “No socialism!!” is standing outside their mailbox screaming “Where’s my stimulus check?!” You can’t make this shit up.

Every warning that scholars, former senators & representatives and even those who now defend Trump the most (i.e. Lindsey Graham “He will destroy our party and we will deserve it”) has come to pass and then some. If Obama or Clinton had done HALF of what Trump has done FoxNews would crucify them and rightfully so. The right wing insult the worlds intelligence by standing silent while a sociopathic narcissist says & does things that no other President would EVER get away with.

They know how bizarre this all is but the fear of admitting they were wrong & succeeding power to the Democrats (who God forbid just might HELP PEOPLE) keep Republicans frozen in this bizarre waiting for the other shoe to drop existence we Americans and indeed the world have been living under for three plus years.

And to the OP’s point, YES there are many wealthy people who lean ultra Conservative who will gladly hide behind ivory towers as millions die keeping the world they rely on going. As long as they expand their obscene wealth, they don’t care about anything else. That is the barometer from which they live their lives, “how much money do I have?”

About 65 billionaires control almost 70% of the worlds wealth. If you think for one second they care if the Starbucks clerks have appropriate PPE you’re not watching closely enough. “I may have been born a silver spooned trust fund baby but THOSE people pump coffee to survive. If that’s the best they can figure out to do with their lives, fuck them.”

what is this guy talking about, will someone please hurry up and come get your crazy uncle donny, he'll be waiting out in the parking lot next to the snack stand.

  • In this difficult time some forum members have stopped commenting and one huge contributor deleted his account due to political/personal umbrage. Who needs to be checked on? Someone ask about @bedheadproducer and I never saw any resolution for example. Pick your forum top 10 and check for signs of life or PM them for status.

That is quite a profound statement. I overlooked it at first, but I think it may be true.

That confuses the idea of belief... it's a personal decision. You have that power over the world to choose what to believe. It does cut both ways... you can curate and produce volumes of data and someone will choose not to believe it means what it does. I guess that's the death of evidence as a tool for some sectors of society. Others will insist upon it.

I'd like as much as I can get when I need to make decisions but it also opens the door to endless analysis.

    Balance in all things.

stop lying donny, you didn't even know the world health organization even existed until the covfefe -19 hit.

now he's talking about all he's done for aids in Africa and how he's not gonna be a sucker anymore for charitable outreach work...

I wanna hear about his non-profit charity in New York... what happen to that charity?.. I'm sorry Mr. President Swampthing but that's not how credibility works.

  • I posted a link in the science thread. A large percentage (around 40%) of COVID-19 transmission may be caused by people that are pre-symptomatic:

Are you saying there is no such thing as objective truth? The earth is not flat, despite the absurd number of people who feel the urge to question the status quo. You don't need to open the door to endless analysis! Believe science! Stand on the shoulders of giants!

  • yep it's a choice, that's why I don't insult bad people by calling them ignorant in sincerity sure they're ijits, but they are not ignorant, they've made a choice on which side of humanity they want to be on... for it or against it.

just look at this guy then and now

According to the NYT, Trump acting 2 weeks earlier for social distancing etc. would’ve saved approximately 25,000 lives. And counting. (Up to 90% fewer deaths)

    Trump is a killer.
