I think the main problem that we have in this country is that there is nothing wrong with not being from here, but people and politicians like the president and his supporters who even have the audacity to refer to people born here as not real Americans, just because they don't look like them, or wear a tan suit, or drink lattes, or don't drive a truck etc.. lol shows exactly who and what we are. Imho we need to start teaching equality to kids in nursery school all the way through to college on a national scale because this trying to return to our roots or at least to the 50s is getting ridiculous. We live in a nation where people keep killing black people trying to start a race war and black people keep going to court, standing up and telling these terrorist that they love them, forgive them and pray for them...... its utterly bizarre .
we need to start teaching kids that there is no equivalency between racism and non-racism and that hating is a fucked up thing to do, albeit it's your right so keep the disease in your house and enforce keeping it away from others. I think if you can get your kids taken away for teaching them to smoke crack that you should get them taken away for being taught to go kill other people who don't have the same shade of pigmentation that you do, what is abuse if not training children to hate and harm others.
it's an uphill battle though for sure, it's 2020 and we are living in a nation where it's leader the president of the United States is offended by the very notion of equality.

I don’t think we have to teach nursery kids about equality, they don’t judge anyone by colour, it’s later they get taught to hate.

Do we look at the macro or micro? Obviously, in a decade hence, the loss of lives and collateral damage will be meaningless. Is it our flaw, as human beings, to worry what happens to the individual,
especially when spattered against the pan of history?

I had to look it up: spatter vs splatter?

To spatter means to scatter small particles of a substance.
To splatter means to scatter large particles of a substance.

    That didn't help.

It is not a flaw to worry about spattering or splattering humans against pans. I can only assume the spatter would be even more painful.

Is anyone proposing these solutions? How hot is the pan and does this dish get server to feed the masses? I didn't think heat killed the virus. Would microwaves work without the spattering and such?

I'm sure Trump will propose this in a few days and use spattering and splattering interchangably and the that will be the big story: Shoddy language skills.

  • @McD, as in “fat spattering in a pan”.. since one third of the US population is obese, and another third overweight, “spatter” is obviously the right term.

As far as “splatter” is concerned...
Dr. Samuel Johnson (Sammy to his friends) was at a party. He visited a lavatory, and upon returning, a Duchess noticed his unsightly appendage... “Dr. Johnson”, she sez, “Your whatsis is sticking out!”
Johnson, noticing his Johnson, sez “You splatter yourself, madam. It is merely hanging out”.
    Q.E.D. and Quid pro quo.

I wish it was only later, for most if not some it starts like everything else with the family, but no matter where or when if they are susceptible to that type of indoctrination, then that is the time to be teaching them different. If not at school, then where?... I've heard of kids being taught not to hate the police, why not not to hate anybody..and that we are all equal.

btw happy you and your family made it through the ordeal, life is precious.

    I don’t care about Covid-19.

I just go about my day as before, with my OCD.
    Been prepared for decades 🦠

We’ve got a little bed in the garden with strawberry plants. It gets totally choked with weeds, which grow back again in less than a week, totally covering the strawberry plants.

My current favourite OCD thing is to spend an hour, carefully removing the weeds, happy in the knowledge they’ll have grown back again in a few days time and I can do it all over again.

use boiling water on the weeds (eh not the weed)
that’s more effective than ripping it up. Every piece of the plant or root will grow up again, so boil the shit out of then. Boiling oil is also ok, and napalm is good but can fry the strawberries. You can also fasten crackers to every weed and chain then up to a nice little explosion. Remember to dip every cracker in gasoline. If you can get hold of a Tasmanian Monster, he will eat all shrubs, but maybe also your house, car, neighbours pets, neighbours... everything, so be aware. Plutonium is also a good choice, but you’ll have to have a radiation suit to cut move the lawn for 3000 generations. All in all, many good gardening tips, for free. Do it the easy way.

My god, we’re well into the twiglet zone, like we’re kids in the backseat of a car and dads not only drunk behind the wheel, but he’s also got a gun, turning around saying ‘don’t worry children I’ve got a plan’, ‘what’s the gun for dad’! ‘that’s for protection, just incase anyone tries to grab the wheel’😳😳

Turns at the sign that says, white cliffs of dover 5 miles, ‘dad why are we heading towards the cliffs’, ‘don’t be silly children, I’m following the science, the science of dominic cummings’, takes another big gulp of whiskey. My anxiety levels are through the roof, dodgy mofo’s don’t even want to share their plan with other, outside of sage scientists and specialists, for a bit of sweet relief peer review.

Who would of thought all these fake populists, that when they need to step up with all that alpha manliness they see as hereditary, to protect the people they claim to love, so so much, would fare so poorly, almost like they don’t give a shit. Brazil looks like its heading for a tragedy more extreme then the u.s and mister big balls has revealed himself to be a piglet, which I’m sure is very reassuring at this moment.

Keep advocating for justice and equality. Fight the battle for hearts and minds with your eloquence.

They experienced SARS back in 2003, which meant they had previous experience of a serious pandemic and acted early. In South Korea, Taiwan etc... they quarantined suspected cases straight away and did extensive track-trace. South Korea was actually slightly unlucky in that one superspreader didn't comply and infected many people at a religious gathering, but they still managed to get on top of the situation and crush their curve.

Sweden hasn't done nearly as well as most of the SE Asian countries, but one reason the spread has been slower there is because Sweden has the highest number of single-occupant household sin Europe (more than 50% of Swedish households are single-occupant). Since most of the spread takes place at home within families that does give Sweden a natural advantage.

However Sweden is faring much worse than its neighbours:

Thailand, with millions of Chinese tourists left it really late to lockdown and were still having flights in from China until the last minute. Total 54 deaths. Japan, twice the population of the U.K. has 487 deaths and they only have an informal not enforced lockdown.

  • You still haven’t explained why Sweden have done no worse than the UK, Spain, Italy, France, Belgium who have all had very strict lockdowns.
