Elon Musk has long ago established that his insights into the virus and epidemiology are negligible (he predicted in mid-March that by the end of April there would be next to no new cases) -- and also that he has an epic lack of empathy for the non-wealthy.

Bloomberg left the GOP years ago and was only briefly a Republican. The Republican party is pretty strongly dominated by people that don't believe in a role for the federal government in anything other than a military capacity (unless, of course, they need a government subsidy to support an industry that is a major campaign contributor).

That’s why I’m impressed with Starmer. He’s a proper, grown-up, professional in a suit. He’s not a ‘character’, and doesn’t really have any ‘charisma’, and the public probably think he’s ‘boring’. But he takes his job seriously, and that’s a breath of fresh air on these shores.
I know little of him (so far), but the bar is pretty low, let's hope he can vault over it. The difference between the US and the UK is that Boris has a few years in front of him, whereas the election has begun here....
