Assuming all the Korg synths eventually go AU (a big assumption but not unreasonable), which are the best? By which I mean, if you already have most of the usual suspects, which are the most fun to play and unique sounding?
I’m thinking Odyssei might be worth a punt...

ODYSSEi and Mono/Poly for those types of sound. The Mono/Poly also has an excellent random function.

iWAVESTATION for sounding like a Wavestation. You get a ton of sounds and if you can wrap Your mind around the programming interface, it’ll still sound like nothing else.

    iDS-10 for the text synthesizer.

These would be and were my choices too.
iWavestation is endlessly deep, you can spend days creating new sounds based on samples and looped spectra (a bit like the Roland D-50) and they'll still sound different.

iMono/Poly has a stunningly wide analog synth sound palette.

Odyssei sounds quite good but I wouldn't recommend it over Zeeon anymore. Zeeon can do much more and the minor differences that may be audible in a 1:1 shootout will totally get lost in the mix.

Stockholm in Gadget is the mega sleeper IMHO if you have a collection of REX/RX2 loops or if you own ReCycle by coincidence. It's "Dr Octo Rex" from propellerheads Reason.

Can Zeeon to the squealy resonant FM stuff that Odyssei can do?

I like Zeeon, but I feel there is a range of sounds that includes super-fat growling bass and weird squealing and metallic FM that Odyssei does that no other synth on iOS matches. I’ll see if I can put together some examples that capture some of those flavors.

That'd be great, I'll get my hands on Zeeon then to (try to) replicate them.

Don’t get me wrong, Zeeon is excellent but not a replacement imo...and it can certainly make sounds that Odyssei doesn’t. Odyssei is probably my favorite virtual analog. Does Zeeon do FM?

No, only filter FM and oscillator AM.

iMono/Poly for sound palate, iPolySix for sequencer.

I love this app. Try it with GlitchCore.

Got it after this comment. GlitchCore looks interesting too.

Is that Canadian $? It's US7.99  Anyway, is this the predecessor to AddStation which got a phenomenal update the other day i.e AU parameter automation, or are they completely different?

  • edited November 2020

Virsyn has 60% on a lot of their stuff.

Yes! It's an absolute beast. I love making my own sounds with it. Now I can share them too (coming soon). By the way they're about to live stream now on their YT channel demonstrating the new IAP.

+1 It is a real standout if you are looking for a granular synth. It also works as an audio effect to process live audio (you don't need to hit "record" to record a buffer first) so it's really a 2 for 1 and a steal at this price.

It's almost as complicated as the app itself. The short answer is that v21 will be probably be released on 1st January 2021 (that's when they usually release major upgrades) and will be a paid upgrade - not sure if they've decided how much yet. They don't release updates to previous versions. One option is to go with a subscription which works across multiple platforms.

  • Huge sales all virsyn apps 60%off.

Here’s the whole list. Black Friday starts a week early this year.

To be clear, the 2020 version will CONTINUE to function just fine. It just doesn’t receive any updates from the following years release. I have tended to buy it outright (not subscription) every other year. It’s more on par with how desktop software operates now. Free “fixes” and improvements until the next years major release.
