These sales are killing me! Or killing my wallet I should say...

I need an app that disables the App Store during certain hours of the day, specifically in the morning hours, when I’m up drinking my morning coffee and fresh on my meds. This is when I tend to do all of my app “shopping”, and this morning was no different.

I finally caved and purchased Magic Death Eye Stereo Compressor, and the DDMF 6144 EQ. Figured if I’m ever going to buy them, then now is the time! I figure with all of the praise that they get here, they must be good!

Plus I picked up Cykle! Maybe this will hold me over until Atom 2 arrives!

A handful of other small apps, 99 cents here, a buck ninety nine there. They all add up and I’ve already spent over 50 clams this morning alone... jeez, I need help!

@reasOne which MDE did you get and what’s making you undecided? Was definitely going to get one of them today..

i don’t have either of the death eyes, i’m not sure i’ll use it right as i don’t really do my mastering, i want to get it but if it’s going to collect digital dust idk lol

I don’t really do any “mastering” either per se. usually just shape my sounds with the synth’s filters and such, then add whichever effects and EQs and “season to taste” (this is one of my personal philosophies, where sound design is quite similar to cooking.) If it sounds good to my ears, then it’s good enough right?

My thoughts on buying MDES though, is that while my recordings might sound fine to me, and sound fine on whichever playback device and speakers/headphones that I have, it might not sound the same on someone else’s system.

What I like about it, through the demos I’ve heard, is that it does what it does without coloring or changing your sounds (or tones I should say). That’s important to me.

Is it going to turn me into a brilliant composer overnight? I hardly think so. That’s where musical talent is needed, and there’s no “app for that” ... (um, well, there is Piano Motifs lol) But if it at least “glues” my mixes together in a way where some audiophile purists can listen to a track of mine and think “hmm, sounds good!” Then I figure it’s 18 bucks well spent.

Git a question for you mad geniuses.

Can you export the slices from Segments?. I like to make drum kits from loops. Right now I use BM3 as it can slice but also export the slices as individual wavs to later use in a sampler or Drambo. I see it’s got some integration with EG Pulse, which btw is not on sale...

I don’t think you can, but don’t hold me to that, never tried. I do believe you can with EG pulse though, since they work together, you can send slices to make a kit. Eg pulse might be discounted before cyber Monday. I haven’t heard anything but Elliot garage has been discounting 1 app at a time for a couple days this past week. hopefully EG Pulse will get that treatment by cyber Monday. Or Xmas at latest.

    Glitch Core
    Description
GlitchCore is an Audio Unit (AUv3) effect for re-sequencing live audio. It can rearrange audio that it processes. GlitchCore lets you glitch audio by making micro loops and scrubbing your sound. GlitchCore also lets you set loop points, variable loop lengths, and can reverse live audio.

    Grind
    Description
A true powerhouse of audio warfare, Grind puts the "damage" in Audio Damage. From subtle tube-style saturation to full-on mangled wavetable distortion, Grind is a Swiss Army Knife of sound design. This effect consists of three main blocks: wavetable lookup, in to algorithmic saturation/distortion/, and finally to a multi-mode filter with eleven different topologies, from your favorite four-pole lowpass ladder filter, to the 18dB screaming acid, to more subtle toolbox filters like notch. Driving it all is a tempo-synced LFO for rhythmic filtering and grinding.

Degrader is a combined resampler and bit crusher AUv3 plugin. It can be used to simulate the sound of vintage digital gear, as a lofi-effect or as a plain distortion unit. Since all parameters are fully automatable it’s a handy plugin for creating unique and interesting drops, sweeps and other transitions.

    Replicant
    Description
One of the original buffer effects, and still one of the best, Replicant is essentially a randomized looper/buffer reverse, with a randomized stutter effect inside the loop. From a simple delay or panning effect, on up to massive random "instant Autechre" beat mangling, Replicant is a capable plugin well in line with today's electronic music styles. Stuttering buffers and filter drops are easy to program, and the comprehensive randomization features give it a mind of its own, if so desired. If you're looking to add some chance to your production, you've come to the right place!

    **Bit Maestro **
    Description
Bit Maestro is an AUv3 bit crusher that goes beyond regular bit rate reduction, allowing you to affect and manipulate your sound at the individual bit level. Taking inspiration from the legendary ‘OTO Biscuit’ it enables you to selectively mute or invert individual bits in your audio signal. As it does this it creates distortions in your waveform, introducing a wide range of harmonics. Bit Maestro pushes this concept even further, allowing you for the first time to even rearrange the order in which the bits are evaluated, reassigning their value and giving rise to waveform distortions not previously seen in any distortion module.

    Ratshack Reverb

    Description
Ratshack Reverb is a detailed model of that classic of classics, the Realistic Electronic Reverb. Now, you can have the sound of everyone's first analog delay unit, without ever having to change batteries!

As anyone who has owned this unit (which is just about everyone...) knows, it was actually an analog delay, not a reverb at all, and we've done our best to exactly replicate the sound and quirks of the original. We've even modeled the distortion that occurs by running a line signal in to the mic inputs.

Yes, I like it. I especially like that you can listen blind to songs from your iTunes library having their EQ messed with, and work out what's been done, and how they're wrong. It can be a humbling experience.

The only issue I've really had with that app has been the song browser - it draws on the 'Music' app's library, and I have many thousands of tracks stored on my phone, and Hear EQ presents that library as one big long list, alphabetically by song name, with no search function. Scrolling through can be a chore.

Most of my critical listening has been to songs that begin with the letter 'A'.
