at least for now Loopy Pro hosts only AU effects as far as I see.

Look closer 😉 It does instruments too.

A ha! Got it. At times I wish it had a more straight forward Audiobus style lanes :)

By the way, with the sequencer: if the tracks are empty, when the sequence plays back they’ll start recording, and lock in the original length, so you can automate a live performance a la Elise Trouw etc.

    So awesome!!!!

So legit!!! @Michael is it possible to start the loops at unquantized times on the sequencer timeline? It seems like that is the case based on the vid but its hard to tell

    Yep, absolutely.

Also...I know you don't know for sure, but for my own sanity, do you foresee "Really not long now!" to mean still >=1month? Don't need like a release date, just trying to decide how frequently I should be checking this thread over the next few weeks lol.

I’m progressively opening up beta testing already; next wave shortly. Release will probably be a couple months still, but you’ll have a beta in your hands before then.

Wooop, ok then high frequency checking will continue...thanks for the update! Looking forward to giving feedback / making music :)

    MIDI AUs?

    Like I said, yep!

I’m currently trying to run an AU instrument through an AU effect, I’m guessing that’s currently not possible?

  • “Comping” where you can later choose which parts of which takes, or at least what to loop within the longer take?

No, you can do that - just select that AU instrument as the target for the AU effect, in FX settings.

Soon, possibly not at 1.0, but all of the pieces are there ready for the UI.

  • Absolutely killer

  • really looking forward to trying this out!

yeah killing me now ,just like aum ,these can push ios (or say computer)music making to another level ,i‘m feeling it

  • Damn @Michael , this is gonna be big!

  • I wasn't expecting the sequencer. So it's going to be possible to build complete tracks with this? Trying to keep expectations in check but this looks immense!

Yep! It’ll have automation too. Looks like it’s gonna be every bit my original vision, or something close to it. I hope! Haha. Mitigate mitigate

  • Sooo in essence you are building daw? XD standalone mode sounds interesting but I have to admit I’m in love with my AUM workflow ^^

Yeah, kind of, but one that is also a live looper, with the spontaneity and open ended creativity that that can provide. Ideally, best of both worlds.

    This also applies:

Interesting, will this 'built-in' plug-ins also work as AUv3's in other hosts?

While we’re already at it.. just wanna put this here…

    1) maybe allow file import on tracks
    2) put a beat sync button in there
    3) put a key sync button in there
    4) put cue buttons in there

… I’m sure you know what Im getting at ;D

How about you make it crystal clear for all of us who have no idea what you’re getting at?

well I’m sorry, not a native English speaker. In essence I meant:

    1) if it is possible to record audio into a loop, maybe it is not a big step from here to add the option to load full audio files into a track instead.

    2) if it is possible to have multiple tracks running at the same time, maybe it is not a big step from here to add a beat sync option between audio files.

    3) if it is possible to have tracks run at the same time and beat, maybe it is not a big step from here to add a key sync option between tracks.

    4) if all that is possible and there would be the option to set cue points in the track, LoopyPro would not only be a live looper but would also allow for some basic DJ work. There aren‘t so many good and customizable DJ apps on iOS right now. And none that I know of that run as IAA in AUM. Now think about the possibilities to have a DJ setup run parallel to your live looping stuff all on IPad Pro ___

    1) is available feature in current Loopy, I’m fairly sure it’s will be there for new version too. Not sure if it will do everything you’d expect from DJ POV, like auto wrap full tracks etc.
    2) I believe that’s core functionality of any looper.
    3) ‘pitch’ fx is listed above, so it should be doable... again maybe not the exactly the way a DJ would like to have it presented
    4) same again, pretty sure it’s all doable inside the app, but it’s not meant to be a DJ app so the workflow is probably not tuned for that

  • This sequencer thing is a game changer.
Will you be able to send midi CC from the sequencer/timeline?. That way you could trigger Drambo, Hammerhead, DigiStix, Atom2 or whatever to change patterns and build a song with rhythmic changes and parts… it’s probably not meant as a full fledged daw but having pattern changes like this would be an amazing songwriting and live tool.
Will you be able to export individual tracks from the sequencer for final mixing and adding more stuff elsewhere?.

Yep to both. You’ll be able to trigger any action that you can trigger with midi or onscreen widgets by adding the action to the timeline, which includes sending midi.

I would really like to see a list of functionality and applications in its entirety. I get a bit lost trying to comprehend it all. I just tell myself that it’s probably everything I could imagine in an ideal looper along with a good bit more.
It’s funny how just about every suggestion for a feature is met with a ‘yup, it can do that too’ from Michael.

Yeah, this is what I was getting at above when I duplicated my question about MIDI AUs—the sequencer is a late (but welcome!) arrival but it’s not clear from the video how extensible it is with other sequencers and MIDI fx.

Your question about mixing was also something I was contemplating last night. Not just export but a quick rough mix like what AUM accomplishes with the record capability. If it’s easy enough then Michael’s assertion that Loopy Pro could be my host of choice looks pretty good—at least on paper. Time will tell!

  • Like many, I didn’t see the sequencer coming, whoa! Is that the ultimate iPad OS DAW  ?
