  • Is Atom 2 going to have a file browser? It might seem unusual, but I’d love to be able to save folders of generative midi loops, so that I could just open them across different hosts or projects. (For example, Drambo’s preset management is slightly clumsy in this regard, as it needs to be saved as as a rack).

You can use the iOS files infrastructure, Atom has full integration with the Files app. You can even save and load your MIDI loops to/from Dropbox or Google Drive, they'll show up in Atom!

That light theme reminds me of Ableton Live !

Me too. In fact a ‘middle grey’ theme would be nice (disclaimer: this isn’t a feature request)

You can build it yourself if you can type "toolbar-bg-color: gray" in a file :)

In fact (I've mentioned it before here), check out the scripting and styling documentation. A little bit of CSS and you can change almost everything about the look: https://github.com/victorporof/atom

@blueveek you have my early vote for an Apple Design Award! I love how you’ve incorporated workflow innovation with DIY innovation in a product that is pleasing to the eye. Bravo! I remember the humble beginnings of Logic and Fruity Loops. I can’t wait to see this app three years from now. Perhaps standalone... either way, wow!

  • Feels like this is going to be a blast when it ships!

I hope Launchpad Pro 3 will be supported out of the box without having to start scripting the moment Atom 2 is installed :)

Can't help but to wish for an option to replace most daws built-in piano roll editors with Atom 2 for an even tighter host integration. It could be a golden opportunity for Mr. Atom to license the editor and get it 'standardized' on iOS/iPadOS.

  • wow... congrats @blueveek! ...a milestone...

    😝

  • Seeing Atom 2 released makes me want to grace it with one of the new ipad Pros coming out and go all out ipad and sell my MBP.

  • @blueveek and all involved in this project - great job and thanks, really looking forward to seeing this in action and how it will integrate in my setup! <3

  • I hav’nt read all this thread, so, perhaps this has been brought up, but, if not, Victor Porof is an awesome photographer also, not only a damn good coder!

  • Amazing work @blueveek
Credits also to @tk32 and the rest of Beta testers.

My iPad apps GAS is greatly reduced but this is something I’ve been waiting for (even if it’s not MPE -yet-). Instant purchase

Ah of course. Part of my day job is designing and building websites so I’m all over css. I’ll have to dig in.

I checked out the github repo.... man, that’s absolutely brilliant. As far as I can see it is a professionally designed and comprehensive scripting interface. I’m speechless. You’ve truly built a sequencer like no other on iOS, a MIDI hacker’s paradise.

Programming is done in JS. All code runs in a sandbox, asynchronously, without blocking the audio thread.

Short translation for non developers: JavaScript is like the lingua franca, almost every dev knows it. He designed the scripting interface completely event driven and you can hook your script into almost anything that happens in Atom without disturbing Atom’s operation and are able to utilize a lot of Atom’s functionality from your script.

This is not just a sequencer, it is a frickin’ MIDI sequencing programming platform. I’m expecting great things to come and great times for iOS musicians. You actually built the sequencer that a developer would dream of. Atom has the potential to become the center of a whole ecosystem.

I needed to look at your other github repos.... Sorry, but I have to share this: 50+ open source software projects in 6 different programming languages and swift (iOS programming language) is not even among it.

    Just wow.

  • hey, if you think that's amazing @krassmann you should see the work that Blueveek did to ensure Atom2's timing is the best in the business.

    It's like an atomic clock.

    (unlike Ableton link)

    Look great @blueveek !

Just one important think to ask: does it record/play sustain pedal (so I can record my piano) and modulation wheel (for vibrato and expression in my phrases)?

  • edited March 2021

@Synthi No CC is recorded in this version, because there's no way to edit. Huge limitation for sure.

  • @blueveek
Firstly, thank you for the huge effort; most GAS since lockdown and LPmk3 mini already purchased in readiness!
When the "atom splits" what is going to be the best method of sending bug reports and feedback?
This preview thread has already turned quite long.

I'll start a new thread on release. Best place to submit a bug report is at https://audioveek.com/support/, but I'll obviously be around here too.

  • Woah.... its under review!! Stoked for this release a lot of thought and hard work has gone into this and the slides look amazing!

noooo!! then is uselessss for me.....

Why not enable record for sustain pedal an CC1??? don´t need to edit pedals or modulation.... Make sustain pedal at least!

So importing a piano MIDI file with/sustain pedal will not play the pedaling??

  • @blueveek This is truly epic. Atom is a great tool in my arsenal and you're taking it from a catapult to a ballistic missile. What you've shown off so far is insanely impressive.

  • @Synthi The problem with that is that when you change your main sequence (move the notes around for example), the sustain pedal CC messages would "stick" and sustain the wrong thing.

I'm am however debating whether allowing black box recording would be something I'd be comfortable with. If so, then it's a trivial thing to enable (it all technically just works, I've just disabled it for release because again – no editing).

  • what will be the price?

  • @blueveek
Super uninformed question - will I be able to use this with external midi (from hardware synths) with AUM? I'm assuming yes ...
