@Virysn I'm finding that I still get stuck notes quite a lot with this app, changing patches seems to unstick it.

Yeah and after a while I need to reload the app as it sometimes goes all strange and the audio engine/all the presets suddenly sound different. This is when triggering it with midi during a session.

  • Version 1.2.0 is out:

    • Random sound patchgenerator
    • Templates for synthesis blocks and parameters
    • AudioUnit Automation parameter
    • Hold key function for keyboard
  • Compatible with Apple silicon Macs too :)

Was happy to see a Patch random but it crashes my device instantly

    iPhone Pro 12

EDIT: on my iPad Pro 11 inch the dice is spinning but nothing happens.

@VirSyn Thanks for an excellent update for a standout synth!

  • @VirSyn Thanks for the update + added features.. 🙏

    Random Sound Patch Generator 👍
-Seems to be missing in the AU in AUM + apeMatrix..

Templates for synthesis blocks and parameters 👍
-Are there supposed to be presets already in here? Empty at the moment.. 🤷‍♂️

  • Yes missing in Au

  • Addstation immediately crashes in stand alone when I hit the random dice icon on iPhone SE

  • Addstation sounds really distorted over Bluetooth in AUM. It’s fine in standalone. Anyone know why this might be?

Do you mean sending Bluetooth audio from AUM?

What is your Bluetooth receiver? What buffer size and sample rate?

I’m using AirPod pros - buffer size 480 and sample rate locked to 48kHz
I can change buffer size down to 256 but no change

Does this only happen with AddStation?

What does the CPU use look like?

Do all other AU synths work fine in this scenario?

    What hardware and OS?

Everything else sounds fine on the same setup, well what I’ve tried anyway. This is iPhone 11 Pro, iOS 14.2

  • I have found a couple of small issues and a reproducible crash.

    1. After creating sounds using the randomiser, when I visit the sequence section 4 apart sometimes the block display shows 5/4, or sometimes blank/4.

    2. I have created a patch using the randomiser based on the Ambient Cave factory preset. I then create blocks in all the slots on all four channels. I then go to the loop section for each channel and activate all the blocks to include them in the sequence. When I play and hold down notes at this point the sound please for a few seconds and then AddStation crashes.

I emailed @VirSyn a few weeks back but haven’t heard back to say if it’s a known issue, due to be fixed etc, and am wondering if anyone has experienced similar? IPad Pro 2017, 13.6.1

I think you're wrong. AddStation is a unique piece of app and can't be replaced with the ones you mention. The 11,8 second delay for one is not represented elsewhere in VirSyns arsenal, nor the 512 partials per voice. But, what do I know. :) Think you're doing a mistake, if you like their synths - you gonna love this one, is all I'm saying.

Good on you :D I've made well over 100 presets since I bought it (on release, and my first VirSyn Synth) and are amazed what you can do with it. The original preset bank are great but I do like to make my own. :) Will share presets when the export folder gets fixed (they are working on it, right @VirSyn (?) ).

  • Has anyone found a good way to link envelopes easily? It's a pain to try and change the level envelopes for each individual one if I'm trying to make them all the same. Couldn't find anything in the manual.

  • AddStation is just great.
Beside huge sounds à la Aparillo, you can create very realistic acoustic sounds, mostly percussive, such as : marimba, xylophone, vibraphone, tubular, clockwork...
It could easily replace the « mallet » extension pack in Beathawk, for those who knows.

I am still looking for a way to create a convincing harpsichord an Rhodes EP.

Would be interested to know if you succeed in making a convincing harpsichord or EP...

Generally speaking, AddStation allows to create nice « keys » instruments « sounding realistic without having never existed in real life ».

And finally, what I like the most is the polyphony amount which seems endless on my iPhone XS, contrary to many other and more classical synths (only 4-8 voices).

All these qualities make AddStation perfect for keyboardists and surely one of my favorite synths !

I haven't tried really, aren't there any factory preset that come close? Yes it's a very powerful synth. Only downside is the toll it takes on cpu. Want to use many in e.g AUM but that's not possible, at least not with the sound presets I want to use. :) More than two-three and some additional plug-ins and it goes to red...

I sure wish i could coax such sounds out of this synth. Care to share your presets? I just need one or two to get the logic behind your sound design principles.

Try experiment more with the ATTACK and DECAY "drawings" . They can make a huge difference for the final sound. The FREQ one is hardest to get right, often good to wait with that one, and also, try and zoom it in or out. I think the FREQ is the only one that allows that, zooming.

  • Just having some fun, could have added more plugins but wanted to keep it AddStation only (well, some EQ from 6144). Riffer as the motor. Not exactly the instruments you mention Paulo but ... fun..

    @Paulo164 @lukesleepwalker

  • Hey !
Here you will find my preset for a realistic harpsichord.

Also, I have converted a midi file (Scarlatti sonata, by Vladimir Levitsky) in GarageBand to render it both with Beathawk’s baroque harpsichord and my own AddStation preset :

Not bad at all what can be done with AddStation ! 😀

Next I will try an EP.

@Paulo164 I can't figure out how to import this Preset into AddStation? Does anyone have a clue?

I downloaded your zip file and unpacked it with File App. Then I goe into the Keys Folder and click on the Harpsichord5.addstation file and AddStation starts. I also had an offer to
"share" into AddStation but the new Harpsichord5 instrument never appears in any directory.

The application manual doesn't have a search function and I didn't see any advice on importing presets. I can see how to save one but not import it.

Just curious to play it and maybe share some but only if I can figure out this step.

Aha... is there an application folder where I need to unpack the zip? Aha.

That's it. There's an existing Export Folder in "On My iPad/AddStation" and I made an Import folder and moved the downloaded Zip file there and unzipped it. I moved to the folder with the preset and clicked it and this time it imported for me to try.

    Nice work.

This app is a lot deeper than I thought it was... it has a lot in common with AudioLayer and some of the other @Virsyn apps.

Can we import our own "audio blocks" to make new instruments? or just make instruments using the internal "blocks"? Probably the latter but I'd accept any clues.

UPDATE: I poked around in the Block editor and I'm getting an idea what's up.
You "draw" the audio harmonics, frequencies, etc. I need to see how some of the better sounding instruments are built and go from there. It's really easy to make some noisy/nasty stuff without learning a thing tho'.

Yes, I didn’t try to re-import the preset once exported. So I assumed it was easy, but not ! Sorry 😅
Strange that presets are exported in ZIP format since it’s already lightweight...

Regarding AddStation possibilities, yes it’s very deep, albeit hard to tackle. My only regret is that it’s not possible to edit more finely the partials values (magnitude, attack, decay, ...). I would like to be able to import « templates » created from an Excel file for instance.

As for importing your own blocks, you can always copy/paste audio blocks from other presets to get started quicker with a new one.

I have contacted VirSyn about file management and got reply (long ago) that they will fix it. An update came a few months back that fixed Template saving but did the file-management even harder as all of a sudden the 'move' option was gone and nothing else was fixed even though the update claimed so. Contacted them again and got an oops reply and again a promise that it will be fixed. That was three weeks ago so, one can only hope. :D I've added a new post with all my presets: 107 of them. Cheers!

Yeah, I think I've seen that EQ thingy hang on some occasion. Not sure how to recreate it. The dice I never use, not in any app. Nothing wrong with it, it's just not for me because I like to kinda know what's happening, as much as I can anyway. :)
I hope you mentioned the preset import/export issues? The more people reporting the same issue the more likely they fix it.
