@VirSyn I am loving your new app! It sounds incredible. I am, however experiencing a lot of CPU spikes on some patches where the sound either glitches, distorts and in some cases nearly crashes my Ipad Pro 2017. I have IOS 13.5 installed.

I am using the app in AUM but only so I can use my controller keyboard. I have no other apps in the chain.

Is it possible to update the app to correct these issues?

I can’t use it in AUM at all, without crashes and glitches on my Air 2 aside from the most basic settings, and even have problems with some patches in standalone.

Surprised this is so much heavier on CPU than other big synths, such as the Moogs, SugarBytes, IVCS3 etc.

Sorry for being late here, been busy to find out what happened to the AUv3 performance differing so much from standalone performance.

But i have good news to all of you.

Turned out that some performance "tricks" the standalone uses were broken in the AUv3 of the final release. With the new version 1.0.3 ( just uploaded and available maybe tomorrow ) this problems should no longer exist.

    Take my apologies,

    Harry

    Brilliant, thank you!

  • This news coupled with the fact that I haven't bought any new apps in awhile coupled with that I think I may have all the Virsyn synths coupled with the fact that it's Friday means, I think I'll grab this tonight!

  • Yeah, I think I found my first virsynth too... gonna wait for more reviews though :)

  • I still haven't had time to read through the whole manual for this, but I have skimmed and I can't see any way to do something very necessary. It must be there and I've somehow missed it: how to listen to individual blocks when editing them so you can hear what exactly you are doing to that block only? Same goes for individual parts? In a multi-part preset, how to quickly solo one part to hear only what that part is doing without hearing others?

  • @VirSyn Harry, could you enable it so that the in-app manual remembers the page it was closed on please?

  • I say do it before the price goes up. It’s a winner. I have most Virsyn apps, but this one excites me.

Yes.. was thinking the same thing.. mute/solo buttons or something.. and no, you didn’t miss it in the manual, because it’s not there.. seems fairly obvious after you’ve got more than 2 blocks and/or parts.. 🤷‍♂️
The presets +/- (forward/back) button suggestion you had would be great too..
Actually @craftycurate already brought up a few good suggestions earlier in this thread..

    @craftycurate said:
    A few usability suggestions:

    • Ability to play sounds with the patch browser open, to make auditioning sounds faster
    • Maybe a mixer to mix the PARTs overall, rather than adjusting the LEVEL of each block
    • A HOLD feature on the standalone keyboard to allow editing with notes held down
    • Also, to be able to jump straight to the PART settings from the main BLOCKS screen (with the block grid)

Kb-1 or controller with modwheel. All parts set to modwheel. Use modwheel to select part and levels on blocks page to turn down volume.

  • @VirSyn. Other than starting a new file is it possible to save a preset as a favorite?

  • Thanks. Yes - I realize that that is a possible fix, and thought of it before, but it is a really inelegant one!! What a hassle if this is necessary. I feel there must be a way, otherwise how did the Virsyn guys themselves go about creating their patches. Waiting for Virsyn to chime in unless anyone else has already figured this out.

  • Good stuff Roy, and yes - those ideas of CraftyCurate are excellent, I hope Virsyn adopt them

So it shows the block number in the block and parts and goes by first voice.

  • and add a setting for pattern saves for the sequencer and a song mode.

  • Nah. I dunno. Difficult to know where you are. Still makes good sound though.

I realised last night that it is possible to mix the level of each Part as a whole, in the Level Mod settings for the Part, though it’s more taps than I would like, but @royor’s suggestion of a Mute/Solo toggle for each part is an excellent idea too, hopefully on the main Block grid screen.

  • Yes - but still need an easy and fast way to just quickly run through what an individual block itself sounds like I think

  • Picked this up last night. Rocking a 2018 9.7in iPad. The synth is awesome when it's not crashing constantly in AUM.

  • Performance update 1.0.3 just got approved by Apple and should be available right now!
AddStation should perform now much better as AUv3 in AUM and other AudioUnits.
Please try and let me know.

@VirSyn Sorry to report currently can’t open AddStation AU in ApeMatrix not sure if it’s the update that’s caused this or not. IAA is fine.

  • Hi Virsyn. Even though it might not be ideal as I havent thought it through. When creating long pads ( I think )

Where you sequence blocks. Could there be a number counter on block and parts page. If it showed the number of the block going by voice 1. Then you could adjust a block in voice 2 when the number shows.

You could also have 1-4 squares x2. 4 for mutes and 4 to set the number system described above, to any parts timing.

You could then know what block number 3 sound will be in correlation to voice 2.

On sequencer page there is also space for patterns and a song mode. Which could go through sequences per loop, or repeats like Drambo.

Its up to you though as you know the app.

    Thanks.

  • Hi. Seems ok at mo but utlize any ideas.

I think id just need a global on off modwheel setting on main block page.

So when it passes through sequence i can scroll back using modwheel without having to set the usual way.

Sequencer patterns and song mode might still be good.

  • Sorry.

    Just a reverse button.

Is it possible to update the app to correct these issues?

It has been glitch free on my iPad gen 6.

Maybe power cycle your iPad and see if that sets things right.

Is that the same as double tapping the home button and swiping apps off the screen?

No. hold the power button until it says “slide to power off”. Then slide to power off.

Oh ok, I do that everytime I finish a session. I always turn my ipad off. Maybe I should leave it in rest mode?

    What is your buffer setting?

Before the latest update my buffer setting was 256 and 4800hz in AUM playing only 3-4 notes using the resowaves patch hitting cpu spikes of 97%, distortion and lots of glitches.

Now it's down to 64/48000hz playing 8 notes at once using the resowaves patch in the pads section, cpu spikes at 80% but no distortion but some notes not sustaining if I play too fast. I'm not using any effects and only one instance of Addstation. So the latest update is helping alot!

    Aaargh...
Sorry, seems that in 1.0.3 part of beta automation feature was enabled...
and some hosts just can't cope with the about 80000 parameter which can be automated with AddStation (hopefully in near future).

New update to 1.1 is on the way which also will have solo function on part and block!

What iPad did you use for that?

  • edited September 2020

Update really helped my Air 2, can now play it in AUM with Riffer, and aside from a few presets which still glitch, managed to couple it up with Addictive Pro as well.
