I caved in and got the new IAPs and...
...the ‘demo tune’ doesn’t do it justice at all!
The starting patches are very good and full of ‘emotion’ for a lack of a better word!?
Time to ‘fly away’ for a while after I get back from a freezing cold morning walk 😎
Yea I got the demo and I‘ll buy the pack. It’s superb if you are into ambient soundscapes. It really shows what they can get out of the hybrid synth. Great job by the team who made this.
Agreed, luckily the iaps have free 7-day trials.
This pack sounds rich. Reminiscent of the ‘Cinematic’ pack, which I believe is done by the same sound designer https://www.mattpikesounddesign.com
Velocity variations on some sounds, unfortunate there’s velocity on Module’s keys but still not in Gadget.
“Far North” is a good title for this pack. Getting flashbacks to The Shining 🥶
Yepp, and even then only in the 3D keys, the 2D keys have no y-axis velocity![:) :)](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/smile.png)
It's quite odd that the only Gadget that has Y-Axis velocity is Madrid when the keyboard is expanded (up arrow).
Hopefully y-axis velocity finds it's way into more Gadgets at some point in time...
Korg already has a very good on-screen keyboards in the 'supporting' apps (iM1, iMS20, iWaveStation, iPolySix etc).
The only thing they miss is the Y-Axis velocity.
@ioue I can understand the problem with Y-Axis velocity on smaller screens but at least a numerical 'velocity box' that can be swiped up & down to change the default velocity at which new notes are added would be a good start and also make it easier to audition the patches at different velocities when an external keyboard is not available.
It's still early 2021 and I don't have a single clue on what's cooking for the rest the year...![:) :)](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/smile.png)
...ok Gadget VR will drop but it feels more like a PR Gimmick
Even on the small screen of my iPhone SE (2016) Module’s 3D keys at least offer some velocity control, anything better than the static, flat sound of Gadget with its default velocity.
You’d think Module’s 3D keyboard was harder to add velocity (because of the angled keys) than the 2D keyboard.
I’d also expect people to use Module with an external keyboard (or as AUv3 with other app controlling its velocity). But Gadget is standalone and should offer direct velocity control ( yes I have a nanoKeyStudio but most of the time cant be bothered to get it and connect).
Some of KORG’s stuff has great velocity variations (iWavestation, iM1, the Module gadgets) that really bring it to life, but most of that remains unheard when playing Gadget’s keyboard... Odd decision to leave it out.
Do people feel that there should be a way in module to customise the hybrid synth preset interfaces? Or are you happy that someone has preselected the knobs for each preset to be the ones most suitable for it?
I’d love to delve into the innards of this synth. I’ll bet there’s a really complex in house toolset for it though...
I would love to have full access to the synthesis engine but that will likely never happen![:D :D](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/lol.png)
To me it looks like a simple voice/preset player with fancy UI. I would be surprised if there is a hidden modular layer/aspect to it.
There must be the in house toolset Krupa mentioned, otherwise the preset designers couldn't design the sounds. In this sense it is a bit like Roli Noise. The packs were made with equator but Noise users had no access to the Equator engine. On Noise you only had maybe 2 or 3 parameters to play with, at least in Module you have more. Certainly full access would be nice because it is clearly capable of making some great sounds. The way it is currently makes it very beginner friendly, I guess, which is a pro for some and a con for others
Considering that many patches have different parameters (more like macro control) I suspect the engine is pretty deep.
For some knobs the knob selected a 'pattern' and that pattern can likely be edited to but there's no UI for it.
I presume the primary purpose of Module is to provide preset sounds for keyboard players and in that regard it's pretty good![:) :)](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/smile.png)
Maybe...![:) :)](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/smile.png)
I see it as something similar to Ruismaker. Bits of synthesis collected for specific tasks.
The knob twiddler in me would love full control over every little detail of Hybrid/Fairbanks.![:D :D](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/lol.png)
The composer in me (who wants to make songs, not sounds) is better off with some limitations
I don’t expect them to open up the whole engine as that would make these packs less attractive.
I like the concept, with some of the mysterious parameters available - wonder what this knob will do. Don’t have that with an ordinary synth. In that sense it’s similar to something like Alchemy (limited with a few ‘moods’ to choose from).
Definitely. And I kind of enjoy that the knobs for any given preset have been curated to be the most useful ones for that sound. There's still a fair bit of tweakability from 7 well chosen knobs. But of course full access would be great.
In this case less is more for me. The provided knobs are enough to tweak the sound, but it’s not overwhelming. For me that’s OK, I’m an amateur I prefer simple options over perfect tweak ability.
How long is the pack on sale for 4.99 until?
I’m of the opinion that Fairbanks is actually based on what they’ve been doing to create Modwave. Or vice versa.
I think 4.99 is the regular price.
As I mentioned this pack reminds me of The Shining. So had to make this for fun.
Made in Gadget, all sounds from Far North.![B) B)](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/sunglasses.png)
Jack Nicholson was kind enough to supply vocals
I belive that the engine of Fairbanks is pretty deep. I think under the hood it is capable of almost everything, at least VA and FM with some nifty cross modulations. Every preset is a synth on its own, while I think that some presets share the same structure with different values for the parameters. Like 'Soviet Cabin' is one - maybe - makro while the different sounds are variations of that makro. I love the reduced controls. Just enough to get quite drastic changes. The underlying modular synth could be a product on its very own. I like the approach that fairbanks offers very much. Not overwhelming and still absolutely great sounding.
This has its own thread but I want to drop a copy here fro posterity. There are still a few hours left before ther winners will be announced, so get in there if you want a chance to win any IAP for Korg Module or Module Pro

And there goes today's pocket money....
EDIT: Hafta say, some nice stuff here....

Bought it, it sounds really good 😊
Amazing sound this drums. Good job Korg.
Damn, Korg is killing it right now with the Hybrid packs. That pack is fire. And they seem to speed up the releases for that, going to assume that those sell pretty well![:D :D](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/lol.png)
I was complaining to @Gavinski how annoying it was that the kicks, snares, hats and claps were all in different preset packs. So glad that Korg addressed this issue. Snagging this when I get home!
I have no doubts that the new Synth Drum pack is has some nice sounds in it! (Will likely get it later today).
A 'Drumkit Mode' in Module Pro would be a real boon (ie. map multiple presets to key ranges).
In the stand-alone app it's possible to layer at least two sounds.
And well, we're up at Gadget version 4.6.9 now so I suppose when Gadget 4.7 drops we'll get some new features for Gadget.![:D :D](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/lol.png)
That is unless Gadget 5.0 is the next BIG step and in that case it's 31 more 'sound packs' to go
Love this pack (including the artwork with the drumkit transforming into abstract fragments). Had a quick run through the sounds and these are useful synth drums.
The “FX” preset doubles as a nice FM bass (Detroit Techno) when turning the ‘Reverse’ knob down.
Have enjoyed these as mentioned. Only complaint: Not enough!
