  • @RolandGarros this morning I found there was a setting for the exciter to use whatever setting is in either of the other 2 sources. I’m
Away from it right now but there were only a few choices there.

By the way this was my thought too, about the lack of a dedicated attack control. Bit of a shame for softer sounds

  • Downloaded and played with it last night. It’s great but no way it’s worth $26 for me to get the full version. If I didn’t own Drambo, Zenbeats, all of the Brambos drum apps and Digistix I would consider it or If it cost $10 I would probably buy it but it doesn’t really do anything that I can’t already do

Eh? I'm lookin' at it right now - v1.0.1. Do you have a different version? Or, are you in the AU version. It makes sense that it would not be there in the AU version. The host takes care of the midi routing for AU plugins.

@wim I had a two DrumComputer AU session in AUM, where one DC sequencer from a midi lane send midi to the other DC in an audio lane that has an empty sequencer.
The midi routing is just from one instance to the other, nothing using Virtual Midi or AUM destination.

This session still works after the v1.0.1 update, as far as i have tested. A streambyter (as midi monitor) listening to the output of the midi track DC also shows the notes beeing triggered. I‘m on IOS 13.6

Or did i misunderstood the problem you noticed with the update ?

The Finalizer section has some transient shaping:

Here we have a dynamics section with Transient Shaper, Compressor and Maximizer, plus a Warmth circuit with 3 Distortion modes.

Nice. Woulda taken me quite some time to stumble across that one. I guess it's time to RTF(long)M.

    This is helpful:

  • I say it is incredible. The sounds I can create are vast for each drum, and by tweaking a knob or two I can get that sound to be a in a completely different realm. As far as the comments saying it sounds flat and such, I respectfully disagree. The kicks I'm getting are fantastically thick and meaty, and I get to tweak and layer stuff easily. I have Beatmaker 3 and find it tedious, and I want to love Drambo and find it about as fun as IKEA furniture building. Patterning comes close, because the sequencing is so fun, but building kits of your own isn't. Drum Computer is a 10 out of 10 for me. Pure sugar.

But hey, that's just my take.

Still trying to understand the nuts and bolts of midi out with DC.

For example, MIDI OUT from DC to Patterning. Or really just standalone DC to any standalone or AUV3 app in AUM.

Any help would be appreciated immeasurably. I want to get going with this thing!

For standalone DC to AUv3's in AUM: just select 'AUM Destination', not 'Drum Computer' as the input to the AU. You might need to do some note remapping depending on the plugin that you want to work with. Check the Mapping page for how to change the notes assigned to pads.

If you're not getting any midi, then go to settings > advanced > midi > destinations, and make sure AUM is on.

Patterning is similar. Make sure you select 'Patterning 2', not 'Drum Computer' as the midi input. You can choose whether to midi-learn the pads in patterning, or to map them in DC.

Well, that explains everything. Previous to today’s update the only settings in Advanced was iCloud. Now we have the proper midi in and out options.

    Thanks, wim.

The version in the app says 1.0.0 after the update and midi destinations has disappeared.. :o

@Vibes71 Mine still shows a network destination.

The background image with the robot also shows version number 1.0.0, but the main dialog of advanced settings shows the updated v1.0.1

You misunderstood a couple of of things. :D

    • Everything I mentioned was about routing from the Standalone, not the AU, which was why the question was about.
    • I didn't notice a problem. In fact I don't see the problem the the question was about.
    • I was clarifying that Midi settings are understandably not in the AU version because they're not needed.

Probably I wasn't being clear because you don't usually misunderstand anything. B)

There's something wrong with your installation then. The latest is 1.0.1.

Midi destinations only show up if the app is running. Try opening AUM and see if it shows up there. If you're working with some other app, be sure it's running and that it has background audio running.

Removed the app, rebooted, reinstalled, same thing. No midi destinations.

But, do you have any app with a midi-in port running at the same time? Ports aren't going to show up unless an app is running and advertising its presence. They're going to be enabled by default, so there's really no need to go there unless just for verification or to turn off some app that's receiving MIDI that you don't want to.

Remember: in the app you're trying to connect, choose the name of that app's input port, not 'Drum Computer'.

  • i don’t understand the claims that dc isn’t versatile, this is imo the most versatile drum machine i’ve ever had my hands on, i think one of the reasons it may not sound good for some is the finalizer settings. the relaxed knob can minimize the kick of your kicks , try turning that off or down and see if it brings in more punch 🤜

my ipad is connected to an Alesis IODock (listed as "Dock") which provides the midi in and out for the ipad, exactly as before the update. Also no "network session 1" destination, only as source...

I think it's just that the thing is so versatile that it takes way more than a shallow dive to even comprehend all that it does. There's a big learning curve here. I agree with you though - I believe just about any sound can be made with this.

So? I don't know what that has to do with this. Did you try opening an app that has a midi in port to see if it shows up like I suggested?

the midi in and out port of the IODock works exactly the same as an in and out port of an app...no ports are showing by any app.

OK, if you're not going to listen to or follow any suggestions I give, we've both got better things to do. ✌🏼😎

    Anyone else ?

Does anyone think Drambo will ever have more than 8 tracks? I guess one track for DC audio in and 7 for other sounds is cool enough.

Drambo can already have more than 8 tracks. Have you noticed on Main that a “track” is just like any other module? Just keep adding.

  • Page 44 of the manual has an entry for CC Map, which lets you save your control settings. However, my actual settings page doesn’t have that. Anyone else missing it? Am I overlooking something?

I don't see any load or save either. Maybe it's a leftover in the manual from the desktop version?

Man. That’d be lame. I’m setting up MIDI templates for this mamajama and I’d love to just have those mappings whenever I start something new. Guess I’ll need to make my own INIT patch in DC itself.

  • What’s the situation for those of you with the newer iPads? Drum Computer runs on an Air2 and you can have a few others on the go - but not to many.

    What is the DSP showing?
Can you run Drum Computer alongside say Gadget and Groovebox all with effects in their channels and maybe even more? Or is that too much?
    Can you give some idea?
    Thanks

@Vibes71 I also don't see MIDI DESTINATIONS in standalone after upgrade to v1.0.1

    I reported to SB support:

The 1.0.1 version is missing DESTINATIONS in advanced MIDI settings.
I see a DrumComputer output port in some other apps, but DrumComputer crashes if I play it when this port is connected. After crashing and restarting, the port still appears in other apps but no MIDI events are transmitted.

That is strange. I see them and I'm on 1.0.1. Are you sure that you have apps running in the background? If you have AUM running, you should see it. If not, then you will not see it. (see my screenshots from an earlier post)

What version iOS? I'm on 13.7. Maybe it's iOS 14 related.

Thanks for the confirmation and the report to SB 🙂. We’ll probably have another DC update soon...

I'm running iPadOS 14.2. MIDI DESTINATIONS appears (to me) in Egoist and Thesys.
