  • Creating an iOS music app today and not making it AUv3 is so short sighted. It’s like making a desktop plugin that isn’t VST compatible. Why limit your sales straight out the gate? And potentially it will be a great deal of work to add AUv3 down the road.

Having said that, Andrew Huang is a good name to be bringing an app to iOS. I hope it’s a beauty.

  • Yeah man, so dissapointed it is not IAA never mind AU. Shows how little awareness there is out there among the desktop, hardware and modular crowd about how iOS music making works. Of course, we've all been there. When I started with iOS my mind boggled that it was even necessary to think about how there might be such a thing as apps that couldn't play with other apps. It just seems like the kind of thing that couldn't happen on an Apple device 😂. People are so used to everything Apple working smoothly that they don't even stop to think about connectivity.

Imagine someone making an app for desktop music with no connectivity! But certainly it will bring a lot of people to iOS. It's a lost opportunity to bring them in in an informed way though. I'll certainly do a vid on it though, and will mention in that something about how our ecosystem works.

Until it materializes, let's dig out what we have on the iPhone:
Hypertron, Koala, Nanostudio 2, Drambo, Gadget, Triqtraq, maybe iMPC Pro 2?

Trying to recall other samplers and similar stuff:
Samplebot, Strom, Realbeat, Werkbench, ProteinDK, Sir Sampleton, Sa mpletoy, Triggler

Oh, and not to forget: BeatHawk!

    Wow
Feel bad for letting this one out.
Gonna add another one... I don't have it, so maybe it's just a sample player like the hardware version...
    Vesuvius Sampler

You guys are sleeping on SoundWeaver.
    😴

    Surely you meant Samplr!

@gusgranite Some apps mind are little islands on their on that I can still get lost in without connectivity. Drambo is a classic case of using standalone if you were to take away AU etc.

Now it’s getting AU hosting mores the better.

But agree it is short sighted not to make as AU if it’s a sampler app.

Time stretching is the one coming soonest. Might be an IAP, I'm not sure. Grid/piano roll sequence editing is on the road map too.

Do you know if AUv3 is on the roadmap? :)

I think his main audience is a bigger desktop market which have casual use of iOS/mobile so it makes sense he is marketing to them first. :)

  • Does standalone mean it won’t slot into Audiobus, AUM etc?
    Does it have Link?

  • Wonder if it supports input selection audio-interfaces with multiple inputs?
If it does it better also support input monitoring.

Then again it feels like this app is more focused on 'on the go idea capture' rather than being a sampling workstation...

  • I hope this is not a grab all your sounds in here and mash them up...... but then hey if you really want it to sound great you need to dump to Ableton on your Mac and add in “real” items to make it sound great.

I am not knocking the guy..... he is having a great time making money doing is thing. But I am interested to see how this works for folks if its just IAA? I dont have a use for a new phone app and that seems its primary use?

But hey if it could bring my daughters to the light side instead of playing Among US all day then we have a winner. 😂😂

  • Dude has over 2 million subscribers.
I doubt he gave our concerns any of his own.
His app could totally suck, but it would still probably sell gobs.

😂 it me (though "daughter and sons" rather than daughters)

It's not AU, but it's not IAA either. Zero connectivity. Standalone only!

Uhhhhhhhhh. Ok so I’m confused. But hey so when my daughters come to me and go hey dad I sampled some phat beats how do I get them into a song.... I will go well there is this lad named Gavinski.. go watch his videos. 😂

I guess it will at least have some kind of export function...

He's an Ableton user so it might have Link at least

  • Not an AU as initial release? Hmm 🤔 this is not cool. No connectivity and its the best!? Wow

It's just typical marketing lingo with no real anchor points or references in the real world.
...and sign of a big ego that is very hard to take seriously :D

Time will tell what this turns out to be. If it's $1 and all the followers buy it it's plenty of cash to retire for a while...

I see the point. So one worth skipping probably

  • Developed by the guys behind elastic drums which is positive

  • I mean, we could just wait until it’s out and the full details are known to evaluate it based on its merits rather than making off-the-cuff reactionary judgments.

  • The developer from elastic drums was part of flip just read it on his Tweet

Where’s the fun in that? Knee-jerk outrage and condemnation gets the blood pumping.

Get out of here with your reason and common sense! Don’t you know where you are?

  • Will be interesting to see what this can do that you can't do in GarageBand, available for free on almost every IOS device nowadays. It is really one of the most powerful music making tools out there including a really good sampler.

  • Sorry! I’m sharpening my pitchfork and have the torch soaking in pitch now. Lock him up!

That sounds way to sensible for the ABF Lord Of the Flies Faction.

    Bleed Piggy, bleed.

  • I'll likely end up getting it anyway :)
