I’ll be waiting it out on this one to get the general consensus after it drops.
I don't think people who already use iOS apps for making music are the market for this one. I guess we'll see, but it's not something I'm really interested in.
I don’t care how good it is, no AU no buy 🤷🏻♂️
Same story with SKIID - bought it the day he updated for AUv3.
I’ve watched a few of his vids and he does know his stuff. I would hope that this knowledge got translated into the app’s design. Hoping this brings something new to the table and isn’t fluffy.
The Elastic Drums developer being involved makes me much more optimistic about this, I have to say.
Agree, but ED hasn't gone AUv3 either!
Optimistic about it never ever going to be AUv3?
(sorry Oliver, love ya)
This totally works for me not being AU. These days I am way more into a sweet walled garden all in one sample fodder maker. Seeing that the Elastic Drums dev was involved very much bumps my interest.
For me it all just hinges on the file management import/export situation being super smooth.
Yes, he is top-notch (much admired as both dev and designer by a few devs who have written first class apps)
Yah the look seems pretty functional to me. Fluffy would be a colorful array of IAP thumbnails that look like compilation album covers. Seeing those consistent icons on the left and right vertical strips looks like navigation may be super sweet and was a priority. I'll probably jump the second it pops heh.
I'm pretty sure it will be great if the Elastic Drums dev is involved. I definitely wouldn't hold my breath for an AU update. I think it's just gonna be one of those things where, if you like its workflow, you'll just have to view it as a place for importing, making your stuff, and exporting.
Yah I imagine the majority of the market doesn't really care about AU/iPad/iOS as Daw type scenarios. I think many take a swing at it though but few stay.
I definitely agree with not worrying about it being AU. Sure it’d be a plus but it definitely seems like one of those apps that you mostly work inside of it.
I’m definitely buying it as soon as it’s released. Seems right up my alley for jamming and making loops to export into another app.
Yes, this is more aimed at the iphone market mainly
Man I really feel bad for some of you. This app looks fun as hell. Yeah it could be better and would be more useful in the long run if there was some connectivity. But why does everything have to have everything? Why can’t an app just serve a specific purpose and be enjoyable in and of itself?
I get this. Valid point.
I consider myself humbled by the array of apps I have to play with and make music with. Some are fun. Some I consider better than the best hardware.
Sometimes an app just lacks connectivity and without it it just doesn't get used, because it doesn't play well with others. It sucked that my TR 808 had Din Sync and not MIDI. No perfect tempo match UNTIL you found out there was a Din to MIDI adapter, and they were super expensive! It sucked that some of the toys I wanted to add to my setup had no audio out... Just a speaker. It sucked a lot when you couldn't shutoff program change, or this or that, and the point I'm making is we have come a long way and the Volca Sample should have audio in! See? That is a forehead slapper.
So yes, we are a demanding crew of specialists who love ios music instruments. Complete dorks. But I totally think the world of ios needs dorks like us to point out that integration of major features is what will make an app a success or a failure live.
I considered yesterday that music apps are my new "albums," and I buy an app with the same glee that I bought a tape or record or CD with when I was young.
So here's to hoping this app isn't on 8-track only.
Having connectivity is not 'being everything'. If this app was released for desktop with no connectivity ppl would be hella pissed off.
But I assume not at the price it is coming out at on iOS.
As long as it has a way to export stuff using standard iOS features (ie. Open In... / Share Sheet) I'll be ok with it...
...that's the way I use Elastic Drums already (ie. export a patterns as stems).

Got a chuckle out of this! The world does need purists, experts and aficionados. Casual users gain more than they will ever realise (because they’re casual users!)
And for Mac users, there's always IDAM - which kinda counts as connectivity, if you have a Mac to connect your iOS device to
I suspect, as per a previous comment (I think) that's Mr. Huang's 80% use case: get something going on your iPhone or iPad, then bump it over to the Mac to flesh it out.
I get where @DukeWonder is coming from, as I think all humans have a proclivity to think in self-centered ways. But it's an Internet forum where all the people with all the self-centered ways are ENCOURAGED to spout off about their self-centered needs. I mean, why is it any less valid for someone who works in an AUv3 workflow to say "sorry, not for me" than someone who says "yep, I'm fine with limits given the price point and the fact that I work mostly on my PC"? Nobody has to feel bad for anyone who is making a buying decision based on their own needs.
For sure. @moodscaper this is definitely being marketed at the casual user or the desktop crowd.
Agree with this too.
What sampler features are currently unavailable on iOS?
Meh, looks like I can achieve more with other apps + they have connectivity
I think most of the generally/typically desired features have been hit on in various ways in multiple places but it is just a question of what umbrella/workflow they live under at any given moment. Things being spread out across multiple apps is not appealing (to me and the people that this app would appeal to).
Yeah but isn't that the case with any app on iOS when you're making music? I can stay in Ableton and never need a thing from outside of it but that's not the same on my iPad.
That said, I may well buy this. It can keep my 400 other music apps company.
So that’s the thing. I don’t think anyone has any more right than anyone else to express preferences. But this crowd is pretty quick to seem something worthless and demonize the developers because it doesn’t meet their specific needs. I see it all the time.
Sometimes an app isn’t for you and that’s fine. Doesn’t by any means make it okay to trash it. That’s childish and sad.
Wonder if it does poly rhythms and poly meters

Maybe this will fill my Samplr for iPhone void.
I suppose I will find out soon enough.
