I see actually this approach is very similar to what Roli did with Noise - guest producer curated synth sound packs. Andrew and co are going to make a lot of money from this for sure 😜

So a bit like Blocs Wave except even less connectivity? Sign me up.

  • Not so excited about this release lately 😂😂😂

  • In this video from 10:00 he demonstrates Flip:

Hey, it does remind me a lot about BeatHawk!
Seems more powerful in the FX section but ... my sound packs are locked into BeatHawk... 😳

I wonder if it will have time-stretching and re-pitching without changing speed.

    Good question.

    and to avoid endless scrolling:

Or just automatically jump to where the notes are...

  • I really do hope it supports proper input selection when using a multi-channel USB-Interface...

If the soundspacks are even in UVI territory it’d be a must buy.

We'll find out. No matter what, it looks like it's going to be a fast app to use.

  • Yeah seems a very good iPhone app and the automation looks nice, can’t see me using this on iPad though, but if I start travelling again might be one for the list :)

  • Hope it has destructive trim for the recorded samples...

Bu yeah, it's most likely going to be quite a lot of fun and that is important :)

  • Why destructive rather than non-destructive?

To save space when saving the project...
The limit seems to be 60 seconds per sample so if you only need a few seconds of that recording it's well 'waste of space'.

This is a major pita in for example GarageBand where the whole audio-track is saved when saving a sampler instrument...
(ie. if you use a 2 second snippet of a 3 minute file the whole 3 minutes is saved).

Also if the automation of the start point is based on the start of the sample instead of 'start of the trimmed area' things will get wonky.

And well, some of us like to keep things neat and tidy :)

Time will tell how it works...

Hope it also has loop options for the sample playback as that would be 'glitch heaven' when automated!

    Cheers!

    A bit like this? :D

Why is 80s synth wave always in wireframe neon? The 80s looked nothing like that where I grew up! :-/

Also am I being mean for wishing a cuckoo would fly into cuckoo's window and steal his mirror? It's not like he'll miss it for shaving...

  • 😂😂😂 mean but hilarious

@klownshed At times, when computer graphics were used in music videos, they looked very much like that in fact.

  • Ok, I guess this could be 4.99 and then a huge truckload of iAPs regularly added. Two times a year sale of iAPs and maybe... one day... an AUv3 Update?!?

I am aiming for the the 4.99 not that’s not worth more but for aiming initial purchases of his 2 million followers and jumpin right to the #1 in AppStore tomorrow

Yeah. I actually deleted a comment I'd added about Tron ;-)

My memories of the 80s are mainly in monochrome  More "Ghost Town" than "Rio"

  • Seems a cool app, not something I currently need but I hope it introduces Andrew's huge audience to the iOS music ecosystem :)

  • Other 'things' that this app should get right is the loop export, ie. bake in the reverb/effect tails for seamless loops making it easier to 're-flipping' the samples with the app and naturally Link support.

I'll be giving it a spin for sure and somehow I feel it'll give Koala some healthy competition!

One thing that caught my attention is that the automation lanes can have their own independent lengths which is a guarantee for some weird sh*t when it comes to timing :D

    Tomorrow we'll know more!

I think this sort of thing tends to knacker up the transfer of audio from Blocs Wave to Launchpad. If you flatten (trim) the selected areas first it’s always much less painful and far less likely to crash.

I’ve watched a few of his vids and he does know his stuff. I would hope that this knowledge got translated into the app’s design. Hoping this brings something new to the table and isn’t fluffy.

Fluffy would be a colorful array of IAP thumbnails that look like compilation album covers.

    A bit like this? :D

Ya, I saw that flash by one of the videos. Although that feels more informative than fluffy.

    This is fluffier...

Was ‘synthwave’ an actual term in the 80s? I always took it to be a modern term that fetishized a small 80s visual trope.

Classic pitch shifting means changing pitch without changing playback speed. Is that what you said?

  • A duck walks into a bar and says to the barman "Got any bread?"

"They don't let ducks in bars.", "How did it open the door?", "Ducks can't talk!" 😂

It changes playback speed, like pitch in a DJ mixer

Correct. There was New Wave but nobody knew what that actually encompassed.
